Imad has been the stand-out performer in the ODI series so far for Pakistan. His performances have raised questions about which number he should bat in Pakistan's struggling ODI batting line-up.

Which position do you think Imad should bat in ODIs?

Lower middle order is optimal for him. For what it's worth, he's shown he can be very handy with the ball and bat. Nawaz, him, and Sharjeel are the only certainties going forward imo

Five or six. Although for the purpose of this series, would be nice to see him open

6ish is fine, it looks like it suits him with the field spread and going hard at the end overs so why make him change whats working by getting him up the order?

If a wicket falls after 35th over, new batsman should be Imad, be it 2 down or 3 or 4 down.

Try and Assess him as a finisher when batting first and may rarely be promoted to 3 when chasing.

Somehow I continue to believe that his bowling will win matches more than his batting.

#6, Yamin at 7

Sharjeel
Azhar
Umar Akmal
Babar
Sarfraz
Imad
Yamin
Ammad Butt (depends how he plays)
Amir
Hasan Ali
Asghar

2 explosive batsman in he top 3 and an anchor. Hopefully one of them fire and you get to 100-2 in 16-17 overs. Then you accumulate with Babar, Sarfraz, and Azhar. After over 40 you hit big with Imad, Yamin, Ammad, and Amir.

When I said he should bat higher up a year ago people were having a laugh and a gaff. Here we are now. :najam

He should open from time to time or come at 3 ala Afridi and Razzaq as that has worked really well for us in the past in the early 2000s esp when we were still a decent ODI side.

Thing is he can play proper shots, and if he gets set than he'll be deadly. If anything, he is more deadly at 5 or sometimes higher if chasing something big as he finds it more comforting to play a few balls before unleashing his inner Razzaq compared to coming at 7 or 8 and slogging from ball 1.

Right now there are only a handful of batsmen in the country being able to match the scoring rate of guys liek Hales, Finch, Warner, Rohit, Guptill, QdK, etc. Only the scoring rate though, ability wise they may be inferior.

And they are:

Sharjeel, Imad, Maqsood, Umar, Kami, Khurram, Latif, Ahsan, Rizwan (raw), and few others. Before people get their panties in a twist from some of these names, keep in mind I'm only talking about strike rate here, the ability to score according to modern requirements. So please don't feel like I'm dwarfing beloved Babar, Sarfraz or whoever.

We have a lack of options and have to use what we have. Out of the list Sharjeel and Umar is a must. Imad has secured his place too. I'd consider Maqsood again if he has a good season, and keep an eye on Ahsan. Belieb it or not, Khurram has done a lot to merit an ODI place despite what people think. Has been scoring consistently at high SR, yes he failed in Bangla, but who didn't?

Give him a flat track like the one where England delivered a rectal examination on our bowlers, and he'll pull off a Sharjeel like innings but more on the off-side.

Imad should stay bat at 6, at least for next 25-30 ODIs. If he continues to improve and bat like he has so far in ODI series vs England, then he should get promotions to maybe number 5. Sample size is too small to say that he can be successful number 5 and good ODI bowler. If he gets promoted now, and things don't work out for him because of more responsibility that will crush his confidence. Keep him at 6, let him get his feet wet at international level, and after 35-40 ODIs if he deserves promotions based on performance then he will get it.

7 is best for him at the moment as the allrounder. He will have the chance to play freely and gets a quick 40 odd.

Since Sarfraz is batting at 5, We do need a batsman at number 6. Looks like Akmal will come into that slot since Mickey mentioned him and also the need to have six hitters.

6 or 7, Yamin either above or below him. The two of them can finish off the innings well which is something we REALLY need, also they are good bowling options, who together can put in 10 overs.

Would be good addition to the lower order but who knows when Yamin will get a go again...

He should bat at number 4 or 5 . That would improve his batting.

He can be made into a Batting all rounder. He is not a genuine wicket taker.

He should bat 6 in odis and 5 in t20s.

We have many bowling all rounders. Amir Hasan Ammad Nawaz.. Besides yamin cant think of many that are hard hitting batting all rounders.

Imad should be groomed for no 6 role, lower order hitter and to bowl a bit, but batting is priority.

Six is the position we need him to fill. He seems to have the calmness to provide a good finish at the end and we really need a batsman like that. Besides it's a high enough position for him to get a sighter in.

Imad Imad Imad - the crowd goes crazy!

He is the type of player who will can bat anywhere in the middle to later order

I am very interested in seeing him and Mohammad Amir bat together in the middle overs.

Imad should bat number 6, this should be the team till champions trophy:

1. Sharjeel Khan
2. Nasir Jamshed
3. Babar Azam
4. Sarfaraz Ahmed
5. Umar Akmal
6. Imad Wasim
7. Amer Yamin
8. Zafar Gohar
9. Amir
10. Sohail Khan
11. Hassan Ali

12. Rizwan
13. Usama mir
14. Ehsan Adil
15. Umar Gul

I think he will have lots of dot balls if he bats higher than 7 as he isn't the most fluent. But yea Imad is a smart guy allowing him to do well in crunch situations as well unlike an Umar Akmal for example.

1.S khan
2.S maqsood(if improved)
3.B azam
4.U akmal
5.S ahmed(captain)
6.I wasim
7.k akmal(wk)
8.A butt
9.M amir
10.Z gohar
11.H ali

12.N jamshed(if improved)
13.S shakeel
14.M nawaz
15.Z haq

This shud be 11 at any case.Even no.10 can hit and no.11 can hold t bat.

So ask them to go nd play fearsles cricketand score atleas 300

Then We can hope of defending it wit amir, Gohar, imad and hassan..

Seems like an impact player to me, and you want your impact players making those impacts, at the most important junctures of an ODI - either the start or the end!

So for me its either 3, or 6,7 - don't want him in the middle order at all!

we really did take for granted the days where we had guys like Razzaq who could play that floating role, bat at 3 or down the order and be equally effective..

For CT 17..Coz I dont see any changes at least till end of Aus tour

1.Sharjeel
2.Fakhar/Jamshed
3.Babar
4.Umar
5.Sarfraz
6.Maqsood
7.Imad
8.Nawaz(has to improve his bowling til then)
8.Amad
9.Amir
11.Sadaf

I do love his enthusiasm- cpl work has given him an extra edge

last chance for malik today, hoping he will fail miserably again...Immad is finishing well, learning from his mistake in the 1st ODI which is good to see..Could be the finisher they are finding

Time for Imad to move up the batting order?

Imad Wasim has been so good with the bat this series he doesn't have an average because England couldn't get him out during the 4 innings he played in, that too with a SR of 102.

Let's not forget Imad Wasim is not a mug or a bits and pieces cricketer, he can genuinely bat as evident by his average of 42 in FC cricket.

Seems like a very intelligent and composed cricketer, as a batsman and as a bowler where he was also prolific with an economy of 4.50 in the series.

I feel with his batting qualities Pakistan will get more out of him if he's moved up to number 5 or 6. This gives more opportunity to add another bowler/all rounder to give more depth in the batting and bowling departments.

I know Shoaib Malik played well today but his series performance is far from suffice from securing a spot. Pakistan also needs to move ahead and not look at ageing cricketers like him because realistically he is just a short term option who can't play pace to save his life outside SC.

So given Sarfraz's form at number 5, Malik's incompetence with the bat and Rizwan's problems against spin I would personally like to see him bat at number 6 and play Aamer Yamin at 7 to bring more firepower to the side.

ODI XI vs WI in UAE in Sept/Oct 2016:

Azhar (only because he's still skip)
Sharjeel
Rizwan/Umar Akmal/Salman Butt
Babar Azam
Sarfraz
Imad Wasim
Aamer Yamin
M.Nawaz/Zafar Gohar/Amad Butt
Hasan Ali
Amir
Ehsan Adil/Sohail Khan/M.Asghar

inb4 Imad Wasim haters, but I agree with you. The guy clearly knows how to bat.

I would move him up to 6 and play babar at 3. 7 and 8 should be amir yamin and amad butt or nawaz.

If imad is at 6 and yamin is at 7 then they can share 10 overs between them and we still have 4 more to follow.

6. Imad
7. Yamin
8. Ammad
9. Hasan
10. Amir
11. Usama

This would be my lower order and bowlers. With imad and yamin being the 5th and 6th bowler they will have less pressure as bowlers and then they can really put in the hard work to become specialist lower order hitters.

Imads average of 42 in FC, anyone know how many matches are played in UK and how many in Pakistan?

Just so his average can be determined per country

Lol he was only born in the UK he played all his cricket in Pakistan

sharjeel
Azhar
Umar Akmal / Rizwan
Babar
Sarfaraz
Imad Wasim (Spot Well Deservedly sealed now)
Amir Yamin
Amad Butt
Zafar Gohar / Asghar / Usama
Amir / Junaid
Hasan Ali / Zia Ul Haq / Any other Fast Bowler

IMO No. 6 which gives us an option to play Aamer Yamin at No. 7

1) Sharjeel Khan
2) Azhar Ali
3) Baber Azam
4) Shoaib Malik (I hope Haris Sohail comes back soon)
5) Sarfaraz Ahmed
6) Imad Wasim
7) Aamer Yamin
8) Muhammad Amir
9) Amad Butt
10) Hassan Ali
11) Muhammad Asghar

I hope Yamin and Butt both performs well or we can find other fast bowler who can bat a bit

Shouldn't be batting above 7, not a good enough batsman to bat higher. He can be a decent lower order bat.

7 or 8, His game is based on belting the ball and would be prone to dot balls with more fielders in the ring.

He Should Or Would Bat Bat At 6 Or 7 Seeing At The Line Up As We Will Have Specialist Batsmen At least Till 5 At 6 Wicketkeeper Who Is Now Promoted To Number 5. Anyway Imad Wasim Is A Likely Replacement For Hafeez. So, Hafeez Must Be Sacked Now. He Doesn't Bat Well And His Bowling Is Already Suspended, Though If Remodelled Don't Think He Will Have The Same To Offer As He Did In Past. So, Time To Think About One More Youngster Coz Imad Can Do What Hafeez Did

#6

lol who are the heroes who think he should open or be our #3??

Given time he could be seen as a batsmen who can turn is arm over rather then a fully fledged ODI all rounder so number 6 or even 7 would be ideal slots for him in the side.

Imad Wasim at number three

I know how we all came to the sudden realization of Imad Wasim is only show and no meat, but I was wondering how often has he really been given a chance to go at it with the bat. He always show up when a collapse has already happened and he's the last hope for an anchor.

And as far as I can recall the couple of times he has actually the gotten the chance to give it some time, he hasn't done considerably bad.

What do you guys feel about giving him a go at number three? Yes I know the sacred spot is currently reserved for cousin Akmal, but sometimes I feel Babar is too jittery to maintain flow, or in most cases, build up lost momentum quickly.

No man, then you're looking at:
4. Babar
5. Hafeez
6. Malik
7. Sarfraz
That's a middle-order seriously lacking in hitting ability.

Imad is no Afridi, but he adds a bit of firepower when needed at the end of an innings.

Not at number 3 but he can come higher up the order if the situation demand ,him and shadab are far better batsmen than hafeez shezzad, azhar in loi

That's true. But that problem could be resolved if Shadab fulfils that role

the number 3-4-5 should be permanently reserved for Babar-Sarfraz-Malik.

I don't even see Haris Sohail making it into the ODI side and you're looking to get Imad in the middle.

Imad is one of our few bats who could develop into a finisher. Having Sarfraz and Malik as 6 and 7 would be suicidal

He's shown nothing to be promoted to no. 6 even, let alone 3

He's fine where he is

Mate, Harris is the second best batsman after Babar to come out of Pakistan in decades. He is a must, Hafeez is sitting on his spot

Shouldn't bat higher than number Seven.

Our Middle Order, Barring Mr. Blessed in All Facets, picks itself while with the Coming of Fakhar only one of the remaining opener slots should up for grabs.

If the #6 slot is clashing with Professors ego, I'd make him face some chin music partnering with Fakhar, move Malik and Sarfraz up one slot each and play Harry at #6. He'll be protected from the new ball and I believe his game is good enough that he can adapt to the needs of the lower order.

As much as I hate to admit this the national treasure's bowling is of good value so I don't necessarily would swap him with a pure batsmen that quickly. If it comes down to Batsman vs Batsman then Azhar makes way for Harris.

Hes good in Tests. Too slow for ODI. Sarfraz and Malik are much better ODI bats.

Haris can only play as opener or at number 3 with Babar as opener.
