What's new

What was the last thing you ate?

Yes I know that , I think there prices are not that high.

Yup. I think the price is very reasonable.

I live in Scarborough and one of their stores is near my house (10-15 minutes drive).

There is another store that sells great chicken biryani. I forgot the store's name. I ate from there once.

Nice. Enjoy.

The chicken biryani I ate was homemade (my mom made). :inti

My favorite chicken biryani store in GTA is Silver Spoon. Not sure if you tried that store.
There is a silver spoon in Karachi, almost certain they are not related but the food was really good. This was more than 15-16 years ago though, but you mentioning it reminded me of the delicious kebab and kat a kat with naan and glass bottle soda I had there :wenger

I see.

Not sure if Pakistani Silver Spoon is related to Canadian Silver Spoon. Anyway, Canadian Silver Spoon is a Pakistani store. So, it is possible. :inti

I remember when I used to play league cricket (2010-2015), my team used to bring chicken biryani for innings break. Team used to bring 2 huge trays of chicken biryani.

After eating that, it was difficult to field (if we were fielding second). :inti

After doing a 43-minute long cardio session, here is my meal: :inti

Rice + chicken curry

Yogurt and sweets

Milk.

:inti

Parathas + aloo bhaji + 2 fried eggs.

I have access to a Timmy Horton, and honestly, I find the coffee so average, it’s meant to be the best thing there right? The fresh donuts are top notch though.

I usually order a Mocha.

Is there Tim Horton in UK? Nice. Didn't know.

Tim Horton is Canada's #1 coffee joint. You can say it is one of the things that represents Canada.

I have been buying their coffees for the past 20 years. There is Starbucks here too. But, I prefer to stick with Canadian companies.

It’s only good in Canada. Average in US and UK.

Only other place it’s worthwhile is in Pakistan maybe funnily enough.

Canadian Tim’s is top notch and imo better than any mainstream coffee shop

I have never tried US Tim's coffee.

Canadian Tim is good enough for me. They have 4 sizes --> small, medium, large, extra-large.

I generally get a large one. :inti

Parathas + fried eggs + aloo bhaji.

Spicy potato chips (jalapeño flavor).

One large coffee from Tim Hortons.

After doing cardio for 35 minutes, here is my dinner:

2 slices of bread with butter inside.

A mug of milk.

:inti

Just ordered a 14 oz medium-well beef steak. An Indian guy is delivering my beef steak. :yk

I hope he will not spit on my steak because it is beef. I tipped him well. :inti

Losing weight is simple if you are eating a good amount of protein, hit the gym to make use of it for muscle building (if you are relatively untrained you can build muscle and lose fat at the same time)

Then just try to hit 5-10k steps a day. And be mindful of carbs. Do that for 2-3 months and you’ll lose a good chunk.

As desis it may be hard to do because we have such delicious foods, arguably the best cuisine of the whole planet. That is my struggle too. But stay strong.

This is true.

I think desi dishes and Middle Eastern dishes are the best in the world. No other cuisine comes remotely close.

Rice + muri ghonto (it is Bengali dish; consists of rohu fish and daal together; fish stew) + fried egg.

Papaya.

Ice cream.

Milk.

Just wanted to share this numbers. Found this alarming numbers in Diabetes in Pakistan. A very concerning one. Got to do with the food habits?
Yep. Also, not sure why but a lot of desis I’ve seen as opposed to westerners take formal exercise as almost- insulting? Hard to describe. It’s like they are proud to have pot bellies, and call that “sayhat mand” when it’s the opposite of health.

Indians are more progressive on this issue and I also feel Pathans are also naturally active and athletic Rest of Asia to the far east are very active. Riding bikes and walking everywhere and healthy food and portions. Levant arabs as well are decently into exercise as well, not so much GCC. Some of the best ever bodybuilders were Egyptian and Lebanese.

Desi diet + general lethargy and exercise is just 10-15 mins of Tahel pahel in the neighborhood and that’s it.

Even on here some guy was like I can’t even do 5 mins on treadmill without watching or listening to something interesting… that’s how detached from exercise we have become

The numbers looked exaggerated to be honest and might be from a skewed sample.

Diabetes is such a disease with will have enormous financial and mental impact long-term on people. The medical costs in poorer countries in the sub-continent incl. India aren't affordable for poorer sections of the society.

Agree with the social factors you mentioned and pot bellies were normalized in India too. But things have changed recently. Covid has made people health conscious even more.

While higher carbs diet has been common in the subcontinent, I also blame the sweetened sugar drinks like Coke thats causing the issue. Its health impact is heavily underpinned by the extensive marketing.

If people doesn't adopt physical fitness routines, this trend will only increase as automated robots is penetrating at higher rates in our homes. And hyper-delivery market is making us more and more lazy.

When I walk on treadmill or walk outside, I generally listen to a podcast or read news. I sometimes listen to nasheeds also.

Walking on its own is pretty boring. I need to listen or read something while I walk. :inti
