Staging T20 World Cup ‘very high risk’, admits Cricket Australia

Cricket Australia (CA) has called the staging of the T20 World Cup this year a “very high risk”, ostensibly shifting its focus towards the Test series in December-January against India instead.

“The T20 World Cup is a big question and that’s a factor of perhaps (AUD) 20 million… We have been hopeful all along that it could be staged in October-November but you would have to say there’s a very high risk about the prospect of that happening,” Roberts told reporters on Friday.

It should go ahead at a safe venue no matter how much BCCI oppose

There is a very little chance that the WT20 happens and it should be postponed until a later date if possible. Although, i doubt the situation will change much in the next few months.

It should be postponed. As a gesture BCCI should grant them a tour of 7 Tests & 7 T20s to compensate for the losses incurred. It's the best we can do at this moment. Time to show solidarity.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) Board today agreed to continue exploring a number of contingency plans regarding the future of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 and the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2021 until next month whilst planning for delivery of the events in the scheduled window is ongoing.

The Board expressed its desire to continue to assess and evaluate the rapidly changing public health situation caused by COVID-19 working with key stakeholders including governments to explore how the events can be staged to protect the health and safety of everyone involved.

This contingency planning process will evaluate health and safety, cricket, partner and host considerations ensuring any decision taken is in the best interests of the sport, its Members and fans.

ICC Chief Executive Manu Sawhney said: “The situation surrounding the global pandemic is evolving rapidly and we want to give ourselves the best possible opportunity to make the right decision for the whole sport. The health and well-being of everyone involved is our priority and other considerations fall out from that.

“We will only get one chance to make this decision and it needs to be the right one and as such we will continue to consult with our Members, broadcasters, partners, governments and players and to ensure that we make a well informed decision.”

It depends on how the situation is like in September. It is hard to tell right now.

I think the event should be postponed if COVID-19 cases doesn't go down by September.

I think the event should be postponed if COVID-19 cases doesn't go down by September.

Even if COVID-19 cases go down in Aus. and other countries, it is difficult to host it in Australia as the Australian government is quite conservative regarding even interstate travel. Some states such as QLD have kept their borders (land & air) closed to other travelers other than in exceptional cases.

Depends on situation in Australia. If it isn't safe why not move it to NZ which is moving to a safety zone? If that isn't possible, the best solution is to postpone the tournament.

If the World T20 can't happen, don't see how the IPL can when the situation in Australia is not as bad as India.

If cricket wasn't so money hungry moving the WC to New Zealand looks easily doable.

Instead CA have gotten themselves in such financial difficulty there's no way they'll agree to waiting another 4 years for their coffers to be filled.

Most probably like the Olympics they'll plan for it to be pushed back a year.
