At the start of the season (and probably until Xmas) you would have assumed Liverpool as winners - but not any more.

So will they end up as winners or also-rans?

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp hopes the defeat by Burnley will prove a turning point for his side.

The Reds lost 1-0 to the Clarets on Thursday as they went five league games without a win in a run of three draws and two defeats.

Liverpool have only beaten a weakened Aston Villa in the FA Cup in January and face Manchester United - live on BBC One - on Sunday in the next round.

"We lost that [Burnley] game and it was a really low point," Klopp said.

"It's not that I thought, 'Who cares?'.

"When I think back I can't find a reason why we lost that game but we lost it. It happened and sometimes you need a really low point to change things properly and that's for sure [what] we will go for now.

"If we would have won in a bad game the world would have said, 'OK, it's not the football they usually play but they are back on the result path', but in the long term it would not help.

"It can be a real help if we use it. I can imagine what a lot of people think about us in the moment."

Their form is a big worry. They haven't scored a goal in a long time, Man United will be licking their lips (though I don't think they'll last at the top)

They seem to hopefully be back on track now, after a good 3-1 win at Tottenham. Back to 4th in the table, only 5 points off the top, with a game vs West Ham tomorrow.

Even without a fit senior centre back, I'd still back them to finish in the top 2 teams.

They may not win this time. They are 7 points behind Manchester City currently.

2nd. Man City being great front runners will win it now.

Gary Neville: Liverpool 'too good' not to overcome their recent blip

Gary Neville says he enjoyed Manchester United's brief party at the top of the Premier League, but the Sky Sports pundit always expected Liverpool to fight back.

Jurgen Klopp's side have struggled for form in recent weeks, going five games without a win the Premier League.

It saw the champions drop down the league and allowed Manchester United a brief spell at the top of the table, but back-to-back wins at Tottenham and West Ham have propelled Liverpool right back into the mix ahead of a home game against Brighton and crunch showdown with current league leaders Manchester City, live on Sky Sports, at Anfield on Sunday.

Neville, speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, was full of praise for Liverpool and their ability to overcome some huge injury problems, especially in defence, to regain their form.

"The victory at Spurs on Thursday was a big one," the former Manchester United defender said.

"Going there with a makeshift defence and also going to West Ham with it and performing so well. They were controlled against West Ham.

"You might have been a bit worried if you were a Liverpool fan, probably 50 or 60 minutes in when they were just passing a little bit too much and with no Sadio Mane and no Roberto Firmino, you were wondering where the goal might come from.

"But Mo Salah completely changed the direction of this game after it drifted for a little bit. He was absolutely brilliant in that 15-minute period where he got the two goals."

Liverpool are a strong team and despite their recent injury issues have done well to comeback into within touching distance of the top spot. The problem for them now however is Man City have established some daylight at the top and look hungry again. I cant see them dropping too many points going forward, at the same time liverpool will still drop points.

The game on Sunday will go some way in shaping the table up, if Man City win Liverpool will be out of the race, if Liverpool win they will open up the gates for Man Utd and Leicester to try and comeback as well as putting themselves in a better position.

I think the final standings will be

1. Man City
2. Liverpool
3. Man Utd
4. Leicester

Fair post but even a loss to City wont end the title race in this season. We also have the Champions League which is massive for us. Hopefully we will get some players back by then but Fabhino and Hendo in central defence are very good.

"We're really trying hard in a very, very tricky season."

Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool are not close enough to Manchester City to need to think about the Premier League title race yet.

Jamie Redknapp says Liverpool's injuries and their drop-off in confidence and performance levels makes a top-four finish tough - but expects them to roar back next season.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to BT Sport: "We scored a wonderful goal, didn't finish the game off. Didn't play enough. A counter attack can happen but we had to just keep going, keep the ball and make them run. We kept them alive and they deserved the goal. They scored the one before, unlucky for Wilson but it is handball. We don't even take this present. Really tough to take.

"Why it happened, I don't know. We had to keep the ball. In a specific way we don't fight enough. Keep ourselves in a position where we dominate the game. We had 70% of the ball, we should have 80%. We created a lot of chances, didn't score with them, so we have to create more. That is how it is. We don't do that well at the moment.

"They fought for it and we got nothing pretty much, but a point. It feels like a defeat.

"If you deserve, you deserve it. I didn't see us deserve it today playing Champions League next year."

Looks they won’t get champions league football which is a big blow. They have a lot of 29/30 year old players who need replacing. Without CL revenue, not sure a big rebuild can take place. Liverpool like selling big and then reinvesting that back into the squad. I doubt any team in this Covid market is paying big money for one of Liverpool’s best players. Intrigued to see if Klopp sticks around as well. He usually only does 7 years at a club and leaves. Liverpool can’t afford him to go with the size of the rebuild required.

I think the best option for Liverpool Is if fsg sell up .

In past there were valuations and talks of a sale at 3 billion.

LFC have reported a £46m pre-tax loss for the financial year ending May 2020 - which equates to an £88m negative swing from their position just over 12 months ago.

Premier League predictions: Chelsea to to miss out on top four, Leicester and Liverpool to win

Jones Knows provides his predictions for all Premier League encounters; watch seven of the 10 final day fixtures live on Sky Sports; play Super 6 for a chance to win £250,000!

Jurgen Klopp's machine is functioning smoothly again. One more win will be enough to salvage what's been a miserable title defence. They can get it here.

Palace just might make a game of this at some point during the 90 minutes though.

Since assuring their safety, Roy Hodgson has allowed his players a bit more freedom in attacking areas. Only Liverpool have fired more shots at goal than Palace in their last four fixtures. The 10/11 for them to have 10 or more shots at Anfield is quite appealing for those that like a short price but I would rather take the 21/10 with Sky Bet for Andros Townsend to register a shot on target. In his last three starts from an attack-minded position on the left, Townsend has hit nine shots at goal with two of those on target. With Eberechi Eze and Luka Milivojevic both out, he's also on free-kick duties.

CORRECT SCORE PREDICTION: 3-1

Liverpool vs Crystal Palace today will be almost like a final match for liverpool.
