I'm hoping someone from U19 does well, like Muhammad Haris Khan (I think that's his name) the big hitting wicketkeeper batsman who played that knock against Zim U19.

Given Rizwan can't even make his PSL side he's not going to be travelling to Australia at this rate.

Apart from Kamran is there really any other realistic option for the vacant WK spot? Azam Khan is very raw and Pakistan only just dropped Sarfaraz the other day.

There’s a long way to go in the PSL and then a couple of series after, but this is the team I would go with currently.

The openers pick themselves. Haider and Zeeshan deserve a go in the top order with the license to play aggressively. Shadab to then come in as a pinch hitter if he continues his form.

Hafeez/ Malik as the stabilisers in case there’s a collapse and since Misbah has to include a senior.

Iftikhar and Imad to finish.

5 full bowling options with iftikhar and Hafeez/ Malik as the part timers.

A pace bowling all rounder would have been ideal but we don’t have anyone decent right now.

this is not easy 11 to pick because of constraints:

1) if we consider sharjeel/fakhar/babar + 1 wk we are left with only 7 options who could bowl

2) Faheem Ashraf is a proven dud with the bat (never seen him scoring more than 20 runs except those rare test innings, and he is absolutely worst in bowling, always get Phainta like Agarkar)

3) All rounders : Imad and Shadab are bits and pieces All rounders, but then we have no choice. Amir Yamin/Amad Butt trundling would be eaten alive by any team, so definitely I would not waste 2 spots for weak All Rounders, no matter how great they are at domestic, but so far Amir Yamin and Amad Butt has not shown any promise.

So we are left with 2 realistic choices in Imad and Shadab [ they can get 8 overs for 50/60 runs with may be 1/2 wickets between them, and can get 30-40 runs in total] So the idea is to maximize their limited potential. This also leaves with option of selecting Hafeez if and only if he can bowl in T20 WC. Malik does not bowl these days, and is ever so pathetic batting wise in SENA countries. Though he is a good fielder, so should play as 12th man :)

4)Wicket Keeper : Options are Akmal, Sarfaraz, Zeeshan Ashraf, Rizwan

Rizwan : Takes time in T20, so defeats the purpose. Not needed.

Akmal : Domestic bully. Will almost always fail against more than average teams. Plus he is very unreliable as a WK. Watch out for catches dropped/ missed stumping or run outs if he luckily plays. But should be no where near the team.

Sarf : When Sarfaraz was dropped from the team, I think Misbah, Waqar and management made up the mind that they do not want to take Sarfaraz to T20 WC. Else he would not have been dropped. Unless he plays some outstanding innings (which so far we have not seen). Realistically, he is not going to be part of T20 WC.

Zeeshan Ashraf/ some one else : We are left with only some trump card of wicketkeeper. So whoever gets selected, will be a big responsibility.

4) Openers : Plenty of them (Sharjeel/Imam/Fakhar/Babar) I think realistically Sharjeel-Fakhar-Babar would be top 3 depends on their batting positions on how they bat

5) Fast Bowlers : Plenty of options. But big No-No to Musa Khan ( he always get spanked, and knows only to bowl short-pitched deliveries). They should recall Amir/Wahab.

So based on the above constraints ,I think below is the best available option

As much as I am annoyed by azam khan fitness, he has been the only one amongst the younget lot to have won games. Also if these new guys fail we always have malik hafeez
Kamran and sarfaraz to fall back upon. Lol.
 
as much as it pains me to say this, Kami could actually do a job in this team. could be worth a punt. Keep umar away tho.
 
Sharjeel hasn't done anything since his comeback to suggest he deserves to be in the squad, nevermind starting.
Kamran Akmal is a known failure at international level who is a terrible wicketkeeper and even worse fielder. Would be a huge liability if he's picked.

I'd rather they give opportunities to younger players with potential to improve, then these old guys who we know are not good enough for international cricket.
 
If I were at Wasim Khan's position, I would rather utilize this opportunity of WC T20, and bring everyone (these 25 gentlemen , fans of course, their die hard fans, their die die hard fans who lost senses defending these 25 men, cricket lovers, casual watchers, media friends - who are trying their absolute best to make something exceptional out of mediocrity, and rest of us all) out of their miseries. This would be much greater service to Pak cricket in history ever, than bringing back International cricket back home..My composition would be :

5-6 in Asia Cup or 4-5 depends on which format we play

Lot of option to test these guys who come out of PSL so far not much impress with batting telent only Haider Ali looked little better. But Improved batting skills of Shadab and Imad can help us a lot.

Still i am worried about our fast bowling allrounder spot. I guess we have to stick with Spin Allrounder in shape of Imad or Shadab.

I'd rather have shadab or imad as spin bowling all rounders than ashraf and butt

Also I rather have sarfraz,ashraf than rizwan any day of the week

will be interesting to see who is selected as the keeper - would be absurd to select Rizwan after he has essentially been on the bench for the entire PSL

Competition for fast bowlers is also intense. I'm not sure how they pick out 4-5 out of the possible 7-8 candidates. Shaheen is the only sure bet
 
I reckon that malik and hafeez will fail and to be frankly honest these men are just milking their final days of cricket. I believe that PCB needs to start taking a stance on match fixers and not select anyone with a tarnished reputation no matter how good they are.

We must also account that in these Aussie pitches pace is king so pack yourself/give priority to having fast bowlers/allrounders in your team.

He's done nothing. Literally played an exhibition game in Larkana and then the PSL. His batting ability is vastly overrated by posters on this thread and his fitness is beyond atrocious.
 
Quite hilarious that Sharjeel is in everyone's squad. Looking at him from a distance at the game, the other day was akin to looking at a beach ball. That's how bad his fitness is. His batting aswell is immensely overrated by some posters. He is not the same player he was before his ban. He is very much out of touch and you can see it in his batting with the overtly gung ho approach. He needs some time to work on his fitness and rediscover his batting before he can be considered at all.
 
As I said Pakistan cap is cheap these days

Spot fixer and he hasn’t performed much in PSL so far and yet he has selected by most here.

Zeeshan Ashraf is thrash Kamran is the best option until we find a solid WK option for limited overs. Rizwan is decent for test and odi but need someone for t20s

The only changes I would make are the following

For the five fast bowlers

Naseem shah
Dilbar Hussian ( feel he can be a surprise package)

I would have Wahab and shinwari on stand by if in case of injury

Although I was a big supporter of Sohail Akhtar and I still am his form has not been good at all so in place I would put haidar Ali and have Zeeshan Ashraf on stand by

Umar and Rohail were not selected based on PSL I made my selection before PSL and I believe that Umar Amin has the back foot game needed in Australian conditions. Also if you read I removed Sohail Akhtar since he has been way out of form. Faizan is with Lahore yes

Sohail can hit but not consistent but if you read what I wrote I was removing him since his form has been bad as for faizan he is a talent just needs to get some more chances
 
I don't think there is much debate about it barring 1 position in the squad.

1. Kamran Akmal (WK) Still by far the best wk keeper batsman in T20 format. Solid against pace and the short stuff. Well suited to batting on Australian fast and flat pitches.
The arguments about his age are not relevant. We have 2 t20 world cups within 1 year. Let him play these and retire. Has to open the batting, finds the boundaries with ease inside the powerplay. Other options are just not good enough. Sarfaraz does not fit in the batting line up.

2. Sharjeel Khan. Power hitter. Still finding his way but he is showing he still has it. Needs to be backed and allowed to build his confidence with an extended run in the team like Fakhar Zaman got. Again one of our best batsman against genuine pace and the short stuff. Ideal in Australian conditions.

3. Babar Azam - Its a dilemma that he is moving down to 3. I am not entirely comfortable with this. He is a supreme quality opener in T20 and brilliant inside the power play. But he is also one of our best batsman at rotating strike and finding the gaps to the ropes outside the powerplay so still should do well. Chances are he will come inside the pp in most innings if one the openers goes inside the first 6.

4. Shadab Khan - With Babar at 3, and anchoring the innings. Shadab Khan at 4 can be a deadly combination. This is ofcourse a gamble. The Aus boundaries are alot deeper than those in the current PSL and Shadab may not have the power game to clear the ropes down under. So this can be changed up if it does not work out.

5. Shoaib Malik - Like it or not Malik and Hafeez are going to the WC. Misbah wants them there and they certainly will be. Adds experience to the line up and can handle the spin in the middle overs well.

6. Muhammad Hafeez - Coming in down the order frees up Hafeez's mind set. He can focus on scoring quuck runs rather than somewhere in between anchoring the innings and scoring quickly he finds himself in at number 3 or 4. We have seen him do a good finishing role in a number of key innings over recent years and for me this where he is best suited.

7. Ifthikhar Ahmad. Perhaps not ideal but a few levels above Asif Ali in terms of reliability and really has not done much wrong to be dropped from the T20 squad so far. Can strike big and we need big strikers to be our finishers.

8. Imad Wasim - ideal number 8. Can get quick runs in the latter overs. Has a weakness againat the short stuff so this maybe further exposed in Australian conditions but hopefully we will not have to rely on our number 8 too much in the first place

9. Muhammad Amir - big stage player. Will be keen on performing to prove his worth after being dropped by Misbah. The key will be his strike rate. If he can keep it tight the othet wicket taking bowlers in our attack can become more lethal.

10. Harris Rauf - 3 letters: BBL. Fresh from down under. Familiar with th3 conditions. Express pace. Wicket taker. Has all the variations and a gun death bowler.

11. Shaheen Shah Afridi - First name on the sheet in terms of our pace bowlers. Pace, swing and the added bounce because of his height make him a great option in Australia.

Rest of the squad.

12. Haidar Ali - Still a work in progress but with our available batting stocks has to be in the squad. Young and talented. Has a fearless mindset. Can possibly come in for Ifthikhar if he fails and swap batting positions with Shadab at 4. Or can replace Sharjeel and drop in at number 3 with Babar moving to the top.

13. Muhammad Hasnain - Showing he is a true wicket taker. Leading the current PSL charts by some distance. Deserves a place in the squad ahead of Wahab/Dilbar/Shanwari.

14. Naseem Shah. - Express pace. Quality prospect. Not sure if he can get a game with Amir, Shaheen and Rauf leading the attack but if one of them is having a really bad time of it then Shah or Hasnain can make their ways in.

15. Another batsman needed. This is the only place really that is up for debate. With such low quality batting stocks at our availability who do we put here. There is no point adding an opener as we already have 3 in the squad (Kamran/Babar/Sharjeel)

Possible options
Asif Ali - Has had many options at the top stage to prove his worth but failed to impress. Maybe now is his time.

Azam Khan - Does not quite look international standard but maybe worth the gamble with little being known about him.

Umar Akmal - Can he find his way back in the good books and make a magical return?
 
Kamran could be a good domestic league player but he was not good for international cricket 5 years ago and more so now nearing 40.
Sarfraz is deteriorating for 2-3 years and nothing has changed, even worst now.

By adding people like Kamran, Sarfraz or Hafeez will not improve Pakistan's performance at the T20 WC, they will fail in Australia , better try some young ones,

The Aus boundaries are alot deeper than those in the current PSL and Shadab may not have the power game to clear the ropes down under. So this can be changed up if it does not work out.

5. Shoaib Malik - Like it or not Malik and Hafeez are going to the WC. Misbah wants them there and they certainly will be. Adds experience to the line up and can handle the spin in the middle overs well.

6. Muhammad Hafeez - Coming in down the order frees up Hafeez's mind set. He can focus on scoring quuck runs rather than somewhere in between anchoring the innings and scoring quickly he finds himself in at number 3 or 4. We have seen him do a good finishing role in a number of key innings over recent years and for me this where he is best suited.

7. Ifthikhar Ahmad. Perhaps not ideal but a few levels above Asif Ali in terms of reliability and really has not done much wrong to be dropped from the T20 squad so far. Can strike big and we need big strikers to be our finishers.

8. Imad Wasim - ideal number 8. Can get quick runs in the latter overs. Has a weakness againat the short stuff so this maybe further exposed in Australian conditions but hopefully we will not have to rely on our number 8 too much in the first place

9. Muhammad Amir - big stage player. Will be keen on performing to prove his worth after being dropped by Misbah. The key will be his strike rate. If he can keep it tight the othet wicket taking bowlers in our attack can become more lethal.

10. Harris Rauf - 3 letters: BBL. Fresh from down under. Familiar with th3 conditions. Express pace. Wicket taker. Has all the variations and a gun death bowler.

11. Shaheen Shah Afridi - First name on the sheet in terms of our pace bowlers. Pace, swing and the added bounce because of his height make him a great option in Australia.

Rest of the squad.

12. Haidar Ali - Still a work in progress but with our available batting stocks has to be in the squad. Young and talented. Has a fearless mindset. Can possibly come in for Ifthikhar if he fails and swap batting positions with Shadab at 4. Or can replace Sharjeel and drop in at number 3 with Babar moving to the top.

13. Muhammad Hasnain - Showing he is a true wicket taker. Leading the current PSL charts by some distance. Deserves a place in the squad ahead of Wahab/Dilbar/Shanwari.

14. Naseem Shah. - Express pace. Quality prospect. Not sure if he can get a game with Amir, Shaheen and Rauf leading the attack but if one of them is having a really bad time of it then Shah or Hasnain can make their ways in.

Asif Ali - Has had many options at the top stage to prove his worth but failed to impress. Maybe now is his time.

Azam Khan - Does not quite look international standard but maybe worth the gamble with little being known about him.

So you would bring a failure like Kamran to open and in order to accommodate him, would drop the best batsman, Babar Azam, down from the position where he has been so incredibly successful? At least you find it a dilemma choosing between him and Kamraan, though Kamraan wins it in your eyes.

And Haris Rauf ... 'Fresh from down under' ... you mean 10 months after he played there and considering he has been injured after a rubbish start to the PSL anyway.

Well Kamran Akmal over Rizwan or Sarfraz yes. And with regards to him opening its to get the best out of him for the team. Babar is world class he will score runs at 1 or at 3.

I don't disagree with most of this, i think the analysis and picks are nearly spot on.

The only thing i'd change is the 15th squad member. Neither Asif nor Azam nor Umar deserve to be anywhere near the squad, and i'm not just talking about their limited batting abilities. I am still scarred from Asif Ali dropping that crucial boundary catch against Australia in the world cup which probably would have won us the game and thus progressed us to the semis.

If the situation is so dire that the above are our options then i'd just rather take Umer Khan tbh and go in a batsman light.
 
1.Babar Azam- The Best batesman in pakistan in t20s arguably the best in the world.Can hit boundaries against world class attack and has a wide range of shots.

Sharjeel khan. Stil has the hand eye co ordination to hit the big shots and can play short bowling quick starts is needed in power play.

2.haider Ali-has the skills and has the power game to hit big shots should be allowed to play his normal game has a fearless attitude.

4 sarfraz is the best keeper we have currently good against spin.

5 shadab this is a gamble playing him this high up the order but his fearless attitude and running between the wickets and from psl scores should be given a chance.

6.hafeez the less over he says the better should be in death overs so he can go from bowl one and attack also can bowl some part time spinners which could be help up.



Iftikhar 7.Hasnt done much wrong in international cricket and doesnt deserve to be dropped.More reliable than asif ali.

8.imad waseem pakistan best all rounder atm will give u decent overs and can hit the bowl long might struggle against short bowl thou.

9 amir big stage player will bowl tight overs whilst others get wickets.

10.shaheen afridi Pakistan's best bowler can swing the bowl both ways can bowl a good Yorker and bouncer.

Naseem shah. Can bowl upfront and in the middle and at the end has a good Yorker.

Pakistan should pick players who are also good fielders. Looking at psl catching is an eye sore at the moment. 3 to 4 catches dropped on an average !!

Your squad is identical to my squad barring 14 & 15.

Naseem Shah has no business playing T20s and so I would pick Wahab Riaz.

Number 15 will have to be Fakhar Zaman as he is still game changer.

And plz plz plz dont mention Azam Khan as it boils my blood knowing that a guy averaging 13 in domestic is getting considered for national duty.

Glad we agree on most of it.

Yes 15th squad member is the real issue. We may aswell save on the expenses and request ICC to allow us to have a 14 man squad lol

Or maybe a batting all rounder who can bowl some pace. We may need the 4th pacer in Australia to bowl a few overs. But again the options are really poor:

Will never happen but I’d like to see this starting XI for the World Cup going by PSL to date and subject to change. I will try to justify my selections below.

1. K.Akmal

Unfortunately we have no competent wicket keeper batsmen for this format. I’m not a fan of kakmal in the green of Pakistan but we literally have zero other options.

No doubt misbah will select rubbish like Malik, hafeez, faheem ashraf & imad to start but I couldn’t think of anyone else other then Malik for the no.5 position. Asif Ali, khushdil, Hussain talat have all flattered to deceive in international colours so I can only think of Malik to step in as an experienced pro. The lack of quality batsmen in Pakistan is a massive worry. Haider Ali is a special talent who needs to be nurtured and can easily come in for Malik if required.

I’m not a fan of imad wasim and his useless darters in any way shape or form. I’m a firm believer of your front line spinner Being wicket taker and for me Zafar is the best spinner in Pakistan by a country mile. The lad is fit, can bat and also field but he’s a genuine wicket taking option and it’s a travesty he hasn’t been called up more often for all 3 formats but especially for tests and ODIs.

Aamir Yamin is a must and like Zafar should’ve played far more international cricket imo. For me he is the best all rounder in Pakistan. His new ball bowling ability is excellent, he picks up wickets at the top and is also an extremely competent batsman. I like amad butt too with his death bowling ability and big hitting talent but yamin shades it for me as a genuine all rounder.

Rest of the team and squad picks itself. Zeeshan ashraf is a wildcard pick for me. Has shown he has the talent to go big but lacks consistency. Chuck him he might come good for a few innings. Umer Khan is another special talent and the future for our spin department alongside Zafar. Hasnain has super raw ability in T20s and is comfortably the leading wicket taker in the PSL. He’ll be putting extreme pressure on Rauf imo. Nasim has to be in the squad. This might be a bit early for him but he’s a true wonderkid and has to be in as many squads as possible for exposure. The kid can be anything he wants to be.

10. Harris Rauf - 3 letters: BBL. Fresh from down under. Familiar with th3 conditions. Express pace. Wicket taker. Has all the variations and a gun death bowler.

11. Shaheen Shah Afridi - First name on the sheet in terms of our pace bowlers. Pace, swing and the added bounce because of his height make him a great option in Australia.

Rest of the squad.

12. Haidar Ali - Still a work in progress but with our available batting stocks has to be in the squad. Young and talented. Has a fearless mindset. Can possibly come in for Ifthikhar if he fails and swap batting positions with Shadab at 4. Or can replace Sharjeel and drop in at number 3 with Babar moving to the top.

13. Muhammad Hasnain - Showing he is a true wicket taker. Leading the current PSL charts by some distance. Deserves a place in the squad ahead of Wahab/Dilbar/Shanwari.

14. Naseem Shah. - Express pace. Quality prospect. Not sure if he can get a game with Amir, Shaheen and Rauf leading the attack but if one of them is having a really bad time of it then Shah or Hasnain can make their ways in.

15. Another batsman needed. This is the only place really that is up for debate. With such low quality batting stocks at our availability who do we put here. There is no point adding an opener as we already have 3 in the squad (Kamran/Babar/Sharjeel)

Possible options
Asif Ali - Has had many options at the top stage to prove his worth but failed to impress. Maybe now is his time.

Azam Khan - Does not quite look international standard but maybe worth the gamble with little being known about him.

Umar Akmal - Can he find his way back in the good books and make a magical return?

Abid Ali is the most underrated batsmen in LOIs. In his last ODIs, he played at 100+ strike rate easily. In fact, he was the aggressor in the ODI opening partnership with Fakhar vs SL recently. He also pushes the tempo in test.
Was surprised to see him unpicked and hence untested in PSL.
Abid plays from a solid technique which is going to be needed to play international quality bowling attacks on Aus tracks.

He is also a wicket-keeper batsman...

I don't completely disagree with you. But the fact that he's been left out of PSL in a world cup year for whatever reason probably rules him out for the plane to Australia.

WK batsman is a stretch to be fair, he's more of a goalkeeper.
 
Pakistan T20 Squad Dicussion

My team selection for the upcoming T20WC

Hoping to hear on what others think!!

1. FAKHAR ZAMAN (hasn't performed that well in the past but I think we still need him as an opener, don't see anyone else worthy)

2. BABAR AZAM (dont need to say much on the back bone of the team)

3. HAIDER ALI (Very exciting prospect and I think his class shows how good he can be)

4. SHOAIB MALIK (not a huge fan of him but we need his experience, has performed well in the PSL as well)

5. SARFRAZ AHMED (bring back the captain!!)

6. IFTIKHAR AHMED (hasn't ever been consistent but can be a match winner)

7. SHADAB (Wonder boy is having a great PSL, hopefully he can translate that into international cricket)

8. IMAD WASIM (hanful with the bat and a decent spinner)

9. MUHAMMAD AAMIR (hes been decent so far and we'll need his experience)

10. SHAHEEN SHAH ( I think hes going to be be so crucial, I really have high hopes from him)

11. HARIS RAUF (doesnt had the best start in PSL but I still think with some more games and better coach and captain under him he can do well)

Name a better opener than fakhar? Any other big hitters other than IFTIKHAR or Asif? Any other spinner than Imad?

not impressed with any opener this PSL so I would stick with Fakhar. Not impressed with any keeper too Kamran is too old and with Malik performing I would take only one oldie for the world cup so I will take Zeeshan. So based on that:
