Where do Pakistan players get off with their star status?

I am asking this question because I am slightly bemused by this idea that Pakistan players feel pressure or get nervous during India/Pakistan games. Frankly I don't see it. Most of them looked like it was a big joke yesterday and there has already been a thread on their poor body language. In any case, the pressure is usually more on the team with more expectation as they have more to lose, the underdogs traditionally should have everything to gain.

Which brings me to another element which has me stumped. I look at players like Wahab, Umar Akmal, Hafeez and Shehzad just to mention a few off the top of my head. All of these are constantly giving interviews like they are some kind of superstars of the game but a look at their records and it's clear that they are anything but. Where does this self delusion come from? Is it the fans and media to blame? Or is delusion just a national trait?

National trait, Hum hein Pakistani hum to jeetein gaye be jeetein gaye..lol

I don't get why we are in shock at yesterday's result. India are currently better in all facets of the game, and it clearly showed in the match.

Pakistan players looked very nervous, they looked scared.

I think they were shocked as to just how much the crowd was in the favour of India.

However that is no excuse - what is annoying and quite remarkable is how the tables have turned. Indian players would be in awe of many of the Pakistani players in the past, now it's the other way around, there is a swagger from the Indian players and the Pakistani players look timid and intimidated.

Pakistan players always look like they think way too much of their own limited abilities to me, I already mentioned a few above, seems to me their egos are far bigger than their talent. But let's accept your verdict at face value, I don't know if you ever read Imran Khan's biography, but he mentioned when he first broke into the side most of the Pakistani players held the England players in awe and made comments like England players never missed a catch.

Imran made it a policy to get rid of such players and brought in less talented players who had some fight in them. I wonder if that time has come again where players need to be discarded if the occasion is too much for them?

Personally I don't agree that's the problem but it's worth thinking about.

It is the media as well going on about "shaheen" who can fly doing this and that. This current lot can't even walk never mind fly. They should call them "geedar" or "darpok" that may well get a positive reaction from them. We over respect our players making them in to superstars when they are not even domestic or national stars.

All that nervousness, timidness and lack of swagger is the resutl of not playing cricket at home.

Thats why it is imperative that international cricket returns to Pakistan ASAP.

That is definitely how Allan Border transformed the Australian side after Kim Hughes stepped down. He brought in players who exactly did not have God-given talent (like Steve Waugh at the beginning of career) but ones who were mentally very tough.

I tell you who I am worried about right now. Hasan Ali. This is a player who I really like, a big match temperament and got some skills to go with it. But he's not a superstar YET - but our fans and media are so desperate to see a hero that the likes of Ali and Babar are going to be treated as the next coming before they even have some results under their belt to show for it. I think a big problem is that these players start to believe the hype and don't realise that it takes hard work and commitment to achieve anything in this game.

Many of our fans here have been on about how Babar Azam is off the same class as Kohli due to his average. Well, against India he appeared to be like a fish out of water. We all saw what Kohli did towering over the average Babar Azam through out the match . Most of our fans even on this site are so easily impressed by a few decent performances. I will reserve judgement on Hasan as well.

They were scared, so much that they dropped dollies which turned the game into the favor of India. Kohli was never going to let it go, so's Yuvi.

I managed to find few positives in all the mess. Players like Hasan Ali, Shahdab and Amir were able to Keep Kohli in check for almost whole innings, this is a huge improvement over last few times when Kohli was simply unstoppable and was toying with Pakistan bowlers.

What he did with Hasan and co. for last few overs was the result of demoralized team post drop-catch. We can't say that Hasan failed in that game.

His drop turned out to be the deciding factor in the game where as his bowling was average as well. He certainly did not pass either.

National trait,.

This....This is what I thought after going watching many videos, reading this board etc. There are a few classy people like mamoon.

India as well is similar but still, less deluded than Pakistanis.
