What's gone wrong with Karachi Kings in PSL 7?

Dec 2021

I see Wasim Akram and a Babu who is sleeping at the draft. I don't think Babar Azam attended the draft and this is his first PSL as captain. I am assuming that Peter Moores attended the draft virtually

As far as i am concerned, Wasim is the main person responsible for this debacle. A person of his experience in coaching in T-20 leagues should have better sense to forsee the consequences of the picks.

Plenty of problems but the first 6 overs of their innings is a major contributor to their struggles:

33/1
35/2
43/2
48/0
33/4
41/0

Babar Azam in the post match television interview "we lost today's match to Zalmi due to our failings in both powerplays"

Babar should have been man of the match today as he won the match for Zalmi!

The squad is horrendous The tactics poor

Just look at the names How many are genuine intnl quality players?

This team wouldve been poor no matter who was captain

Yaar this was very bizarre.. There was no intent at all.. You've lost 5 games it was an important game there was no effort at all.. Why sending an injured player at no. 3.. Sahibzada Farhan should've come at no. 3

Babar looks physically and mentally exhausted , he needs a break, particularly to charge his batteries ahead of Australia tour. KK is out of run for playoff, will give him few extra days for rest.

KKs are now out of the competition. It's pointless for Babar to play the remaining games. Maybe the PCB should instruct Babar to take a break and start preperations for the Australia test series now, he has a good three weeks to recharge his batteries and focus again. Imad can lead the KKs side again

I don´t know what´s ailing this team because that was an absolute horribly dead attempt today by them at chasing a perfectly chase-able score of 194. I was a little busy with stuff, such as lunch and other things during the early stages of the second innings, so when I sat in front of the TV and saw Babar Azam and Joe Clarke batting without any worry at all, with their team being just one down for around 80 or so in 13 overs, I was shocked, literally shocked, and was searching for the landmines unearthed in the pitch in the second half of the match. Slow batting as another thing, but I don´t think that I´ve ever seen such a sight before in T20 cricket where a team was chasing a score but didn´t go for it altogether even when they were just one wicket down. What were Babar and Joe thinking there? I´m baffled!

They didn't picked a good team in the draft. A lot of their batting was dependent on Sharjeel and Babar only. Sharjeel was unable to perform whatsoever. Babar is having trouble getting his flow back. He is not able to bat the way we all know. Maybe it's the captaincy. Maybe he's exhausted. KK's bowling attack was riddled with injuries as well. That had a little effect.

Whatever maybe the case. Right now priority for Pakistan should be Babar Azam. If he needs rest than he should get in the last few games. These are dead rubber games now anyways. KK can only hope to win a game or two now and just forget about this season like a bad nightmare.

That was one of the worst efforts, actually, probably the worst ever effort I have seen for any cricket match.
massive failure of an innings by Babar. No way he can open and be captain for Pakistan T20 Team.

Why do KK keeps sticking with Amir? He had a poor psl last year and he has hardly played enough cricket ever since he walked out on Pakistan Cricket. Relying on him as your premier fast bowler is madness

2 injuries,Islamabad doesnt have a 5th bowling option.... guess what, Karachi still losing :)))

Asif Ali and Liam Dawson taking wickets. :))

Damn Karachi is terrible

Omg, asif takes another :))

How bad do you have to be to be Karachi?

This was the only match they could had one as we did not have a 5th bowler playing, and they have now thrown 3 wickets to our part timers

That Asif Ali over is Karachi Kings PSL7 all over.

Absolute shambles.

2 catches dropped off Asif Alis bowling... wow this is some terrible cricket by Karachi

This is probably the worst performance in any season by any of the franchises.

A disaster in all facets.

some terrible feidling by Islamabad have now given karachi a chance to get their first win..

Imad Waseem might pull it off finally.

To think they let a promising fast bowler go in Arshad Iqbal is beyond me. He left KK after looking red hot in PSL 6, just to find him benched at PZ for Wahab and Irshad and co.

Even not bringing him back mid season is a major think tank failure.

Moores knew zilch - failed more miserably then Mickey who had some background being with Pakistan team.

Major Revamp needed with the President 1st on that list, Just imagining him as PCB chief gives me nightmares.

Babar Azam is only as good as the team around him

Don't get me wrong, Babar is a generational batsman one of the best but lets be honest. He is a bit bonga in his decision making. I believe his best is the performance others deliver for him.

Look at how he has not bowled Taha and Akram. How he has not bowled Nabi correctly or the team makeup he has chosen. In terms of his decision making there are limitations which have become clear when he has been given a weak team. NZ are a weak team but they punch above their weight knowing they are a weak team but Babar Azam will play and captain as well as his team itself. When you have a Rizwan and Shaheen in the team, their effort is their own, not due to Babar Azam and their combined performance give an illusion of a team effort especially this past T20 world cup. This was evident in Babar Azam refusal to change the team AT ALL in the T20 world cup even against minnows because of his limited thinking. There is not an semblance of street smart in his thinking which is unfortunate because all past captains thought out of the box like Rizwan and Shaheen have done in this PSL but Babar is so monotone maybe being a batsman is his only good quality and we can perform even better with a multifaceted THINKER of the game as Pakistan captain in future

He isn’t creative at all. Nor is he proactive.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t insist on having Malik and Hafeez in his side and carrying Sarfaraz around for safety purposes. He didn’t change his side against Scotland and Namibia also just to see if there was a better option than some of the passengers in the side.

Absolutely clueless captain who has been bailed out by individual star performances in some crucial moments.

The issue is the pak team has performed well . Once that losing streak begins and the bubble bursts he does not seem like the captain to turn it around until he is sacked himself

One thing is for sure. He is not good for youngsters and a very defensive captain with safety first approach. If he is being given the option to choose between Qasim Akram and Shoaib Malik in his side, he'll always go for Malik.

It is incredible that they cannot win even one game!

KK needs to bring in people who can be on the lookout for good domestic cricketers throughout the year. You can only recruit 4 foreign players in an 11 and those four can only do so much.
I also feel that at this point Babar needs a different setup to grow as a player and KK cannot provide it to him at this rate.

Karachi Kings become the worst team in PSL history

LAHORE: Babar Azam’s Karachi Kings added another unwanted record to their name when they lost the ninth match on Sunday in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season – the highest number of losses in a single edition by a team.

They were thrashed by Quetta Gladiators by 23 runs in match 28 of the tournament played at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore.

This was the King's ninth defeat in PSL 7, making the Babar Azam-led side the first-ever team in the tournament's history to lose nine matches in a single edition.

Previously, this record was with Quetta Gladiators who had lost eight matches in a single edition. Gladiators had this unlikeable feat in the 2021 edition of the league.

Karachi Kings earlier became the first team to lose eight consecutive matches in a single edition of PSL before they got a consolation win against Lahore Qalandars on Friday.

Their losing streak of nine matches is also the longest losing streak for any PSL team.

With just two points in 10 games, the Kings are also eliminated from the race to the playoffs of the tournament.

Karachi Kings have overall 43 defeats in seven editions of PSL, which is the most number of defeats.

They are the only team to lose more than 40 matches collectively in the seven editions of the tournament

You have to question those who appoint Babar as the national T20 captain

According to some sports journalists and including some ex players who have worked in the franchise before. The owner Salman Iqbal is only using the franchise to publicize his channel ARY, he is least bothered about cricket and he only operates the franchise 1-2 months in the year before and during the PSL and then shuts up shop for the remaining 10-11 months in the year.

Makes sense. Cricket is just a holiday for these business magnates

Maybe he should employ Wasim Khan on a 4-6 month contract to deal with the PSL draft and other admin, you will see some improvement.

The squad is just so poor. Really horrific bowlers with no go-to main wicket taking bowler. Batting is really poor too outside of a couple of guys. No depth.

Hopefully this leads to drafting some better players.

ARY has very deep pockets. They bought the PSL rights for 2 years for $24 million. Surely the owner can afford to make an investment where he runs the Franchise on a full time basis for a year or two, running talent hunts, camps, opening a high performance centre. I guarantee they will find some good youngsters they can use for their franchise who will prove to be better than their overseas picks.

Bottom of the table and no surprises at all.

The squad needs an overhaul and the management personnel and structure needs a look at also.

They are in the same boat as QG, big decisions and changes needed.
