Said the truth here, has more to do with Najam Sethi andPCB's pathetic scheduling, its biggest long-term damage to Pakistan cricket. We have too less ODI tours and next year is WC 2019, this is extremely dangerous. PCB should arrange as many tours as possible even if they are with minnows to help build the national team as a strong contender for the ODI format.

It is true because in those 5 weeks, most of our players will not look after their diet and will eat biryani's, nihari's and drink all sorts of fizzy drinks. To be successful, you need to inculcate discipline in your life.

It has become a normal thing and will get worse from 2019 on as we play even less cricket.

Pakistani players play a month and then get two months rest. No easier way to earn money eh? Now with so many leagues around the world they even earn extra money.

Yet the PCB does nothing and is only focused on the PSL and getting cricket back in Pakistan while there are more pressing matters which need to be taken care of in order to improve Pakistan cricket in general.

This is worrying and shows some lack of professionailsm from the players and a lack of responsibility.

Basically what Mickey is saying is that the players cannot be trusted when they are not working with the international coaches and are left to their own devices.

Setting aside Pakistan's well documented issues around poor domestic cricket, I find Micky's comments disingenuous.

He is making excuses after the fact. Before the series, he didn't point that out as a problem. He was sure Pakistan would do well.

You are the coach, your job is to win games so make sure you win games.

If that means your players are ready before they take the field, then make sure PCB is fully aware and gives you fit and ready players. At least raise the issue.

Sounds like it is a pattern with Pakistan players - so where are the measures to fix that?

We were thoroughly uncompetitive in the ODI series. Nothing to do with T20 which is a different format. Fix it.

I feel this is another excuse after the T20 win. Pakistan did well in the T20 series but the troubles with the top order in the ODI series still exists. I feel that the Pakistan top order does not know how to play in ODI's, they are more comfortable in the T20 format. Even the bowlers including Amir are more at home in T20 than in the longer format. Something for the coach and PCB to work on and not give fitness as excuse.

I was expecting him to come out with a better excuse. Players complaint of non-stop cricket and now 5 weeks break is too much ????

This is all mostly on the players themselves. That said Arthur is only saving his skin here. There was no excuse for no training camp for this tour and not turning up to NZ atleast a month before the tour.

Don't let them free, don't put it on their shoulders.

They are on PCB's pay roll, arrange some physical training sessions in that period, make them busy.

PCB scheduling is a catastrophe, everyone suffers the players, the cricket fans and PCB itself. The 2 months gap between Pakistan team international assignments is bad for us.

They had a '13 week training session' which is fruitless and no substitute to playing matches.

Its better to play an associate nation anywhere than to get back to training sessions. Most of the senior players did'nt take any part in those sessions playing county, tamasha leagues elsewhere. The inzi favorites Amir and Shoaib Malik don't even play domestic circuits.

Micket Arthur should convince the board to increase the no. of odis and reduce the time gaps between tours. The selectors should also be given a danda to find a new player [no tried and tested senior trash] who can be nurtured to play 40-50 overs [for odi and test format]. Inzamam is only going to find a new player after getting pressurized by the PCB, that is how he works.

Well we will need some quick action now. Enough words.

Nothing to do with scheduling. This is a complete lack of professionalism by Pakistani players. They think that they can eat and do what they want when not under supervision.

Good on Mickey for coming out with this, any unprofessional conduct should have the spotlight shone on it, can't believe people are going after him for this. He is very responsible for a lot of things, but there is a huge amount of personal responsibility associated with playing for the national side, a sense of responsibility apparently absent.

How long are they going to be left for now? Apart from the PSL and "proposed" WI tour what do we have on our roster in the next 6 months?

It is a problem but I don't think fitness is related to these leagues. Maybe some of our fast bowlers are playing a few too many leagues, but I don't think it's the main reason why their pace is lower/ get injured. Amir's been inconsistent in terms of pace for a good while now, either his heart isn't in it or he seems to be managing his pace depending on the format, which isn't good enough, he should at least be bowling at full speed in ODIs and T20s. Doesn't really even deserve a test place atm.

I'm more disappointed the fact that it seems there's another trend in Pakistan. New players end up in the Pakistan team, cement their place and get fat/lose fitness. It seems like playing in international cricket is when players lose fitness, not when they're just playing in domestic. This has happened several times. Sarfraz and Imad being prime examples of recent memory. Kamran and Umar akmal in the past. Why are players letting their fitness slide after they've made it in the team? Boggles my mind, if anything you should start taking your fitness even more seriously, not the reverse.

You didn't need to be a doctor or dietician to see that several of the Pakistan players were overweight and unfit at the start of the tour. The captain was unfit throughout the tour and that sets a bad example.

The mystery is though how on earth did some of these players pass the fitness tests?

Something needs to be done to ensure our players stay fit when they aren't playing. We don't play enough so we need to find a way to ensure they stay fit.

A monitored diet? This is a professional National team after all. However the nutritionists aren't going to stay with them 24/7 and the player HIMSELF has to WANT to eat healthy. I remember the Kohli interview where he said he hasn't had butter chicken in 3 or 4 years. Now that's commitment.

A monitored diet and maybe regular checks at the NCA.

We all know how competent they are, the strive for bettering ones self should come from within, otherwise all the other checks and balances are futile.

Just see Wahab Riaz's snapchat you will get an idea of what players eat in their off times.

He's not making excuses, he's simply stating fact.

We looked undercooked on this tour as the players don't work on the technical aspects of their game during these long breaks and some neglect their fitness away from the eyes of the coaches.

I don't think Pakistans batting display can be blamed on fitness issues... just looking at the stat sheet tells you about the type of players we are playing...

Although I agree that the likes of Sarfraz need to get in shape and let go of eating biryanis if they want a prolonged international career.
