What's new

What's happened to Haris Sohail?

We need a replacement for him but at the moment only haider ali comes close.

Haider can open. Saud slots in nicely at 4.

Haider
Imam (won’t be dropped yet).
Babar
Saud

That should be our top 4 in ODI’s imo.

Not at all to do with bounce. Ball just swung away from him and he prodded at it. Did the same in Aus too. It’s swing my friend more so than bounce l. The fact he’s getting caught in slips and gully numerous times proves that it’s swing.

Are you talking about today’s dismissal? I haven’t seen that but will watch it tomorrow. He’s susceptible to both (movement and bounce) but the reason I cited his dismissals in AUS is because they were bounce induced.

Description of dismissal from Cricinfo for today (haven’t seen this one though):

43.5 feels for the ball, gets the nick and Watling gleefully accepts. Such a disappointing shot from Haris and his poor tour is over. It's the bounce that does the trick. Haris is opened up completely as this one leaves him, pokes at that and it takes the edge. 79/4

Saud Shakeel is a like for like replacement for Haris.

Elegant left hander with a great FC and List A record.

I am fan of Saud and want him for test in odis I don't see a place for him other then opening. He can't hit a six to save his life.

I'm glad Harris was not injured and didn't sit out to save himself from this embarrassment. Disappointing to lose series 0-2 but if we get rid of couple of dead weights, that would a silver lining.

I don't mind saud being given a go but he can't hit.

As usual you don't have a reply and run away. Name his replacements for odis since he's a mohalla player.

Another case of someone who probably has all the shots in the book but just looking at him you can tell he’s a beached whale. Totally out of shape, carrying excess weight, at times uninterested, lapses of concentration and the list goes on...

he is finished as an international player, if he is picked again, this wil be huge injustice (i wont be surprised though)

Who's your alternative should be a lot considering from your tone. You are well known Haris hater. He would be the greatest team if Haris is a mohalla player and was our second best bat at the world Cup. I am waiting.

Saud shakeel should replace him in odis and tests

haris should never have been picked for the test squad.just look at his fitness along with knees problems.he maybe able to play odis but i would go with saud shakeel in tests and odis

28 runs in 4 innings at a horrific average of 7.

Look at the preparation ahead of the Test series. No first class matches, nothing until he got to NZ.

Regarding Haris - I can't even find the last time he played a first-class match before the Tests in NZ?

I would want to see the fitness report of Haris that prompted his inclusion. He was the biggest question mark on this tour. Either he's injured or just plain lazy.

Still doesn't make sense why he didn't play in warm up match. Out of all the test players, he needed the most practise. I'm assuming he didn't play in the first few rounds of QEA. He desperately needs to play domestic first class cricket but, strangely, he just doesn't play for whatever reason.

So it appears that Haris' last first-class match before the 2 Tests was 14th September 2019.

I mean what the hell is going on. Then we wonder why we keep losing.

Perhaps a question if you can at the next presser? Some hard questions needed to be asked.

He is like Sohaib Maqsood. Burst onto the scene in stunning fashion and looking like a million bucks, but once the other teams do some research and start planning for you they have no second response. Just put your head down, slouch your shoulders and give up.

I remember in the 2015 WC he was ripping through the offside with 4s, but as soon as Dhoni choked that up with fielders, he couldn’t get a run to save his life. Couldn’t play into the leg side whatsoever and ultimately buckled under pressure going for a risky shot.

No plan b. Just hope they don’t have camera footage of me and don’t plan for their opponents.

It seems like all these guys only become aware of their weaknesses at the international level. Be it fitness or technique. Goes to show anyone can succeed in our domestics.

This is another issue. PCB circus has managed him very very poorly in addition to his own limiting attitudes

True.

Nowhere in the world would a player be selected for a tough away Test series having not played a first-class match for over a year.

Haris sohail is a decent one day player but he has very poor attitude and a poor technique to cut the mustard in test cricket. We can harp on about selectors but even when has had full match practise he has been found out in overseas tour . Similar dismissals and no desire to work on his game reflect that .

I've said before, he has only just crawled past a total of 1000 First Class runs in the last six years. Which considering that he has made 847 Test runs in that time - at an average of 32.57 - shows just how un-seriously he takes preparing for Test cricket.

abit of both i think .fitness reports does the pcb even know what that is

I don't really understand his game to be honest. He never gets settled and looks like a player then can get out anytime. He never gives me vibes that he is now settled and will score big like Rohit.

Misbah complained about him in 2019 and there was an article released about his displeasure of Imad, Sarfraz and Haris not taking responsibility and their attitude as well as Haris the disaster of Australia should be investigated but don't think it ever will.

It seems theres a proliferation of t20s all the players want to get involved in but when it comes to Fc cricket nobody wants to play

The pcb must take some blame too even on tours they are more interested in orgainsing meaningless t20 than getting our best players and talent to play 3 day side games and get test practice

I’ll tell you guys what the problem with Pakistan Cricket is. Let’s go back to the 2018 u19 World Cup, Shubman Gill and other Indian players rise to the scene. A few Pakistanis also become prominent. What’s the difference between the two sides there? India groomed those guys and they are going to become world beaters in the near future. World beaters. Pakistan on the other hand falls into its own hype. ‘Oh Naseem Shah bowls at 150?, get him in the squad’. There is no development stage for these guys after their junior days. This falls back to the domestic circuit in Pakistan. We know that if these guys keep playing there, they will get injured and screwed over. Because there is no structure. If you want to look at Harris Sohail, what was the last first class match he played? What has he been doing in that time?

I know Mamoon argues that there is no talent in Pakistan, and while that seems a valid argument atm, we need to prepare our domestic circuit for a time where there will be talent. We need to introduce stats in our domestic circuit and teach people how to analyze videos, a reason why I’m a big fan of Ali Tareen. Another point, we need to think like a company. There was a poster who mentioned rather than building a team around players, we need to build it around expectations (top 5 must average ....) and he is absolutely correct. We need to stop centering ourselves around individuals but rather focus on building an environment where players build on each other and are selected based on their performances

But then why was he made to come on tour and why would he play him.surely he could have said i do not want him in the squad.his name has been around the squad for last year

That's the question for PCB management to ask him, fitness coach and the person who declared him fit (again probably the fitness coach).

However, at the same time i don't even blame our players but the lack of test cricket played and the lack of investment gone into enhancing player's abilities. I'll tell you now Saud or Kamran wouldn't have done any better, the squad selection as a whole was fine but had Saud/Kamran been selected then they would've scrutnized saying oh you brought people on that were inexperienced. Pakistan management really need to invest in drop in pitches and mix it up with practise games using Dukes and Kookaburra. No real investment has gone into helping these players prepare and the blame lies on PCB.

Haris' last first-class match before the 2 Tests was 14th September 2019.

Dropped from Pak v SA Tests:

Haris, Abbas and Shan will be invited to the High Performance Centre in Lahore so that they can work on their technical faults with the qualified coaches. Zafar who made his Test Debut in Christchurch remains part of selectors long term plans in both red and white ball cricket, and will also work with NHPC coaches on further improvement of his all-round skillset.

Out of Abbas, Shan and Haris, I believe Haris is the one who could make a comeback to the Test side. He's still a good player who needs to sort some technical issues out and regain his confidence.

At least he can actually play some domestic list A matches. It's not quite the 4 day practise he needs, but it'll do.

Magnificent 109* (99) from Haris batting at #4 for Balochistan in their successful chase of CP's 296:

Mohammad wasim on Haris Sohail's exclusion from the SA/Zim tour:

PakPassion.net: Many people feel that Haris Sohail has been treated unfairly by not being picked for the Pakistan One-Day squad. What are your reasons for not picking him?

Mohammad Wasim: My major concern about Haris is his current level of fitness. I’ve seen him playing some domestic cricket and at the moment I can’t see him standing on the field for 100 overs or even close to 100 overs. I can’t see him batting for 50 overs or thereabouts either. There is no doubt he needs to improve his fitness and his current form. I spoke with him about his batting position and I told him that there could be a spot in the middle-order available to him, maybe 4, 5 or 6. For him to grab one of those spots he needs to improve his strike-rate and to show more commitment. He needs to keep up with the rest of the world and what the team needs from him.

He will be sent to the NHPC where he will work on developing a few more shots, to come out of his shell a bit and improve his strike-rate. He will be around but he needs to work on a few things, show more commitment and he will be back. We all know he is very talented, but I do think that he has the ability to serve the team better than what he has done so far in his international career.

Players like Harris Sohail would clearly feel hard done by when he is dropped on the basis of fitness whereas Sharjeel Khan is selected with fitness not even being considered. I agree that Harris needs to improve his fitness and I’m perfectly fine with him being dropped but if fitness is the criteria, Sharjeel should be nowhere near the Pakistan cricket team.

Having different standards for different players creates a lot of anxiety, anger and overall loss of interest - not every player has the mental fortitude of Fawad Alam.

Sharjeel Khan is the unfittest man in cricket right now, if not sport in general.

Have you seen Rakheem Cornwall?

Misbah today saying that Sharjeel Khan's fitness is not a condition for his inclusion - they will work on it during his time with the side but why doesnt the same apply to Haris?
