So I was at the match last night and honestly it was a lot of fun even if we had to go through a lot of khwari to get inside the stadium. However there were a lot of security arrangements and as such it would be hell for everyone involved if several matches in a city were held in month long period.
I think PSL has been doing a good job in introducing cricket back to Pakistan. Last year was the final in Lahore. This year there were two eliminators in Lahore and the final in Karachi.
I believe such baby steps are the way to go. There are some folks who are advocating moving the whole tournament to Pakistan next year and say that we will deal with any consequences later. That, frankly, is crazy!
Asides from the organization chaos that will cause I also believe that at this point the foreign players are not ready to spend extended period in the country. Yesterday showed that foreign players are what make PSL what it is and having lesser quality foreign players will dilute the product.
So I propose this for next year in terms of hosting in Pakistan:
Rather than 3 matches, PSL hosts around 7/8 matches in Pakistan. However the 6 matches should include EVERY team playing atleast one of its own league matches in Pakistan. So KK plays a league match in Karachi. LQ play in Lahore, IU play in Pindi (not sure Islamabad has an int'l stadium). MS play in Multan,
QG and PZ unfortunately will not get to play a match in their own city due to security situation there. Doubt foreign players will go there regardless of what PCB says.
But anyways we will increase venues to 4 (Pindi and Multan). And number of matches in Pakistan from 3 to 7/8! (Four league matches, then 3 qualifier/eliminators and 1 Final - Perhaps the 3 match qualifier leg can move back to Dubai if 8 in Pak are too many?) Any match in Pak should sell out so might as well have the league matches in Pakistan and qualifiers in Dubai so attendance numbers in PSL can be maximimzed
Thoughts?
