What target can Pakistan chase down in the World Cup game against New Zealand?

My view is that anything above 200 will be very tough.

Although one would think that 250 is quite achievable but knowing our frailties, anything above 200 is not feasible

The ball is gripping. It's overcast. And NZ has greater bowlers.

I think under 240. Thinking is that Pakistan would need to milk the initial overs and then accelerate.

250 should be challenging. If Fakhar stays for even 10 overs it will become easier for Pakistan.

It's over. Don't worry. Easy singles inside circle. No intent from fielders in the deep. Can't take catches running. You may think it's too much, but is it? really? See the other teams' fielding and then compare.

Count on Babar Azam to fail today. That's what I am counting on. When was the last time he won the game for Pakistan while chasing? Or while batting first? Please tell me

250 is on, from my experience of watching 20 year cricket on TV. Unless we pick a wicket now

Over 200 will be tricky.

NZ has great strike bowlers.

Anything over 200 is going to be extremely difficult.

NZ is in the driver's seat now. At 80-5 Pakistan had full control but the match has slipped from Paksitan's hand.

Cant believe they let NZ get away from 78-5. Should be an interesting chase

We should chase this down, IA. However, I would like to see Sarfaraz being a little proactive and batting his three most solid batsman - Imam, Babar and Haris - in the top three. Fakhar will be a walking wicket against Boult in the first ten but can do some damage later on. I want to see this lineup:

1) Imam
2) Babar
3) Haris
4) Fakhar
5) Hafeez
6) Sarfaraz

Hopefully, we won't need anyone else to even pad up...

I hope we will do this.
But i would have hoped for something between 150-170

Too many runs 237.

180 was max

World Cup is done, Boult is going to rip us apart

75/25 to NZ at this stage we need to bat sensibly remember we threw it against AUS

See off the new ball. Habe imam retain most of the strike. Wickets in hand is the key on this pitch. Play slow until the 25th -30th over

NZ will win by 45-60 runs!!!! Pathetic bowling changes by Sarfraz

If Pakistan cant chase this down, then they deserve to be kicked out of the world cup

fakhar will score a century bcoz its been long time he performs and this is the perfect set up for him to show the world hes # 1 batsman

Boys have to rise to the occasion. 238 is a par score in ODI Cricket. Need to be careful against Bolt and see off the first 10-15 overs and only punish the bad ball

So it is defficult?? no way we should loae this.

Should be easy if we don't lose any wicket in first 10.

Since when is 238 a par score? Did you see how easy it was the last 15 overs?

There is no rrr pressure PAK should look to finish this in 47 overs or so by batting normally.

Should get this.

i hope I am wrong, but looks like Pakistan will horribly collapse today! 110 ALL OUT ...

Ferguson and Boult in tremendous form.

Pak should be able to win this after seeing through the first 10 overs. I think they will win by at least 4 wickets and get to the target by around 45th over. The pitch has eased a lot now, should be a comfortable win for Pak.

It’s over for Pakistan

NZ have the best attack and our batsmen are mental midgets when faced with pressure.

Pakistan let NZ off the hook and blew it. No way should have conceded more than 150 after having half the team in the shed for a low score

No need to panic it's less than run a ball. Rotate strike, get your eye in and punish the bad ones. Soon you will be enjoying your game and that my friends how you can get the desired target in under 45 overs with plenty of wickets in hand.

I expect both openers to do well. Good luck Pakistan.

Probably like 100 lol.
Pakistan is a very ordinary team going up against the best.

:))) We should of declared at the end of the first innings.

Come again.

You got your answer ;-)

Good innings by Babar. Unexpected at least for me. Could do well with bit more relaxed in 90s in future.

This is why I refrain from such threads...
I’ll be honest I thought the Kiwis score 40-50 runs too many but with Pakistan you can always end up with egg on your face...

Lol many humble pies dished out in this thread. But don’t blame the posters, Pakistan is a strange side.

I've come to the thread pretty late but if anyone gave me 260 or below at the beginning of the innings, I would have taken it. That being said, the way we started it didn't even look like they would make 200.

Panoties should come "AFTER" the game lol ...

Ricky Ponting "Pakistan beats whoever they want to beat and they lose from whoever they want to. It's not Pakistan vs the opposition. It's Pakistan vs Pakistan."

well said Ricky bhai

This was an unreal batting performance by Pakistan against a quality attack on a difficult pitch.

This is so unreal, honestly I am sold.

The fact is most teams struggle batting second in ODIs. India and Australia (perhaps mentally the toughest players) do less so on account of their stronger batting.

Look at England for instance they lost all games while chasing in this WC

Chasing RSA's modest 241, NZ themselves collapsed to 137/5 before Kane rescued them. So in a pressure game chasing is always a more tricky affair than setting a target
