What should Pakistan's squad be for the T20 World Cup?

I would still go with Sharjeel in Australia. He is very strong on the backfoot and plays pace well. It's a T20 so not that much risk either.

They need to try out Haider Ali in a few T20's before he gets the lock. If Haider Ali fires then he could solve some issues for Pak. Hafeez/Malik will flop in Australia in any case but they love seniors.

The wicket keeping issue is a serious one. Pak probably has the worst keeper batsmen in the world. If none can bat or rather hit the ball out of the park then the safest is to go with the one that is best with the gloves? I'd never trust Kami with the gloves. He has already done a lot of damage destroyed quite a few careers.

People are making T20 XIs as though Najam Sethi is still chairman of PCB.

Current PCB under Mani/Wasim Khan has given Misbah and PCB free run to select as many favorites as they want.

For Misbah
Ahsan Ali, Babar Azam and Imam are slotted for opening positions.
Iftikhar, Hafeez, Malik for middle order
Rizwan, Shadab/Faheem/Imad for lower middle order.

Amad Butt and Khushdil Shah places are up for grabs, but they were'nt in the XI anyways.

ASad Shafiq can be selected in the T20 team.
Only Sharjeel Khan has an outside chance and it will come after he starts his blitz in the domestic circuit and the pressure mounts on PCB.

Mickey had to fight, argue and beg to PCB and chief selector Inzamam ul Haq to play Shadab and Faheem. For that he had to compromise on Imam ul Haq.

That 'Khushdil Shah lol' didn't age well, although now i'd have Fakhar and Sharjeel in and knock Kamran down to three and Hafeez/Malik to the bench, Asif out the team.
 
I cannot believe we are in such a situation with regards to the keeper. I genuinely don't know who should play.

Sarfaraz and Rizwan aren't suited to t20s. Zeeshan and Sohail aren't ready. Kami isn't a keeper, you might as well get Fakhar in as part time keeper. He has done it before I believe and probably will be better at catching than Kamran.

Can we not fast track the citizenship for Dunk please? Australia don't need him and with the borders closed, he might be staying in Pakistan for a while.

Realistically and injuries/other factors permitting this should be the squad Misbah should pick.

However, he'll choose either Sarfaraz/Rizwan/Akmal for Zeeshan

Also, he'll try to fit in Malik in there, so expect either Iftikhar or likely Khushdil to miss out.

I'd be also like a Zafar Gohar in the squad as a spin option, but genuinely don't know who to drop for him. Because I think taking 5 quicks has to happen, because of wickets there and because of playing to your strengths.

Yea, in the UK there's the overarching theory that it will return in the winter after a dip in summer, but the probabilitiy is that it will not be as effective as it is now. Heck, who knows, I just wish things get better.

With Naseem and Afridi in the team we have wicket takers, i would take Amir for his experience and then have either Rauf or Dilbar( if its possible both).

We have 7 bowling options with this in case 1 of the quicks or Shadab has an off day. Dilbar Hussain has been most impressive in the PSL but Naseem on his day is lethal. I think the issue with Naseem is he could go for plenty of runs on an off day.

The only position in this up for a debate is that of Hafeez where he could be replaced by Malik. I just hope Pakistan pick only 1 of them

For the keeper slot I have gone for Zeeshan Ashraf, it is a hit or miss. If he can get a quick 20 odd will be good enough.

The other gamble is Haider Ali but picking him is a no brainer. We need guys who can hit boundaries in the lower middle order and him and Iftikhar fit the bill. Iftikhar tho has been generally quiet in the PSL but his 2 fifties in the last Australian tour are hard to ignore.

It's crazy to see that Malik has only played 1 T20 in his entire career in Australia. I think he would be one guy that would be hard to take on the team considering his inability to play pace.

After 106 T20Is, i.e., a pretty large sample size, his strike-rate is 118. Not really what we need, I feel.

Harris Rauf will get in only due to public pressure otherwise Rahat would have been misbah's first choice

Because Sarfaraz was never going to play as a specialist batsman.

If Azam Khan, a WK, is good enough to play as a batsman then he should have more value as a WK-Batsman.

Rizwan (More suited for ODIs/Tests)
Zeeshan ( Nervy starter)
Akmal ( scores once in 10 innings)
Sarfaraz ( not a power hitter and not in contention for opening slots)
 
Yeah, don't want to see Asif Ali bat down the order where he can't handle pressure, so that makes Babar Azam the odd man out.
For non world Cup games, I'd actually like to see Pakistan play a bowling lineup of all-rounders - Faheem, Yamin, amad butt, Imad and shadab, Mohsin. They might lose some games but they'll invest in their future instead and perhaps develop a few good all rounders who can bat and bowl under pressure.

If he isnt good enough for a PSL team how can he be good enough for internationals? even as a batsman Azam Khan hasnt performed after the first 2 games.

Fakhar and Babar have a good record as an opening pair which helped Pakistan attain the top ranking. The former is lefty and aggressive while the latter is righty and calculated.

Hafeez, Malik and Iftikhar will be selected due to their 35+ age(s).

Imad is the world’s best all-rounder in white ball cricket, while Rizwan is the best wicket-keeper in Pakistan.

Amir and Shaheen are locks, brilliant new ball bowlers. Wahab is a great death bowler and can bat well on occasion.

Hasnain is a righty and adds variety with his pace, as does Rauf, who has experience in Australian conditions.

Shadab is an amazing fielder and a decent all-rounder, Khushdil played well in the PSL and Sharjeel is backup opener and a good batsman against pace and he can hit boundaries in the power-play.

Tough to leave out a handful of useful bowlers. Fast-bowling is the strength in the squad. Batting is weak.

Has a chance at the semi-finals.

I feel with this squad you get a good balance of spin and pace. Shan Masood offers some part time bowling as well as Umar Amin (certainly no mugs with the ball). Oh and almost forgot about Khusdhil as well.

Very proud of Khushdil but definitely want to see more variety in his shot selection, very strong on the leg side. Hopefully he keeps up the good work and we see him emulating those blistering shots like he did against Lahore Qalanders.

Dependant on the conditions you can add another seamer in Amer Yamin. However, we don’t know about his batting and if you were to pick the latter then Imad is a good option.

Not impressed and don’t believe in the like of chachu iftikhar, Shoaib “I know a great sheesha place” Malik or Pyan Hafeez. Need to get rid of jobbers and build a strong squad like we did in 2007 and 2009 WC.
 
WC T20 Squad

After seeing Pakistan today against a weakened SAF team, we definitely need experience in the world cup taking place in India. Would like some input on the squad below in the playing order.

Great Fire power in the batting lineup and bowling is top class.
 
Hasnain and Shaheen great new bowler attack followed by Hasan Ali ,Usman and Shahdab/Imad we can add Fahim in to the mix if batting fails in some games. But I think this batting lineup is proper modern T20Is batting lineup.
 
We have 3 anchors in the middle and all of them can play aggressively as well and Haider Ali and Shahdab can finish it off well while Hasan can equally knock a few as well.

Shahdab as a batsman did really well in PSL 5 but so far in this PSL he is so awful & we cannot rely on him for WT20's his bowling is frankly bang average in international circuit.

First of all, I want to make it clear that we as a nation should show some dignity & stop selecting players who were convicted for match-fixing. Amir's experiment has failed & it will happen again if we give Sharjeel another chance in Pakistan's team.

with the S/R.

Dont understand how does Shadab make it into squad even. He's a dreadful bowler, and his batting is no where near the T20 standards.

Shadab shouldn't be anywhere near the squad for any format.

He has done nothing with the ball and his batting is only good for a no. 7.

It is shocking that many are selecting him!!

I really don't understand this fascination with a guy who hasn't played int'l cricket since...what 2016? And on top of that he's extremely unfit as well.

I think Aamir & Shaheen has to be in the team, Hasnain/Hassan/Haris/Wahab needs to be rotated depend on form/condition and opposition.
Also Shadab/Qadir/Zahid/Faheem/Imad only 2 can play depending on condition.
Malik & and one hitter should be as back up in the squad
Rest seems ok.
 
I've followed Pakistan's last 3 T20I series against decent teams (England, New Zealand and South Africa) and purely based on that , I'd try playing this XI in the first match....

I'm putting Fakhar Zaman in the middle order to deal with leg spinners (pretty much every team has them) in the middle overs. He can also counter attack if there's a collapse upfront. The same reason why I'm inclined to try Dhawan in the MO (if Kishan doesn't come off) and push Rahul to open...

Been saying this for a long-time but I don't think Pakistani's care much about it because most of us are corrupt in some way or another & IMO that is the main reason they don't consider match-fixing a massive crime & think that once you've completed your ban you should be allowed to return to represent your country. Another reason might be the dearth of talented players in our system but we should take strong action otherwise these things will continue to happen with our future stars because they would know that even if they get caught they can get back into the squad after 2-year ban.

Fakhar is hit and miss and against quality bowlers, he's mostly below average so let's not get fooled by his PSL hoicks. Shadab has nosedived as a player and I don't want any fixers in the team.

Hafeez to bowl at least 2 overs per match to add the non-spinning off-spinner dimension to the team.
