What position should Shadab Khan bat in ODIs?

We've seen Shadab come in today at number 7 against West Indies and make an outstanding 86 which is his highest score in international cricket.

So far in 30 innings his batting position in ODIs has been:

Number 6 - four innings
Number 7 - fifteen innings
Number 8 - six innings
Number 9 - four innings
Number 10 - once

Pakistan have struggled quite a lot in the middle order in ODIs and have tried several different options without too much success.

Should Shadab bat higher up the order in ODIs or is number 7 the right position for him?

Eight. Nawaz should be higher. Good innings by him today but usually he’s not that great in international cricket, he can hold a bat but struggles for quick runs. Nawaz I think would do better and score more quickly. It’s important for the player at no.8 to be able to bat too these days so I don’t see anything wrong playing him there. Let him focus on his bowling. I don’t think there’s much worth setting a foundation at 7, better to give the bigger hitter more time to play himself in rather than coming in at 8.

Shouldn't bat any higher than 7. That was a very good innings but a rare one in his list of scores.

Would have to do it more often to convince me he'd be consistently useful anywhere higher. Hardly looks in control for most of the balls he faces.

Usman qadir is garbage and he can’t ever fluke something like this. You can hate Shadab all you want but there isn’t anyone close to him as a leg spinner all rounder in Pakistan.

You seem to be biased in your views , Shadab is not a world beater but certainly better than Qadir.

Since world cup is jus around the corner, we don't have much time to try out new stuff. In current scenario, rizwan is pretty much a waste in ODIs, we need to utilize him as an opener. Fakhar is tested at no 4 as well so why not play him there. Need a genuine hitting option apart from khushdil.

Usman Qadir!!!!! This guy couldn't even find a place in Australia local teams. He is in the team thanks to Babar.

He's the last person I'd want playing for Pakistan. The way he just packed his bags with so much resentment was a disgrace.

His bowling is far worse than Shadab who had a very good WT20.

We can’t have Inzimam or Yousuf come out of retirement to fill the hole at number 4 because Rizwan fans want him to be useful somehow

Actions speak louder then words. Become a bowler like kuldeep or a batter like rohit and then ill accept you.
