So I would like to think that a nice green top in cloudy conditions would be great if we can send England in to bat first. However, if we have to bat first on such conditions - we could be all out for 80 knowing that a batting collapse is always around the corner when it comes to Pakistan.

On paper - a flat dry wicket benefits us more but I shudder at the thought of us losing the loss and England batting first on such a wicket and if Cook / Root return to form - we could be starring at a 500+ first innings score by England and with scoreboard pressure - we might get blown away like we did at Old Trafford two years ago.

What do you guys think?

The one we had in 2010 against the Aussies.

Green top with cloud crver. Pakistani batsmen are oozing with confidence and English batsmen seem to be lost. So I'm sure that Pakistani batsmen will outperform English irrespective of toss.

Sarfraz Ahmed has really bad performance in Toss. He lost all 4 tosses of the 4 Tests he captained. If it’s a green top, it’ll be really important for us to bowl first but that’s very unlikely considering toss chances

I want a green mamba with lots of cloud cover. Only thing better than beating a team in their backyard is beating a team in their backyard at their own game.

It would be too easy if we bat first on a flattish pitch, score 400 and then unleash Shadab against the English.

It won't be green top for sure. it will be bat first wicket. Bat first and take the game away from bowling side

a good supporting wicket , just like Lords will be helpful for Pakistan. A wicket where there is balance between ball and bat. If you concentrate you can play long innings and if you pitch the ball in right areas you can deceive batsmen.

Headingley is in my county of Yorkshire and back in the day it was a seamer's paradise.

However these days the pitch has become drier and flatter.

West Indies chased down 320+ on Day 5 last year here. When Pakistan played here in 2006 (the Test where Inzamam fell over his stumps), we racked up a score of 538.

At the toss its not so much a case of looking down at the pitch but looking up at the overhead conditions.

Hoping for a bowling friendly wicket.

Miss the days of headingley being a seamers dream.

Would love a flat batting paradise. Both teams scoring 400 would mean a draw for sure. I would take a 1-0 Pak series win right now:yuvi

I think bowling first would be beneficial because whatever the pitch has to do it will do first day

Bowl first. We need to dismiss them first day then bat for next two days defensively.

England will probably be looking for a flat track as it gives their batsmen a chance to score. And they know their bowling unit isn’t as good as Pakistan’s. So I think a wicket that offers some seam movement will be beneficial to Pakistan. A flat track might help England as they’re a better batting unit + they have the experience.

Far too often, I have noticed our fans wanting flat wickets in foreign conditions so that our batsman can make runs. However, to my pleasant surprise, almost all comments in this thread do NOT want a flat track and I agree 100% . . .

I have always maintained that the moment you create a flat track, taking our bowling out of the equation and essentially making it a batting tussle, we will be at a disadvantage. We will struggle to out bat decent batting line ups more often than not . . The last Australian tour proved that . .

Pakistan's best chance of winning abroad is on pitches like Lords where we are confident in our bowling line up capitalizing on conditions and getting the opposition out for a low score and hope that our batting team can out bat the opposition . .

Normally, England 1-0 behind in late spring would be looking to prepare a green mamba. With the cloudy, rainy weather that is forecast, such a pitch would guarantee a result and be ready made for Anderson. However, after Lords, they will be very wary of providing such a pitch to Amir, Abbas and Hassan. They know these guys are better then their bowlers. I suspect it will be a dry, bare pitch made for batsmen.
