What's your view of Sheikh Rasheed?

for the last one week I have been going to Sheikh Rasheed schools in rawalpindi for employment related examinations

Anyone of you who sits abroad and sing praises should atleast visit these places before talking.

Sheikh Rasheed schools which are run by the govt dont even have any air conditioning. Students have to sit on wooden chairs, the class rooms and exam halls dont have any air conditioning and only fans are their that only swings humid heat. Even the windows are broken and some of the schools have halls that have a tin shed roof.

Before singing praises, always better to take a visit.

Pathetic stuff, they cant even provide students basic necessities while they use the budget on their own offices.

Very sad but you should also visits school in Tharparkar Daddu Badin etc where your beloved PPP is ruling for decades, atleast Sheikh's school has fans and chairs

How does this justify what sheikh rasheed has done. Where am i even priaising sindh govt here?

~where is the justification that Sheikh is right though comparatively his performance is miles ahead of Nisar Khoro Khursheed Shah Nasir Ali Shah or any other mafia man

Awami Muslim League Chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed on Tuesday predicted elections in September and said everyone is ready for the early polls except Azif Zardari, Geo News reported.

Sheikh Rasheed's statement came at a time when PTI chairman Imran Khan is mounting pressure on the government for early polls, in a bid to force the government for elections, Imran Khan has given a long march date in Multan jalsa scheduled for May 20.

On the other hand, the newly formed government is under pressure due to the economic situation as the dollar keeps reaching historic highs daily, however, the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led government has decided to complete its constitutional tenure till August 2023.

Speaking on Geo News Programme Aaj Shahzaib Khanzada Kay Saath, Sheikh Rasheed said that MQM-P had already said that they were heading towards elections and BAP would also take its decision in a couple of days.

"Fazlur Rehman is also ready for elections and there is a partition in PML-N on early polls, but only Asif Zardari has taken a stand against early elections," he said.

In an apparent reference to the establishment or the power quarters in the country, the ex-interior minister claimed that the government had asked for a guarantee from institutions to let it complete the rest of the constitutional term of 1.5 years.

"The government has asked institutions for help to stop the long march, but they have denied to side with the government," he added.

While predicting elections in September, Sheikh Rasheed went on to say that economists are being called for interviews in Rawalpindi and Islamabad for the post of caretaker Prime Minister.

"The country’s intelligence agencies are aware of the current situation and they want to fix this turmoil," adding that "the majority of agencies are in favour of early polls. However, Asif Zardari is the only obstacle to early elections."

Sheikh Rasheed said that the nation had forgotten about inflation, including all issues of Imran Khan’s tenure, and had taken a stand for a sense of honour, self-respect, and independent foreign policy.

"Now this is the war of self-possession, autonomy, and independent foreign policy vs. impudence and flattery," he added.

RAWALPINDI: AML chief Sheikh Rasheed said Monday that PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari “buried” PML-N — after the party suffered a humiliating defeat in the Punjab by-elections.

“The funeral of PML-N’s [politics] took place yesterday; Zardari has buried the party, and now, Maulana Fazlur Rehman should offer prayers for them,” Rasheed, who is an ally of the PTI, said while addressing a press conference.

Referring to the “landslide victory” of PTI in the hotly-contested by-polls, Rasheed said that it was a “laboratory test” and the nation gave its verdict in favour of PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

“It has been proved today that Imran Khan’s narrative has reached every home,” he said and doubled down on the demand of dissolving the assemblies this week — and holding snap polls.

“Shahbaz Sharif has become the PM of just Capital Development Authority (CDA),” Rasheed said in a jibe at PM Shehbaz.

He also noted that the PTI could have won the fourth seat in Lahore if it had taken a better decision — as the party managed to secure three out of constituencies.

The former interior minister — who wanted the establishment to stay away from the by-polls — also said that the establishment gained respect due to yesterday’s free, fair and transparent by-elections.

PTI grabbed 15 of the total 20 seats in the Punjab by-polls, while PML-N won four seats and the remaining one seat went to an independent candidate.

Before the by-polls, the PTI and PML-Q had already jointly attained the strength of 173 (163 of PTI and 10 of PML-Q).

Now, with 15 additional seats, this strength has reached 188 whereas the figure for the simple majority stands at 186. This means the PTI and PML-Q have crossed that landmark.

One independent MPA will likely be part of the new ruling coalition.

The clear victory of PTI in the Punjab by-polls has turned around the number game in the Punjab Assembly, with Chaudhry Pervez Elahi now most likely to replace Hamza Shahbaz Sharif as the new chief minister of the province in the coming days.

Former interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said on Sunday that PTI chief Imran Khan would “give the call for Islamabad” once the floods, that have ravaged the country and displaced millions, recede.

Taking to Twitter, Rashid said that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had made yet another agreement with the government for Rs608 billion. “First they robbed the treasury and now the people’s pockets,” he said.

“The floods have opened the eyes of the people of Sindh […] the floods have destroyed the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) reputation. How will other countries give aid when the people of the country refuse to give money to money launderers?”

He said that the people could not bear the burden of increasing petrol and power prices, yet the government continued to raise them. “Imran Khan will give the call for Islamabad once the floods recede,” he concluded.

Rashid’s statement comes a day after the PTI chief warned the government that he had been tolerating “excesses” against his party for four months and said if he announced a march on Islamabad then the government would have nowhere to hide.

Addressing a rally in Bahawalpur on Saturday, Imran had warned the government to stop using “pressure tactics” against him as his patience was running thin.

According to Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, the leader of the Awami Muslim League (AML), behind-the-scenes attempts at reconciliation can be successful by October 15; otherwise, there would be ‘judo-karate’ on the streets.

Former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan has separated with a lovely swinging delivery, Sheikh Rashid said in a statement on the social media platform Twitter on Friday. “Now PPP and Shehbaz must deal with the issue of [army chief’s] appointment,” he added.

In addition to criticising Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the former interior minister stated that Foreign Minister and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari did not even opt to fly in Shehbaz’s aircraft to Samarkand.

He projected that “judo-karate” would be practised in the streets if the ‘covert efforts’ to reconcile did not succeed by October 15.

Sheikh Rashid, a close ally of Imran Khan’s party, further said that the MQM-P's internal intrigues had put them in danger. “Time does not wait if decisions are not made on time.”

The statement came days after ex-PM Imran made a dramatic U-turn on Monday, saying the process of naming the next army chief should be postponed until after the next general election.

The suggestion effectively meant giving the incumbent COAS, General Qamar Javed Bajwa another, albeit brief, extension.

He claimed that neither Asif Ali Zardari nor Nawaz Sharif met the criteria for appointing the new army chief, and that both lacked the moral ground to participate in such an important decision-making process.

The PTI chief stated once more that he was willing to hold talks with the incumbent government if it was willing to hold new elections. "The country is in extraordinary circumstances [...] at this time, we must consider what decisions to make."

He stated that his life and death were in Pakistan, and thus his interest was in the improvement of the country. "I'm always available to speak if they want to discuss free and fair elections."

General Qamar's six-year term expires in late November, and the chief military spokesperson has already stated that the current army chief has no plans to seek an extension. So far, there has been no reaction from the military's media wing to Imran's latest statement.

The parliament was given six months by the Supreme Court to change the army act to make way for expansion. With the backing of the current ruling parties, the parliament unanimously approved the amending measure.

The PTI chief recently accused the Pakistan Peoples Party and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz of pushing for the appointment of army chief of their choosing in an effort to protect their reputations from corruption allegations, which elicited a sharp response from the military.

SHEIKH RASHEED ORDERED TO VACATE LAL HAVELI WITHIN SEVEN DAYS

RAWALPINDI: The Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) has ordered Awami Muslim League (AML) chief, Sheikh Rasheed, to vacate Lal Haveli within seven days.

The ETPB in its verdict said Sheikh Rasheed and his brother have ‘illegally’ occupied seven properties including Lal Haveli. Both the APML chief and his brother failed to present relevant documents about the property despite several chances.

The ETPB while rejecting AML chief’s plea for transfer and regularization of the properties, ordered the former interior minister and his brother to vacate the properties including Lal Haveli within seven days.

The verdict said the hearing was adjourned several times on the request of Sheikh Rasheed to present the documents of the property but he failed.

The verdict further said the ETPB has decided to take back the control of the properties as per directions of the Supreme Court.

Lal Haveli belonged to a Hindu woman prior to partition and was converted into Sheikh Rasheed’s political office in 1980 after he entered parliamentary politics.

This is not the first time Rasheed receives ETPB’s notice as he had claimed to receive an eviction notice in October 2016.

The board’s regional administrator had claimed that Rasheed was served a notice for an occupied land adjacent to the building being used by the AML chief.

SHEIKH RASHEED CHALLENGES LAL HAVELI’S EVACUATION ORDERS

RAWALPINDI: Awami Muslim League (AML) chief and interior minister Sheikh Rasheed on Monday challenged the evacuation orders of Lal Haveli by the Evacuee Trust Property Board, ARY News reported.

Sheikh Rasheed through his lawyer Sardar Abdul Razaq filed a plea in the court of Additional Session Judge Khursheed Alam Bhatti against the ETPB.

Terming the evacuation orders of Lal Haveli as political victimization, Sheikh Rasheed said the property belongs to him from decades and despite hearing the case scheduled for October 24, the Evacuee Trust Property Board served evacuation notice.

The court while barring ETPB from taking any action on the matter served notice to the board and summoned its director along with the record on Tuesday (tomorrow).

Earlier, the ETPB while rejecting AML chief’s plea for transfer and regularization of the properties, ordered the former interior minister and his brother to vacate the properties including Lal Haveli within seven days.

The verdict said the hearing was adjourned several times on the request of Sheikh Rasheed to present the documents of the property but he failed.

The verdict further said the ETPB has decided to take back the control of the properties as per directions of the Supreme Court.

Sheikh Rashid’s Lal Haveli residence sealed over ‘illegal occupation’

The Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) on Monday sealed former interior minister and Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid’s Lal Haveli residence in Rawalpindi over “illegal occupation”.

According to ETPB Deputy Commissioner Asif Khan, two units of the Lal Haveli and five adjoining units were sealed after teams of the board along with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrived at the spot early morning today.

Khan said Rashid’s ownership of these Lal Haveli units had been cancelled over illegal occupation of land. Several notices had also been issued to Rashid and his brother in this regard, he added.

Meanwhile, the former minister has claimed that Lal Haveli was his “personal property” and a “central secretariat for public service”.

The ex-minister tweeted that he did not receive a notice prior to the action, adding sealing Lal Haveli was an act of fascism and terrorism.

“If it is proven that Lal Haveli is not our personal property, we should be declared national criminals,” Rashid said, claiming that the government took this step after it failed to find anything against him.

He went on to say that a case pertaining to the ownership of the Lal Haveli was already fixed for hearing on February 15.

In a press conference later today, Rashid said that authorities had planned to arrest him but he managed to escape.

“I was told that my ownership of Lal Haveli was of 3.5 marlas and not four marlas. These are all lies […] even if you try to touch the Lal Haveli, I will give a call and block the Murree Road,” he warned.

Awami Muslim League (AML) leader and PTI ally Sheikh Rashid was arrested from his residence in Rawalpindi on Sunday evening, his lawyer Sardar Abdul Razzak Khan confirmed to Dawn.com.

“Men clad in plain clothes arrested Sheikh Rashid from his residence,” he said, claiming that the former interior minister had been moved to an “undisclosed location”.

Khan said Rashid’s nephew Sheikh Shakir and houseworker Sheikh Imran have also been arrested.

Separately, in a video message, the AML leader’s nephew Sheikh Rashid Shafiq said his uncle was arrested by the Punjab police from Bahria Town Phase III in Rawalpindi and his current whereabouts were unknown.

“Both the Islamabad and Punjab police have told the high courts in writing that Sheikh Rashid is not proclaimed in any case,” he said.

Shafiq also requested the higher courts to take notice of the arrest and find out where his uncle was taken. “We will fight the legal battle and have always indulged in politics of principles,” he added.

Sheikh Rashid’s Lal Haveli residence in Rawalpindi sealed.

The Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) once again sealed on Thursday Awami Muslim League (AML) Chairman Sheikh Rashid’s Lal Haveli residence in Rawalpindi, days after his arrest, Aaj News reported.

Last year, the ETPB had declared Rashid’s takeover of Lal Haveli and six other units as illegal.

Today, an operation was conducted to seal the building and no resistance was faced during the process.

A post from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ally’s social media said that a petition was filed in the Lahore High Court by Rashid through his lawyers Sardar Abdul Razzaq Khan Sahib and Sardar Shahbaz Khan.

The petition requested the court to restrain the authorities from sealing Rashid’s property.

The development comes after the former minister was arrested from his private residence in a housing society in Rawalpindi.

This is not the first time the residence has been sealed. Back in January this year, the ETPB had also sealed Lal Haveli over “illegal occupation”.

ETPB Deputy Commissioner Asif Khan said several notices had been issued to Rashid and his brother but they had failed to provide any authentic document or record.

Blocking army chief’s selection Imran’s biggest folly, says Sheikh Rashid

The mysterious re-emergence of “missing” political leaders in TV interviews continued on Friday when the face of Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed flashed on TV screens after a disappearance of 34 days.

In the interview, Mr Rashid kept professing his proximity to the army and said that attempting to block the appointment of Chief of Army Staff Gen Asim Munir was PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s biggest mistake.

As with previous interviews of former PTI leaders Usman Dar and Sadaqat Ali Abbasi, Mr Ahmed also denounced the May 9 attacks and called for a general amnesty for all those currently facing trial over the violent protests following Mr Khan’s arrest.

Mr Ahmed appeared in the interview a day after the Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court ordered police to recover him by Oct 26. He was allegedly picked up from his residence in Rawalpindi on Sept 17, according to his lawyer.

Sitting across from Muneeb Farooq on Samaa TV, the AML chief, who is usually flamboyant and candid in interviews, appeared shaken.

When the host asked about his whereabouts, Mr Rashid said: “Just assume I was on a chilla [with] a tableeghi jamaat (proselytisers). I kept reading the [Holy] Quran during these 40 days.”

When asked why he wanted to give an interview, Mr Ahmed said, “This has become a tradition”.

‘Black Day’

When asked about the May 9 attack, Mr Ahmed said, “It was a black day in the country’s history.”

“I immediately condemned that,” he said, while referring to the attacks on army installations, which he called a “turning point in the country’s political history and the main reason for the PTI chief’s downfall”.

He alleged the attacks resulted from a narrative built and propagated by certain party leaders. “This didn’t happen in one day. Gathering such a huge crowd and inflicting so much damage; it can’t happen in a single day.”

According to Mr Rashid, the military would take action against “non-political actors” involved in the attacks in line with their rules, but for the political workers who were dragged into the game, a general pardon should be granted.

“During my time in solitude, I decided to start a struggle to secure a general amnesty for poor political workers who were dragged into a political game,” he said, adding that he would request Chief of Army Staff Gen Asim Munir to pardon all those involved in May 9 attacks.

Going back to 2022, when Mr Khan was ousted through a no-confidence motion, the AML chief said he was of the view that PTI shouldn’t initiate a confrontation with the army.

He disclosed that he wanted to play the role of a mediator, but Mr Khan did not allow him to do so.

Mr Rashid said “three people” were mediating between Mr Khan and the establishment, but all of them had now formed their party. He, however, only named former defence minister Pervaiz Khattak as one of the negotiators.

Imran’s biggest mistake

Commenting on PTI’s long march in 2022 , the AML chief claimed the march’s objectives were much more than just mobilising people. “It’s not right to share those things now.”

When Mr Ahmed was asked why the PTI chief “attempted to stop Gen Munir’s appointment as COAS, he said, “This was the biggest mistake”.

“We, the politicians, should come out of this issue. This should be left up to the army,” he said with regard to the appointment of the army chief.

“Those around Mr Khan thought they had a lot of say within [the army ranks],” he said, adding that those PTI leaders thought if they reached Rawalpindi, they’d be supported by those officers.

Sheikh Rashid secures interim bail in May 9 riots case

A district and sessions court in Islamabad on Saturday granted an interim bail to senior politician and Awami Muslim League (AML) Chairman Sheikh Rashid Ahmed in cases pertaining to allegedly inciting people to arson on May 9 after the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan in a graft case from the Islamabad High Court's premises, Express News reported.

The proceedings took place before Additional District and Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas Sapra as the said case against the PTI ally was lodged at Kohsar police station.

As Sheikh Rashid appeared in court, the judge inquired about his well-being, prompting a humorous response from the senior politician regarding closed banks on the weekend. This light-hearted remark, seemingly alluding to financial constraints in securing the interim bail, prompted laughter in the courtroom.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Rashid's lawyer argued that his client's name was added to the supplementary challan and he was not the prime accused in the May 9 incidents.

Despite being listed in the secondary challan, the police conducted raids at Sheikh Rashid's residence, seizing vehicles, he added.

Following these arguments, the judge granted bail and restrained the police from arresting Sheikh Rashid until November 25.

Additionally, the court directed Sheikh Rashid to submit a surety bond of Rs5,000. The proceedings were adjourned until the said date, and notices were issued.

Speaking to the media outside the court, the AML leader revealed that this marked his 20th bail in cases filed at Kohsar police station, with 66 more cases pending.

He emphasised the importance of maintaining good relations with the institutions for the nation's survival, emphasising his age of 73 and the staggering number of 86 cases. He further expressed gratitude to the judge for granting him bail at an affordable cost.

Prosecutor skips hearing as ATC extends Rashid’s bail

RAWALPINDI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi extended the interim bail of former federal minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, the chief of the Awami Muslim League (AML), in 10 cases related to May 9 riots.

Judge Malik Ejaz Asif presided over the hearing and extended the bail till December 9.

The judge adjourned the hearing on the request of the public prosecutor, and instructed both sides to complete arguments in the next hearing. He also sought details of all the cases filed against former interior minister.

Judge Malik Ijaz Asif adjourned the hearing at the request of the public prosecutors, who did not show up and asked for an adjournment citing prior commitments.

The court also instructed the two parties to submit arguments and complete records of the cases registered against Rashid.

During proceedings, the judge was informed of a news attributed to the prosecutor that ran in the local media. The court was told that the news stated that proceedings would not take place and the court would only issue the next date of hearing.

Upon this, the judge became angry and remarked that such stories suggest suggest that someone was giving instructions to the court and warned of stern action if it occurred again.

After the hearing, Rashid spoke to the media outside the court. He urged the army leadership to form a board to investigate the events of May 9 and to ensure justice for those who he suggested were wrongly implicated.

He repeated that he had been implicated in over 68 cases since May 9, including dozens of cases for incidents on that day.

Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid was arrested on Tuesday in a case related to the May 9 riots, shortly after he secured bail in 11 other related cases including the GHQ attack case.

The court had reserved judgment on the bail requests of 24 people, including three PTI candidates and Rashid a day earlier.

Besides Rashid, ATC Judge Malik Ijaz Asif also approved interim bail for former deputy speaker of the Punjab Assembly Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi and other PTI workers in cases linked to the riots.

Rashid's bail was subject to the payment of a surety bond worth Rs100,000.

The AML chief's lawyer, Advocate Sardar Abdul Razzaq, mentioned earlier today that bail was confirmed in two cases, with the decision for the remaining 10 cases expected shortly. Interim bail was anticipated for the remaining cases due to similar allegations and evidence.

Advocate Razzaq expressed confidence in the fairness and independence of the ATC judges, including Judge Ijaz

During the proceedings, the public prosecutor told the court that the investigation was underway and sought sufficient time. However, the court expressed its displeasure over not presenting the record of the cases and directed the authorities to complete the investigation and submit the record by the next date.

The former interior minister and his nephew were also present in the courtroom. When the prosecutors asked for more time, Rashid came to the rostrum, took out a pocket-sized copy of the Holy Quran and took an oath by saying: “I swear by Almighty Allah that I have nothing to do with the events of May 9.”

The ATC judge remarked that it was not appropriate to give a statement on the Holy Quran in the court. The counsel for the former interior minister adopted the stance that the prosecution had no evidence against his client.

“The names of Sheikh Rashid and Rashid Shafiq were included in these cases without any basis. So far the prosecution has sought time on four occasions but is not ready to present arguments. On every date, a new excuse is made and more respite is taken,” Rashid’s counsel upheld.

Rashid and his nephew Rashid Shafique were implicated in 12 cases connected to the May 9 riots. All ten police stations had requested Rashid's arrest to complete the investigation.

May 9 riots refer to attacks on state installations last year, following the arrest of the then-PTI chairman Imran Khan in a corruption case. The installations, which were attacked, included the army’s General Headquarters in Rawalpindi corps commander's house in Lahore.

Previously the cases in which Rashid and his nephew’s interim bails were extended by the court ATC include the GHQ attack, the army museum attack, the intelligence agency office attack and setting a metro bus station on.

Court admits Sheikh Rashid’s acquittal pleas

Former interior minister and Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has filed three constitutional petitions seeking his acquittal on the grounds of insufficient evidence in the cases about the May 9 incidents.

The Special Anti-Terrorism Court while admitting all the petitions for hearing, issued notices to the investigation teams and summoned parties for arguments on the next date of hearing.

Lawyers Sardar Abdul Razaq and Sardar Shehbaz Advocates filed the petitions on behalf of the former interior minister in cases registered at three police stations, including Cantt, Morgah and Taxila, and the hearings were conducted on Tuesday.

Rashid, his nephew Sheikh Rashid Shafiq and 200 workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who were nominated in the cases, also appeared. The court granted the request for a hearing and called upon the public prosecutor to present arguments on May 14.

The petitions argued that the former interior minister was not present in Rawalpindi on the day in question and that he was falsely charged in connection with the May 9 cases. It was further contended that he should be exonerated from these charges as there were no injuries reported in any of the incidents and there was no audio-video evidence to support the allegations.

The petitions argued that “these are baseless political vendettas and fabricated cases concocted by the police with no possibility of any of the accused being found guilty in these cases due to lack of evidence and testimonies.”

Sheikh Rasheed predicts ‘technocrat setup’ in August-September

Talking to media here, Awami Muslim League leader in his new forecast said that ” interviews have been started, these ineligible persons have become disqualified”.

“Nawaz Sharif will not offer extension to any person”, he said. “None of those in the PM House cares about Shehbaz Sharif,” he claimed.

“All people are looking towards same direction,” former federal minister said. “The nation is dying, there is extremely tense situation in KP and Baluchistan,” he said.

“I appeal for general amnesty,” Rasheed said. “Conduct trial of me and other leaders separately and award sentences,” he said.

He said,” I didn’t think, they will take me with them for 40 days”.

“I didn’t give a statement against Bushra Bibi and the PTI’s founder,” he said.

Sheikh Rashid stands firm on September 30 deadline, predicts end of coalition govt

Former interior minister and Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has reiterated his stance on the September 30 deadline, stating that the nation will soon know whether a "charter of democracy" is being formed or whether it's "the death of democracy."

Last month, Sheikh Rashid had predicted that a technocrat government will take control of the country by September 30. The former interior minister had claimed that the ‘interview process’ for installing the technocrat setup had already begun.

Speaking to the media outside an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi on Thursday, where he appeared in connection with the May 9 cases, Rashid criticised the current state of governance. "Democracy has been stripped bare on Constitution Avenue. Even drug dealers aren’t arrested the way MNAs were picked up from parliament. If the speaker has any conscience left, he should resign. Even if there's just one member, move a no-confidence motion against him, even if it fails," Rasheed said.

He condemned the defamation of state institutions and lamented the rising cost of electricity. "Another Rs50 billion burden has been placed on the people. They are squeezing the already dead even further. Those they favour aren’t given remand, while others are handed over to police on physical remand. Sixteen months have passed, and no charge sheet has been presented. Their plan is to drag this out for 20 years."

Rashid painted a grim picture of the country’s economic situation, saying, "The nation has been destroyed, and the poor are dying. The IMF hasn’t even listed Pakistan on its next agenda. Education is in shambles—where once 3,000 girls studied, now only 300 do. I demand that daily wage labourers be released from these cases."

He further criticised the government for its mismanagement during emergencies, citing the deaths of two people in Rawalpindi and Islamabad due to the failure of emergency services on the September 8. "Placing containers on Murree Road is a great injustice. Even where no protests occurred, containers were set up. These rulers are incompetent and worthless. The people understand everything but are helpless in the face of these circumstances."

When asked about K-P Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and the possibility of removing Imran Khan from Adiala Jail, Rasheed refused to comment.

Reflecting on his recent experiences, the former minister said, "I endured 40 days of hardship; it would have been better to serve four years in prison. Those who were lifelong friends didn’t spare me either. I won’t speak against those who made me endure this ordeal."

Sheikh Rashid reveals his 'emotional meeting' with Imran Khan

Awami Muslim League chief and former interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed revealed a brief yet emotional meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan.

Speaking to media outside the Supreme Court, Rashid shared that Imran Khan embraced him warmly, saying, “You and I are one?”

Rashid also mentioned his 40-day detention, stating he faced no torture during that period.

Commenting on national issues, he claimed that "while Shehbaz Sharif serves as a mere figurehead, someone else is behind the ongoing cases."

He further highlighted the role of the overseas Pakistanis in saving country’s economy, recalling his own efforts in advocating for their voting rights.

Sheikh Rashid files petition in Supreme Court against indictment proceedings

Former federal minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed filed a petition in the Supreme Court of Pakistan challenging the indictment proceedings initiated by the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Rawalpindi in the GHQ attack case.

Sardar Abdul Razzaq Khan, Sheikh Rashid's council, contended that there is no substantial evidence to justify the indictment. He argued that out of the 95 witnesses in the case, none have implicated him.

The petition maintained that Sheikh Rashid was neither named in the FIR nor linked to the case initially.

His name was allegedly included six months later, clearly to bar him from participating in the February 8 elections. The indictment, the petition claims, is based on the forced statement of co-accused Sadaqat Ali Abbasi under Section 164.

The petition further argued that, as per the law, the statement of one accused cannot be used as evidence against another. It added that Abbasi already retracted his statement.

Sheikh Rashid asserted that he has no connection to the GHQ attack case. and should have been acquitted under Section 265-K of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which allows the court to release an accused if there is insufficient evidence to frame charges.

Alongside the petition, Rashid filed for a stay order and requested an early hearing.
