What's new

What's your favourite movie soundtrack?

Wait. Are you talking about the whole soundtrack or the main theme? Good choice btw

Main theme

Mods then please change the title. It's too hard for me to decide but the first few that come to mind are

The Good The Bad and The Ugly (my personal favourite), Requiem for a Dream, Interstellar, Jaws, Indiana Jones, The Godfather, The Dark Knight

There are so many more

Lord of the rings and Empire strikes back.
In more recent times- Interstellar

Out of the recent ones the Imitation Game soundtrack by Alexandre Desplat was dope.

1) The Good The Bad and The Ugly
2) T2 - Judgement Day
2) The Dark Knight
3) The Exorcist
4) The Matrix
5) The Godfather part 1

All time fave would have to be the Terminator 2 soundtrack I reckon. Unreal!

It blends with the deep themes of the movies . The opening credit sequence with this theme is so unnerving . !!
It goes from horror-emotion-thrill back and forth. They made it even better than in the 1st one. One of my favorite movies ever !

But for sheer replay-ability and popular impact it has to be "The good the bad & the Ugly", that is just one classic tune. !

If I had a nickle for every time I heard the blatant plagiarism of this tune in 70s and 80s bollywood movies ...

Requiem For A Dream, Interstellar, Inception, Blood Diamond, Imitation Game, Gladiator, We Bought A Zoo, 12 Years A Slave....many more, can't remember all.

You legend! That's the one Requiem For A Dream. Always forget that one for some reason :uakmal

Requiem for a Tower that's the one which was reorchestrated for LOTR Two Towers. Amazing soundtrack.

Yeah an absolute masterpiece that one. Fits Terminator to a tee. Goosebump-worthy :))

What About this Gem by Hans Zimmer. Really captured the scale and the sense of Adventure of the original 3 Pirates films :

The main portion begins at 1.15 mins.

Yup. Awesome. It makes me want to be an actual pirate lol.

Same as OP, definitely Gladiator.

Interstellar, The Last Samurai, Inception and Braveheart also great too.

Besides the ones which have been mentioned already:

1) The Good The Bad and The Ugly
2) T2 - Judgement Day
2) The Dark Knight
3) The Exorcist
4) The Matrix
5) The Godfather part 1

Good list, Titanic is another and the one which falls under the radar but is criminally underrated (Prince of Egypt):

Maria Carey and Whitney Houston also cover the song for the movie besides Michelle Pfeiffer's version during the movie itself, Carey/Houston version is played after the final scene in the movie:

I liked the one in Creed as well.

Some other gems :

Missed this one in my TOP 6 .

Arguably one of the greatest from the 80's.

The Indiana Jones OST

Truly captures the sense of adventure of the movie. Almost the same impact as the Star wars theme. Should've been in my TOP 5. :13:

If OSTs are not just about catchy tunes then this one would make the cut :

The 1979 Alien theme : Spine chilling .

Let's not forget what is arguably one of the most famous of themes in popular culture :

The Batman Theme ! (1989 film )

Though I personally rate the 1992, Batman: the Animated series version as much better ! This one from 1989 is a less polished version of that !

The entire OST from that film is great . Only beaten by the Hans Zimmer compositons from the DK trilogy in intensity. I feel the one above better captures the Gothic and Investigative feel of the earlier batman works.

"It must have been love" from "Pretty Woman". Video is a bit x rated so not gonna insert it. Brilliant track, awesome! I am sure you all agree.

Can't believe no one has mentioned Jurassic Park yet. An absolute classic!

For more childhood nostalgia :

The Lion Ling OST :

Such a diverse range of sounds, that too in an Animated Film. It was a special experience watching the film as a kid. The music remains a HUGE part of why this still remains one of the greatest Hand Drawn Animated Features ever !

The Lost Of The Mohicans.

I thought it would have been mentioned by now. There is an awesome flute version.

I basically love everything Ennio Morricone/Ilaiyaraaja, but if I had to give one track from Hollywood/Bollywood (of course, if you know the context it matters A LOT, and in fact I think that's what makes the whole aesthetics of a music) :

Blade Runner. It is my all time favourite movie too. I haven't seen a movie that has such a strong atmosphere, a sense of time and place, as Blade Runner. And Vangelis' sublime soundtrack along with visuals is the main reason why. It is melancholic and almost unbearably nostalgic; echoing a strange longing for a world that never was.

Each piece is perfect but Memories of Green, Blade Runner Blues and Tears in Rain are just something else.

Apart from that the soundtrack of Interstellar is another one that I adore. Docking and STAY (both versions) in particular.

Recently I loved the use of "On the Nature of Daylight" in Arrival. The movie is a masterpiece and the choice of the music, in two key moments, enables it to truly soar.

Technically not a movie but I love the themes from Carl Sagan's Cosmos as well. Surprise, its Vangelis again. Epic, vast, mysterious and beautiful; just like the universe itself. Ever since I heard these compositions, they have been amongst my favourite pieces of music.
