So I was thinking been watching the game for so long and we se me players come and go and never to be seen again. Some retire, some don't perform well or what ever the reason.

My question to you guys is which player did you feel most sad about when they retired and why?

For me I have two, when Inzi retired and played his last game I was really sad because he was one of the people who I really enjoyed watching play but when Pakistan collapsed I'd always have hope knowing Inzi was yet to come in

The second player is Shoaib Akhtar just for the Xfactor and the excitement he gave me every time he came into bowl!

What about you guys? Which favourite player did you feel sad about or even still miss?

Sachin. It devastated me for a long time. Felt a little sad at Ganguly's retirement too.

For me it was Inzi. He had been playing cricket for as long as I'd been watching and to see him retire in such unfortunate circumstances, after a disastrous 2007 World Cup, on and off the field was very sad to see - specially since he tried to go out with a bang but was unable to break Miandad's record.

Ricky ponting. Last series was against SA and it was ugly the way he used to get out. Was Painful for me to see him go like that.

when INZI retired i Was very sad . 2nd is Skhtar he was a superstar. .

Shoaib Akhtar; the last real fast bowler and the star who I respected.

I was also broken when Kobe retired.

Inzi and Tendulkar. In the latter's case, it was the only time I actually realized what those banal words 'end of an era' mean.

Javed Miandad
Saeed Anwar
Waseem Akram
Shoaib Akhter
Shahid Afridi (Thanks GOD !! :D)

The inspiration... the primo... the long run-up... the long flowing hair... the dropping of the bowling hand behind for extra pace... the long leap.. the grunt before delivery... the indipping yorker.

Talking about none other than SHOAIB AKHTAR. There was none like him before and none like him after. The ultimate bad boy of world cricket and the personification of Pakistan cricket. Unabated aggression.

Wasim Akram and Saeed Anwar :(

Was gutted when Misbah retired in 2015

Have multiple names in my head.

India : Sachin, Ganguly, Dravid, Sehwag, Zak
Pakistan : Akhtar, Afridi, Inzi
New Zealand : Astle, Bond, Vettori
South Africa : Kirsten, Kallis
Australia : Gilly, Steve Waugh
Sri Lanka : Jayasuriya
England : KP, Trescothick, James Taylor, Simon Jones
West Indies : Lara, Ambrose, Walsh

David Gower, because Gooch deprived us of the last two years of that most elegant of batsmen.

Bagai,Sanga,Mahela, Afridi, Ponting and Ganguly. Sachin and Sanath were selfish and didn't feel bad when they left.

Shoaib Akhtar

Thanks to Kamran Akmal for ruining Akhtar's retirement.

Also felt sad when McGrath retired. Watched him dominate the best batsmen of his time for so many years that it felt weird to not see him doing that anymore.

Shahid Afridi.

But then he retired and unretired so many times, i began to lose interest.

Shoaib Akhtar.

There might never be a fast bowler like him.

Ricky Ponting from the international retirements. Favorite batsman.

Difficult to feel sad for any Pakistani player since they never retire

I'm usually glad when any Pakistani cricketer retires because they play way past their expiry date.

Inzamam ul Haq's retirement was very sad. What a man he was and I'm very happy he's our chief selector. Also, I still miss Ajmal a lot and when Misbah and Younis go, it'll be a sad occasion too. Outside of Pakistan, I'll miss seeing Hashim Amla bat for South Africa a lot when the great finally hangs up his boots.

Imran Khan.

I actually wanted to stop watching cricket when he retired.

Just off the top of my head

Shoiab Akhtar
Kumar Sangakara
Ricky Ponting
Brendon McCullum

Misbah from ODIs.

His retirement just made our batting line-up so boring. What a revelation he had been. Modern-day Master Blaster if you ask me. A thorough gentleman to top it all off. What more can you ask for?

On the contrary it made our batting better - granted we still have issues (inconsistent openers, lack of a finisher etc.)

But the norm of 220-230 scores in 50 overs thankfully does not happen anymore - we are scoring 250+ regularly which is a good sign.

Definitely Inzy and Shoaib Akhtar.

I would also argue MoYo as he deserved a far better send off than being thrown under the bus after Sydney 2010. Never got a proper retirement or farewell as he rightfully deserved.

I remember after his dismissal against Zimbabwe in the 2007 WC - he was actually crying.

Definitely a sad end to a great career.

It wasn't a sad end, he retired a legend respected all around the world. His retirement was sad because we wouldn't get to see him bat again.

Need a sarcasm detector... :)

Probably Sangakkara, Kallis & Ponting, the 3 best batsmen of the 2000s. Sad seeing all of them hang up the boots.

INZI I was watching him from my childhood. I started watching cricket from 1992 INZI played memorable inning he became my favourite since them. I could not stop crying myself by seeing my childhood hero playing last time. INZI too was very emotional I remember him crying loudly when walking out of the ground against zim in WC. Since then Pak cricket is not th same then came Misbah boring era then Azhar Ali. God knows how many Misbah & Azhar we have to bear before Pak start getting excited players

This is the best post in this thread.

Almost everybody has listed washed-up has-beens like Shoaib Akhtar and Sachin Tendulkar when they retired having become walking jokes.

But Shane Bond, Marcus Trescothick and Simon Jones were top class cricketers who were still world beaters when they became unable to play.

I see you don't rate Sachin, any particular reason?

I do rate him, but you only need to look at the numbers to see Kallis, Ponting & Sanga were the best 3 of the 2000s. Ponting & Kallis averaged 58-59 between 2000-2010, Tendulkar about 52. Clear difference.

Inzi in ODIS to see Inzi walk off the field crying after that disastrous WC we had on and off the field. It was a sad way for Inzi to bow out.
