What's the worst umpiring decision ever?

at least he was hit in line :yk

Far worse umpiring decisions have been made.

Aleem Dar gave Broad not out when he edged it to slip.

Asoka de Silva once gave an LBW against Pakistan that pitched at least 6 inches outside leg stump and was high.

Paul Reiffel gave an LBW in favour of Dan Christian when he was on a hattrick which was a howler.

And let's not even get started with Steve Bucknor :srt

Aleen Dhar's decision not to give AB out.

During the 1998 Test series between Pakistan and Australia, there was a plumb LBW not given. That was the worst LBW decision I have seen.

Javed Akhtar made a series of horrendous decisions at Headingley during the last test between England and South Africa in 1998. It was an absolute car crash of a performance, so bad that the umpiring itself became compulsive viewing.

Just to add, Ali Bacher accused Akhtar of colluding with bookies during that match to ensure that England won. There was an investigation (separate from the Qayyum Commission, some other judge presided) and subsequent cover-up by the PCB in the early noughties.

Seen many over the years, one that springs to mind was a Gooch run-out, when he was given not out by an English umpire when he was yards away from safety.

Here is another contender. Umpire Sharfuddoula gave it caught behind, but Saud Shakeel's bat was far away from the ball.

Had it been Pakistan appealing, he wouldn't have given it and then knowing Pakistan, they would have reviewed it and waste it, as it is a joke.

Pre-DRS and pre-neutral umpiring there were a lot of examples, Shakoor Rana helped us out a lot at home, and in some ways you can sympathise with Gatting a little for flipping his lid at him. There was one Sri lanka home series against england in the 90s with abysmal umpiring too. Bucknor gave a lot of howlers when the tech wasn't there to save batsmen from his blindness.

After DRS there are still howlers given though not as many you feel. Joel Wilson is responsible for a lot, and if Australia still had a review in the bank the legend of Stokes at Headingley may have been a very near miss, since Lyon had him plumb in front with a run or so to get.

TV Umpire Apologises For Big Blunder After Bizarre Scenes During Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Final

The TV umpire was forced to apologise for a massive blunder after Madhya Pradesh captain Rajat Patidar refused to leave the field after his side's batting innings during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final against Mumbai on Sunday. Patidar was left fuming after TV umpire KN Ananthapadmanabhan overturned the on-field umpire's wide decision on the final ball of the innings. The delivery from Shardul Thakur was given wide even though Patidar moved outside the off-stump to play it. However, the TV umpire overturned it stating that the batter has moved towards the direction of the delivery.

Patidar did not leave the ground and urged the on-field umpires to have another look as the ball had pitched the popping crease. The decision was finally overturned by the TV umpire.

"Extremely sorry, the ball had pitched outside the popping crease. I did not see that,” Ananthapadmanabhan was heard saying on the official broadcast.

Coming to the match, Mumbai leaned on their collective batting strength to subdue a spirited Madhya Pradesh by five wickets to clinch the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on Sunday.

Mumbai were stretched on more than one occasion during the chase of 175, a target MP built around skipper Rajat Patidar's fluent unbeaten 81, on a slightly tacky pitch, but eventually they reached 180 for five in 17.5 overs.

This was Mumbai's second SMAT title after winning it for the first time in 2022, while MP's wait for a maiden trophy prolonged to another season.

After a brief period of lull, Suryakumar Yadav (48, 35b, 4x4, 3x6) reactivated his run-making ways and added 52 runs for the third wicket with Ajinkya Rahane (37, 30b, 4x4).

It helped Mumbai to recover from the early dismissals of Prithvi Shaw and skipper Shreyas Iyer, both of them falling to rather causal shots.

Joel Wilson has to go down as the worst 3rd Umpire in the history of cricket.

You know it’s going to be a HOWLER when he keeps checking every angle for a very obvious decision. The fans know, the commentators know, and you’re just waiting in silence, knowing deep inside this guy ain’t got a clue…and in the end gives the wrong decision.

I truly hope he stays away from Pakistan games.

What about these 2 decisions... Those were pathetic decisions made by the on-field umpire.
