Which current Pakistani players would be picks at the IPL?

IPL teams have very good scouts and they spend smart money. If PAK players are invited, I am sure Umar & Maqsood would get a contract. Amir, Afridi, Shadab, JK, Hasan and may be FZ, Babar, Malik, Fahim, Irfaaaan & Wahab.

Sharjeel would have been one of the highest paid player.
 
Hypothetically, Amir, Hasan, Shadab(probably by KKR), Shoaib Malik and +/- Fakhar. Hasan is the hot commodity, will probably be picked up by Mumbai or Kings XI.
Amir is a reliable t20 bowler so he would get picked in this scenario.
 
Hasan ali and yasir shah for sure.Maybe amir.Pakistani batsmen either too slow,or rank hackers which can be found from domestic players,no need to waste limited foreign quota.

Imad is one of the top bowlers in T20. And he can hit the ball well with the bat.

Btw you should see some of the trash players picked in IPL. He is a lot better.

Imad is quite overrated. He is unfit and coming back from injury, no one would buy him.

Fitness does count. Players who are unsold include Ish Sodhi, Ashton Agar, Nathan Lyon, Adam Zampa, Smit Patel and Fawad Ahmed.

I personally feel these players are better in terms of fitness (barring Smit) and skills.

What about garbage players like Morris, Searles, Mehedi, Wood, Dananjaya, Southee, Ngidi, Coulter-Nile, Cutting, Woakes, Cummins. They are all no names in T20I. Haven't done anything substantial.

Back in 2008 -Salman Butt was in top form as an ODi player. Score multiple hundreds during our tour of India, Kitply Cup and the tours of Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.

Since T20 was in its infancy - it was same to assume his ODI form would transloate into T20 success.
 
Afridi purely because of star power and because of the occassional cameo with the bat. Could be a good bowler but don't know how he does with the ball these days.

Amir because of pedigree and CT and Asia cup spells. He is synonomous with indian batting collapses especially given the small amount of matches he has played against india. He would be respected by alot of the players and fans.

Hasan because stats don't lie. He was the number one odi bowler for a good amount of time and did pretty well in the CT. He's been arguably our most consistent player of the past year.

Shadab because of how he is a hot property in t20 leagues all over the world.

Malik because of wealth of experience and also loved in india because of his wife.

Fakhar because of CT knock and star power that came with it. The common man in india would still remember him i think.

Imad wasim because he's a good option for when you need to dry up the runs. Handy with the bat


The real question is how many of these players would make it into the starting 11. Tough since they will be competing for the spots with other international players.


On a side note: Younis khan could totally be grabbed up by a team like KKR for batting consultant or batting coach role. They have wasim akram so likely that they are open to the idea of having pakistani support staff.

I think only the all-rounder Shadab and a few bowlers like Amir and Hasan would have any sort of serious demand. They might get a place in the playing XI consistently. Pakistani batsmen may get picked by a few franchises at or near base price but I don't see any of them getting a consistent place.

Pretty much the entire side considering how much better Pakistan are as a t20 side than India. Heck, the only time Pakistani players took part in the IPL, they dominated the bowling charts. A has been Shoaib Akhtar was better than all the indian bowlers lol
 
Shadab and hasan. Currently they r two of the best young players in world cricket.
 
Only Hasan. He is the only player from pakistan who i envy. Others are not. Shadab has potential in batting, but his bowling is not much special.
 
IPL values allrounders, hitters and skillful bowlers. Hasan and Amir will be the only picks.

Foreign spinners are not so valued. Tahir being one of the best in the world is a 2nd round buy.

They don't need accumulators like Babar of Malik.

I wouldn't mind Shadab in MI team. We missed out on an experienced wristspinner. He can hit out as well.

However, having an international spinner means, we will have to pick local players for other roles.

As of now

Pollard
Fizz/Jason Behrendorff
Cummins
Ewin Lewis
Ben cutting

These all players could be sure starters. Cummins can also whack a few and bowl fiery spells. As for wrist spinner, we got Rahul Chahar who is excellent young lad, have been keeping an eye on him. He sure will be key for MI in defending their title.
Shadab would definately be hot commodity, I just dont see him getting picked in MI when we already have a quality leggie.

What a disrespectful post. Some of those players have won T20wc. Its true that game moved on and they remained same but thats not an excuse to question their quality.

He may succeed. MI does have excellent record in identifying talent. Have to see him property first.

Above all also applies to Shadab then, apart from bowling at Windies/SL and incompetent NZ, he have relatively least success against other teams.
 
Shadab, Fakhar, Amir and Hassan are guarantees. Afridi will get a contract cause he's the most recognized name. More would get in if not for the 4 foreigners rule.

Either ways no Pakistani players is the IPL's loss not ours. No PSL if not for this, so I'm more than happy with that trade off.

I highly doubt IPL is losing anything with not having any Pakistani players, if anything they have been growing year after year. Pakistani players on the other hand are losing out on some $$.

They're loosing out players from the Top ranked T20 team in the world. As Indians love to talk about rankings, what's the point of a global T20 league without players from the top ranked team.

Again, my point was despite not having so called top t20 players it has effected neither viewer experince nor overall brand value. So, what loss are you talking about that IPL have incurred by not having Pakistani players?

It's not about losing money because pakistanis aren't playing, it's about possibility of gaining more. IPL is doing very well on its own without pakistani players but its not tapping into the pakistani market which is one of the most cricket crazy nations on planet earth. If pakistani players were involved in it, broadcasting rights in pakistan would go for alot more in pakistan due to the interest being generated amongst fans.

I dont think IPL is even trying to expand into other markets. They are first trying to fully tap into Indian market, and overseas Indians. Secondly, there is still no assurance that allowing Pakistani fans would open up Pakistani market, as you guy have PSL and dont think there is room for another league. Yes, IPL would gain in some neutral fans in Pakistan but how much does it increase the broadcasting deal is to be seen. Currently PSL garners around 10-15M per season(not sure of the figure, just my guess), so IPL would get less than that. Now on the other hand, IPL franchises would’ve to provide extra bit of security to the players, and there is also a risk of players being pulled out at last minute by PCB (like 2009) and leaving franchises at disadvantage. So, you think for the amount they migt get from Pakistani market, is it worth the risk and effort?

Tbh there are lot of political and trust factors invovled which any franchises would wanna avoid.

Lastly, do you see yourself wandering on streets of Pakistan wearing IPL jersey? The answer to this question will define if IPL can truly tap into Pakistani market.

Bro much more popular player like Gayle barely managed to get a contract. Ask any Indian, who would they rather watch Gayle or Malik.

As for Wahab, since when has become popular? Heck he is not even popular among Pakistani fans let alone India. If it was 2011 then Id have admitted Wahab would’ve been hot commodity, but its 2018 and he is been completely rubbish.

You shouldn't be so sensitive..you'll have a hard time on the internet with such soft feelings. On my post - it was in reply to the 90% of posts from Indians saying IPL only picks amazing quality players that Pakistan does not have..

These players might have have won T20wc but they were never amazing T20 players. So the theory of only the best of the best being picked by IPL teams is a myth. All top players play IPL but not every foreign player is top quality....

And lets not forget the amazing talent of Azhar Mahmoud playing the most competitive cricketing league at age 40 as well.
 
Why do Some Pakistanis are upset if some of the Indian fans thinks their players do not garner interest.


As an Indian i would spend money to Watch Lynn, BMac, Gayle, Ab, Warner, Andre Russel, Lewis, Pollard, than Babar, Malik, Hafeez.

Hassan, Shadab, and Amir are the only ones I would spend money to watch them, if they ever take part in IPL.

Tell me which quality T20 star apart from Shadab have been missing out?

Heck player like Joe Root wasnt even picked. Amla who scored two centuries last season wasnt picked. Most franchises are going for utility player who can bat and bowl a bit and vice versa. From the current lot of Pakistani players, Shadab (will fetch million), Hassan, and Amir (if he is allowed despite his past conviction) are only players I see them getting selected. Fakhar Zaman might but I wouldnt be to sure, but thats about it.

Malik, Hafeez, Sarfaraz, Etc are duds and wont even get picked in auction.

We already have PSL but when the IPL is on Pakistan isn't hosting high profile teams or touring big cricketing nations . This could prove a good window for the IPL since most pakistani fans aren't passionately waiting to watch other cricket matches instead.

I dont know how much the broadcasting rights price would go up by. It could be sizeable or could be negligible. As for PCB pulling players out at last minute, that is definitely a risk that players and IPL franchises would have to take and could very well backfire on them. And no i dont see anyone wearing IPL jersies on the streets in this political climate, but that could change if the political relations get better overtime. I feel that alot of pakistanis would tune in to watch the IPL just because pakistani players are playing in it. In terms of security for pak players, I imagine security is naturally high for IPL matches but yes, they might have to step it up in certain scenarios.

The pre-match hype for some showdowns between pakistani and indian players would be huge. I can already imagine banners being set-up in India saying "Mumbai Indian's star bowler Amir, the bowler that won India's arch-rivals pakistan the CT, will have to get past runs machine Virat kohli, a man seeking vengeance for that very defeat". A bit too long for a banner, but that sort of stuff would defintiely generate hype on both sides of the border.

Nevertheless, all of this is subject to political relations getting better between pak and india, which could take decades. If they do, then forget jersies, people will roam around in RCB face paint and tatoos. :ashwin

Root was overlooked one of the reason was he too was accumulator like Babar (root is better player and captain exp) + his unavailability for full duration of IPL.

Obviously ...IPL and BBL are top 2 leagues currently . Also Ind and AUS are top 2 cricketing nations ...We Indians love AUS players never say die attitude in Sports. They fight till end to win, which results in exciting IPL games. Quality of Cricket will be better. Having SL, BD players will be of any value to the league!

Where did you get that figure of 70? As there can be only 8 overseas players in the squad for each team, it adds up to a total of 8*8=64 overseas players for all teams together.

Edit: Just saw a article. There are only 20 Australians in this year's IPL. Lol at 70.

There are 19 Aussies playing in IPL 2018.My main issue is not the no of Aussies playing but the price with which they have been gone for.For EX-: Darcy short(AUS) went for 4 Cr while Munro(NZ) who was No 1 T20 batsmen(at the time of Auction) went for Only 1.8cr.
 
C munro already has T20 hundred Against India in India.Now you can say that we don't really know how good Munro is against quality spin or on turning pitches but we also don't know how good Short is against Quality spin/ Turning pitches.

IPL is clearly biased towards the players from certain countries.

How can there be 70 Australian in IPL when there is about 64 International players being picked.

Oh last i checked, there were 55 players from Australia were in auction, so how can there be 70 Aussie players in IPL?

I believed in numbers posted by the guy; still IPL owners punt on AUS players. One more reason being most of support staff /mentors/ coaches are from AUS.

Root was over looked because of Indian jealousy, so yes, if we go off of that then no Pakistani would be picked. My posts are based on factual picks and there is noway there are 5 better batsmen to be picked in India than Babar, and only one instead of Root.

Shadab is the best young cricketer on the circuit.

SO yeah, anyway no one cares, most think the PSL is better :)

Mate, I want Pak to get better so that we fans can get to see more competitive matches and avoid seeing 5-0 whitewash :facepalm:

Pak is having good T20 cricketers ..Good luck to them. IPL is awesomely good and don't want to take risk / jeopardize successful IPL for few good Pak players., No Thanks.

Bitter about what? Babar's SR is 120 in T20s. He's primarily an accumulator without the explosive end like Amla. Forget AMla, even someone like Guptill can't find a team in IPL. Tahir has no takers forget Shadab.
