This is my list of the the players in order of merit with the most natural ability or talent to counter-atack or dominate pace bowling. It does not analyze overall merit against expres pace but just natural skill.Apologize to fans of Lara,Tendulkar, etc but I feel against express pace there were more talented batsmen. Both did not always relish the short ball .Greg Chappell was also vulnerable to the short ball. Not included Gavaskar as he was basically defensive and not as naturally talented as likes of Vishy and Majid.

1Viv Richards
2.Barry richards
3.Inzamam Ul Haq /Rohan Kanhai
5.Colin Cowdrey/David Gower
7.Ricky Ponting
8.Gary Sobers
9.Gundappa Vishwanath/Majid Khan
11.Graham Gooch
12.Kevin Pieterson

How many runs of Inzy on pacy wickets of Aus and SA?

How many runs of Barry Richards vs WI or Imran khan and co.?

Can Harsh Thakor tell me how is this natural ability and Talent measured?

LOL this Inzamam myth of him being great against pace bowling has got to be the greatest myth in cricketing history. It's like Rohit Sharma being labelled as some sort of a great player when he aesthetically times one or two over pitched balls through the covers, when the reality is something pretty different.

Sorry folks, an average of 30 with just 1 hundred in Aus/SA away pretty much disqualifies Inzamam from the list of Top 100 players against genuine pace.

Also what is his basis of proclaiming that Lara and Tendulkar were not good at playing the short ball? They wipe the floor with Inzy or Majid Khan or Vishy in playing any kind of bowling anywhere.

That is a very trollish way to compare cricketing greats. I think we can just compare cricketers without being disrespectful to them.

This talk of INZI being such a great batsmen of pace is making Pakistanis look bad.. It is now beyond a joke, need to stop this nonsense. There is a big difference between saying INZI was a good bordering on great batsmen of his time to saying silly things like INZI was the greatest against pace or one of the best vs pace..........

I didn't even bother to read the post and I will guess Barry richards is number one or two. And yeah inzi will also be up there with viv richards.

It's disturbing (and amusing at the same time) how irritated Indians get whenever Inzi is praised :ik

Nice OP Harsh Thakor , like always!

Gower didn't do that well against WI. Probably not not help that he was skipper for ten tests when they were at their absolute summit, and that depressed his run scoring a bit. He got big runs against Australia inbetween, but at was against an unwell Lawson, over-the-hill Thommo and green McDermott.

Deflectors like Gower didn't do as well for England against WI as the stand-and-deliver merchants Gooch and Lamb, both of whom got five centuries.

I would like to know when did Inzi play that great innings against Pace bowling and how often did he play? if he is really good against pace, not sure why he was averaging in single digit in places like Aus and SA. funny thing is, OP says Tendulkar struggled against pace. dude, has Inzi ever played an innings that Sachin played on Perth in 91 on bouncy and pacy wicket? Inzi handled short ball better than Tendulkar. how and when? seriously.
