"When I bowled, batsmen got hit worse than this" : Shoaib Akhtar

That was intentional. Before that ball he was smashed by dhoni all over the park in that over. When Shoaib went to his run up, he threw the ball on the ground towards the boundary and picked it from there just to make his run up longer. He aimed it at dhoni's body and he missed it. Also, note that Shoaib didn't apologized to dhoni for the beamer which shows it was intentional.

Akhtar totally clobbered to all parts of the ground and an accidental beamer clocks 156 kph goes past MSD's head and no apology given on ground. I can only guess about it being intentional or accidental but have just always held him guilty in my mind for that. It was only 2006, had that ball been a few centimeters closer, we probably would have not seen a young raw talent turning into one of the greatest ODI batsmen of all times.

Hey guys, i am sorry emotions took over and i mentioned the MSD incident. Just personal opinion thats all. He's hit our batsmen's heads with bouncers and i have been cool with it. The beamer i could never forget but.

Yes my cousin played with him at his first domestic team - ADB and also Punjab youth teams. Never ever thought he would become an ATG despite his considerable pace and he proved us right!

It even looks like he chucked that delivery. If he had hid Dhoni, he would have gone and apologized like it was an accident. But Akhtar is a competitive athlete. Competitive Athletes have extremely high confidence and ego. Look at the NFL and rugby for example. At least we gotta unique character.

Shoaib Akhtar’s heart goes out to Sean Abbott

Abu Dhabi: Former Pakistan pace sensation Shoaib Akhtar wore a forlorn expression as he landed at the Shaikh Zayed Cricket Stadium on Friday evening to fulfil his obligations for a community cricket event organised by a soft drink brand. The unfortunate death of Australian batsman Phillip Hughes on Thursday has plunged the cricketing world into mourning and Akhtar was no exception.

During 13 years of his international career, Akhtar had tormented a number of batsmen with his scorching pace. As the debate gains momentum for a complete ban on bouncers to make cricket safer, Akhtar’s heart went out to the departed soul and the young bowler in question: Sean Abbott.

“It is an unfortunate incident and I still feel sick in my stomach. Knowing that it happened to my fellow cricketer, I feel very sad. My sympathies; it is a very over-rated word but can’t use any other word than this to comfort the family.

“My heart goes out to the family and friends. I hope God gives them the strength to come out of it soon. It is such a huge loss as he was one of the nicest kids I have ever met and one of the toughest competitors. It is a great loss for the Australia team, the nation as a whole and for the entire cricket fraternity,” said Akhtar.

The Rawalpindi Express was of the view that Abbott was really unfortunate while in his own case, he got lucky. Recollecting hitting South Africa batsman Gary Kirsten on his face during the 2003-04 Test and then Brian Lara in the 2004 Champions Trophy semi-final, Akhtar said: “The delivery that hit Lara was and almost at the same place as Hughes. Now when I look at this incident and think about it, I can’t do anything more but thank God that Lara was safe. Kirsten also got a nasty cut on his face and blood was gushing out and I held his head and was relieved to know he was okay. So these things happen and I will say I was fortunate.”

However, to call for a complete ban on giving batsmen chin music would be unfair on the bowlers with the sport already heavily tilted in favour of batsmen, he said. “It was the impact at an unfortunate area that let to Hughes’ death. People don’t die because of such deliveries; everyone in some time of their career has been hit by such deliveries.

“Just imagine cricketers who have got hit at 155km/h by my bowling and survived. Once you are playing such a sport, you should also be aware of the consequences that come with it.”

Like others, Akhtar too expressed concern as to how the incident would affect Abbott’s career and said it would take him a long time to recover. “I’m really feeling for that young chap who was there just doing his job. All of a sudden, this happened and we should feel sorry for him.

“I tell you the bowler only bowls bouncers to outdo a batsman, not to hit them. I personally have never enjoyed it when I see someone go down and bleed because of my delivery. I feel very sad for Abbott; imagine the trauma that he is going through right now,” said Akhtar.

“I never enjoyed hitting someone with a bouncer; I have always run towards them and held them as I didn’t want to be scarred for life. Hopefully, people around Abbott will make him understand it was no fault of his and make sure he comes out it quickly and move on and, also, the game of cricket has to move on.”

^Beamers do not hit batsman all the time. But the bowlers apologize for it anyway because ultimately its their mistake and batsmen are at risk.
I'm sure that was one of the most classless behaviour ever. It would have been the end of dhoni had it hit him.

I remember it vividly. The day before this incident, Dhoni had already scored a match saving century smashing a very fast century. He took apart Pakistani bowlers. I remember a hook shot of Akthar's bowling for a six. The impact was such, he swung the bat so hard, it hit his back of his helmet. I remember Dean Jones calling it shot of the match. He was phenomenal in that match. This beamer incident happened on the next day morning after Dhoni scored a century. He was finally out stumped of the bowling of Kaneria for 148. It was a match saving innings. One of the best attacking knocks I have witnessed.

He is 100% right he bowled a lot faster then the ball that Hit PH. And he was not being insensitive he was giving his professional opinion. People need to stop crying here a player died very unfortunate and he will be remembered and may Allah help his family and friends at this difficult time but people need to stop going over the top in grief "oh lets cancel the series PakVSNz" "lets name the Wordcup after him". Even F1 didn't go over the top like this for Senna who was a lot more important to the sport than PH I really don't mean to sound insensitive or Rude but ppl really need to stop over reacting,
