What is the reason for Pakistan having limited keeper-batter resources?

Pakistan does have a fast bowling factory and a line up of spinners etc. They seem to have a lot of batting options too in backups but compared to most big teams they seem to have a lack of keeper-bats.

India
Pant
DK
Kishen
KS Bharat (test specialist)
KL Rahul (part time)
Samson

England
Butler
Bairstow
Foakes (test specialist)
Phil Salt (part time)

Australia and Nzl too seem to have a lot of batsman who can keep.

It’s surprising that in Pakistan there is only Rizwan.

Sarfaraz is it safe to day is done now?

Please don’t say Azam Khan lol. Looking through the squad there is a backup keeper Md.Haris. Is he any good? Never seen him play.

Why does Pakistan team that has so many resources- (are they good or bad is another debate) have a lack or keeper- bats especially in the T20 era?

Pakistan is possibly in its best era of overall keeper options and upcoming options as historically we have had mediocre keeper/batsman but then everyone had a decade or two ago. Not saying all the below options are Buttler or so but, then young players can become anything.

Main
Rizwan

Backups
Mohammad Haris (Possibly one of the most gifted young keeper batsman we have had, still young and learning though)
Haseebullah Khan (Left handed opening batsman) (Youngster from last U19 WC squad impressed everyone in the cricket circuit of Pakistan in both List A and T20s, will be a pick to look forward to in PSL)
Sarfaraz Ahmed (Still a safe option while others are being developed but, would like Haris or Haseeb to travel as he can learn more)
Rohail Nazir (Struggling with career direction and form but is an option)
Azam Khan (Have to take his name irrespective of questions upon his fitness, decent keeper and can hit it around)

Best era? So better than Moin-Rashid era?

Anyway good to see players in domestics but the point still stands, Ind, Aus, Eng, Nzl already have multiple wk-bats in their squads and even playing together. Don’t see it that way in Pakistan.

Obviously Rizwan is a permanent fixture but I believe I have seen him play all 3 formats against all sides unlike other teams that have enough rotation but as you say if the future has a lot of new talents, will keep an eye out.

Did Md.Haris play any u-19? Don’t recall. I believe Rohail was in one of the u-19 teams before.

Absolutely better than Moin, Rashid era. Moin and Rashid were outstanding keepers (Especially Rashid) but, in terms of batting they were nothing extraordinary and their stats and the numbers they were given batting at manifests that.

Yes good to have more wicket keepers making the squad as batsmen but, not something important for the combination. You need one quality keeper in the XI and if anyone makes as a batsman alone then good luxury to have.

Mohammad Haris averaged 65 with SR of 123 in the U19 WC 2020. He has already entered Pak side and is rated really highly. You can watch his batting in PSL 2022 highlights or other videos. One of the most dynamic young batsman in Pakistan who isnt afraid of playing his shots. Yes sometimes like other young players can try too many things too early but, will obviously learn.

Haris and Haseebullah are two to keep an eye out for future, impressive with the gloves as well as with the bat. Azam if can work on his fitness can be good one in the mix as he has the basics of the keeper and obviously can hit the ball miles.

Rohail was decent but, is struggling at domestic level now a days, still young so can turn it around but pretty far in the pecking order now.

PCB has no check and balance over team selections for domestics. 40-year-olds like Sohail Khan are a regular feature. Wicketkeepers who average in the 20s after several seasons are selected again and again. People need to understand that humanitarianism and loyalty are noble characteristics that come at the cost of progress.

Pakistan have a generic lack of talent:

No middle order batsmen
No consistent big hitters
No spinners
No real ground breaking fast bowlers
No genuine pace all rounders

WK-batsmen is quite low in our worries right now.

Because we like a bit of halwa keeping is a thankless Job don't you remember for how long we persisted with jellyfinger Kamran due to lack of options
Zulqurnain Salman Adnan one of them was psycho the other can't hold a bat last one was from Pre-Darwin era :sehwag

No problem in this regard. As wicket keeper batters go, Rizwan is to Pakistan what Dhoni was to India. As long as he's there, no other wicket keeper batter will be preferred. It's not a lack of talent though as there are many in the ranks but none yet who can overtake Rizwan

Rizwan is Pakistan's best ever keeper-batsman in its history.

That should tell you everything about Pakistan's historical problems with finding quality keeper-batsmen.

Maybe direct the coaches at grass root levels to specifically focus on finding and nurturing keeper batsmen.

I think Haseebullah will be challenging Rizwan for the wicket keeper batesman position in tests.

Haseebullah should be picked in the test squad as a back up keeper

Usman khan has been selected as keeper. Mind you Usman cant bat and is even terrible as a keeper, but because he kept a few games as a keeper, pakistan will try him as a keeper at international level.

This so means, that any tom, dick and harry ends up performing in the psl and is a keeper, will get a straight ticket to the world t20.

Because they know their chances are close to 0 if Babar and Rizwan occupy 2 out of 11 spots in the T20i side.

They did find a good keeper+batter in Harris for this format. Its the freshy mindset fans+journalists who have been hounding him out because they want the freshy mindset keeper+batter in Rizwan.

Why was Muhammed harris dropped when this tulla usman even made to the team makes no sense with the selection pakistan do.

The only Keeper+batter who Rizwan is better than in T20s for Pakistan is Ghazi Gouri. Maybe Haseebullah. Thats it.

The chances are -500 with Usman Khan in the side.

One of the absolute worst players to ever play for Pakistan.

We wont know until we have seen what he can do in Asia. He was initially picked for his exploits in T20 cricket on home decks+UAE. So now its fair to give him a proper run in this format considering Pakistan have no T20s in SENA going into the world cup.

Pakistan don't have any quality WK batsman than rizwan.

Haris, Usman khan are the biggest tullebaaz fraud .

:kp

I would pick Haris above this tail-ender any day.

We don’t have any half decent WK batter in our domestic and that’s extremely sad to see.

Usman is a better player of spin compared to Harris.

So you want good players of spin? You removed Harris, now what?

Usman is a tail-ender and barely looks like an international cricketer.

Haris has severe temperament issues but he doesn’t look like he is tap dancing at the crease.

Also Haris is a hit out or get out kind of batsman, but Usman has shown in the limited opportunities he has got that he will play for his runs and shut down the scoring rate.

Haris is showing some maturity in his batting over the longer format of the game in the last couple of QEA games. Lets hope this is the kick up the backside he needed to kick on and realise his potential.
