Now, we dont want to get too carried away here just because the boy is in fine form. We have seen from the past that January transfers from smaller clubs dont always live up to the expectations once they have a serious price tag on them (Andy Carroll). I think Arsenal or Chelsea could do well with such a player in their ranks.

I personally recon Leicester should cash in on him now, this is the best time where they can get around £40M for him. Do you agree? Is this the price that will take him away from them in January?

Leicester City need to atleast keep him this season if they really wanna have a shot at the title.

Selling Mahrez now will signal a small club mentality.

I doubt he'd want to leave in the middle of the season, and Leicester won't want to sell him either. The revenue they would generate from even a top four finish would be immense. They will do everything they can to hold on to him.

As for Mahrez, why would he leave in the midst of the best season of his life? He has a great understanding with Vardy and the team plays as a whole. I'm sure he'll prefer to stay till the end of the season and then evaluate his options. No doubt he will have a lot of offers from all over Europe.

Come on guys, their own players are happy to just accumulate 35 points knowing they will be safe from the drop zone

He'll probably want to stay with Vardy as they have been complimenting each other well on field. I don't think they will sell him unless a huge bid of £50 million comes in.

dont think anyone will pay that much, everyone knows Leicester finances are not great either - they can easily hold out but i really doubt anytone would pay over £20m.

Anyone know how much he was bought for? i dont think he will leave in january - Leicester will want top finish top 6 and need him to do so

Vardy and Mahrez combined for 70-80 mil. Leicester have no need to sell either of them..will take a ridiculous bid for them to even consider it (compensate for the loss of a spot in the top 5-6)

They were definitely very cheap for their quality of play.

Hes probably worth £20-25 M but i doubt leicester would be stupid enough to sell him mid season. He can join Arsenal next season.

don't forget Jamie Vardy, he's also been in sublime form. I would love someone like Arsenal or Liverpool bag him but I think neither Mahrez or Vardy should leave Leicester. They are on a brink of creating history, going away will effect their form as well

More of a Turan than a ginola, has really peaked under Ranieri

Wenger did want to buy him on September 1st

If he wants to go Leicester should let him go for a good amount.. Guy helped you win a premier league title..

Arsenal are dumb but what's new. £60m for Ratchez and To could've been had for £45m!. He was never gonna forget how to play.

So City offered £60m for him, LFC should have let him go if he wanted , it was a good amount. Now his head has turned and wouldnt offer LFC anything till the summer.

Poor from Leicester.

It seems that they had told the player that he could leave but now have backtracked.

Would have been stupid for him to move to City - only a replacement for Leroy sane - 6 weeks injury.

Read a article linking him to inter Milan today- don't think this will happen.

He might as well join Tottenham - realistically the only club he can play week in and improve

Sky Sports News understands Riyad Mahrez will return to @LCFC training this morning and has made himself available to face @ManCity on Saturday.

Riyad Mahrez: Leicester winger criticises 'untrue assumptions' about absence

Riyad Mahrez has defended himself from "untrue assumptions" about his period of absence from Leicester that followed a failed move to Manchester City.

The winger, 26, has travelled for Saturday's Premier League tie at City, whose rejected deadline day bid sparked a dispute between player and club.

On Friday he trained for the first time since handing in a transfer request.

In a statement the Leicester Mercury reported, Mahrez said the Foxes had "always been aware" of his whereabouts.

He said that "many people claiming to be my friend" had "spoken about me and things they know nothing about".

He added: "Off the back of that many people and journalists have made assumptions without properly checking the story, so I would like to clarify that all those so-called assumptions of why I was absent are completely untrue.

"I have been a part of the Leicester City team that has achieved much success including promotion to the Premier League and being Champions of the League.

"My goals have always been the same and I have always given my full 100% when I play for the club the fans and my team-mates.

"Those goals remain the same today and in the future and when I am asked to be a part of the Leicester team, rest assured I will continue to give my all."

It is not clear whether Mahrez will be selected to play at City, but if he does feature, it will be his first game since 20 January.

Leicester rejected a City bid of around £50m for Mahrez on the closing day of the winter transfer window.

Mahrez had made a transfer request the day before, but the Foxes refused to let the 2016 PFA Player of the Year leave as their valuation of him exceeded the fee City were prepared to pay.

Foxes boss Claude Puel said on Thursday that he would not pick Mahrez for Saturday's trip to City.

Puel accepted his player had faced a "difficult situation" and promised the club would "help him come back with a smile".

'Deserves better' or 'a big baby'?

Mahrez's international coach Rabah Madjer said the player "deserves better than Leicester", but former England striker Chris Sutton was critical of the player's reaction to his move collapsing.

"He's a big baby isn't he? Leicester has put him on the map," Sutton told BBC Radio 5 live. "If I was one of his team-mates, I'd be deeply unhappy with him."

Match of the Day pundit Danny Murphy believes Mahrez will leave the club this summer, saying: "He's outgrown Leicester. He's a Champions League player."

Since Mahrez last played, Leicester have beaten Peterborough in the FA Cup but followed that win with a defeat at Everton and a home draw with Swansea in the Premier League.

Mahrez has scored eight league goals this season and delivered seven assists, helping his side to eighth place in the Premier League.

In total, Mahrez has scored 44 goals in 165 games since joining Leicester for £400,000 from French side Le Harve in January 2014.
