Definitely not India if you take all formats into account. India hasnt been that great in ODIs. I am not talking about just results but players as well. South Africa, Australia, England are ahead of India in LOIs. Overall it's between England and South Africa.
Obviously it's Pakistan...
Obviously India.
1st In Test
3rd in ODI
2nd in T20.
Only team in top 3, in every format.
Purely out of curiosity, do you personally genuinely believe India are the 3rd best ODI and 2nd best t20i team in the world right now?
Lol at people using faulty ICC rankings to justify their reasoning.
SA.
They have beaten Australia in Australia in a test series.
They have beaten India, England, and Australia in ODI series.
No Australia is best team all formats combined
Australia is the worst of all teams outside Australia in tests.
India almost lost to NZ at home in ODIs. Aussies will most likely beat them there. India also are poor in places like Aus and Eng when playing Test matches. SA just beat Aussies in Tests and ODIs convincingly. Also destroyed NZ recently which people forget.Sour grapes.
On topic. Its india and SA at par.
Has to be South Africa. India can't win away from home in both main formats.

How can you say it about ODIs. We won our last series in England in ODIs. We reached semis in Aus WC 2015.... However I agree for SA, but India is not very behind as well...
Just crushed NZ in NZ

Australia, SA, NZ? Lost in both formats. You'd expect better from supposedly by the best overall team.

Except SA, noone has beaten us as well. Neither in tests nor in ODIs.... SA also only did well in ODIs.
It's quite clearly India tbh. Think people are being a bit biased, don't think it's even close if you consider all three formats.
1) India
2) England
3) South Africa
4) Australia
5) New Zealand
6) Pakistan
7) Sri Lanka
8) West Indies
9) Bangladesh
10) Zimbabwe
May fall outside the 2 year period, but they also lost a home series to a very average SL side. Easily the most overrated team in world cricket atm and have made a name for themselves by beating a far than settled SA side.In the test format, here is Eng performance.
Eng at home - last 2 years
Drew 1-1 against NZ
Drew 1-1 against Pakistan
Won 3-2 against Aus
Won 2-0 against SL
Eng away - last 2 years
Drew 1-1 in WI
Drew 1-1 in BD
Lost 0-2 in UAE
Lost 0-4 in Ind
Won 2-1 in SA
So pretty much just one noteworthy performance in the last 2 years in SA. To balance that one good series, Eng has draw at home against NZ and Pakistan at home. On top of that Eng has draw against 8th and 9th ranked team away even if we not talk about Eng performance in UAE and India. Over all a very ordinary performance in the test format in the last 2 years. In ODI, I think they are right on track with new approach and mindset, but I will still give them some time.
Laughable England are even being mentioned here, their Test record is nothing to write on about and have failed in the last ODI WC.
It's between India, Aus and SA for mine, I give the edge to India as they're number 1 in Tests and are always solid in ICC events.
Pakistan are definitely not better than us overall, they were thumped by a weak NZ side in NZ, drew 1-1 in the UAE and are well behind us in LOI's.Looks like England's honeymoon period is over. They are easily behind IND, PAK, SAF & AUS. I know, ENG won last 2 Series against AUS & SAF away; but within next year, scores will be settled. Even in ODI, I need to see what was behind Poms resurgence - I am not sure if it's Bayliss mantra or Azzu's mantra; may be a 3-2 win in IND should prove that they are at least better than Kiwis.
This one is for combined best team - going by results, it has to be IND now. Almost unbeatable at home in Test, quite decent in ODI & more than decent in T20. However, apart from results, it's also true that IND has a series of home matches against 3/4 non Asian sides - they have to do better than their guests away in return series. Before that, I actually will rank IND 3rd, just behind SAF & AUS. These days, everyone is HTB - but Aussies are unbeatable in ODI everywhere (well, almost, that 5-0 is unexplainable - both tams were missing key players) barring IND, they are very good T20 side & equally as tough as IND at home in Test. Overall SAF is the most balanced side, which won a Test Series in AUS, ODI Series in IND & they'll do well in other part of Asia as well, I keep them at top.
After those 3, Poms are behind PAK, probably Kiwis as well. SRL will get hammered by IND in Asia in every format & lose to PAK as well; probably will come 2nd to BD also in home & away head to heads; but they did beat Aussies 3-0 in Test & should do something similar to Poms & Kiwis at home. They won a Test series in UK as well, just about 2 years back (And both teams got robbed in last away ODI head to heads) - so, I can justify putting Poms behind Lanka well; and they are inches ahead of usfor that mad rush in 1st ODI .......... but, this one'll be a bit too much, even for pulling an English leg; Poms are better team than SRL, BD, WI & NZ oblate.

If you ask me this is how I would rate them like so
1. South Africa
2. India
3. Australia
Although I think India and Australia are very close I just gave India the edge since India beat Australia 3-0 in T20's. I don't think Aus can whitewash India in any format in India.
SA fared badly in Bangladesh test as well and was poor on flat wicket of Bangalore (the game that got washed out to save SA from whitewash). But it is understandable.I'd say SA. Beat India in India in both limited over formats. Upon realisation they couldn't compete with SA on normal wickets, they had no option but to doctor them. Which is understandable i suppose.
Destroyed Australia in the ODI's. Once again there were a few inane murmurs of an understrength bowling attack. Across the sea they traveled, met the much vaunted "full strength" bowling attack. The results were no different.
SA is probably the one side that could compete well in all conditions when everyone is fit.
But no team is far and away.
Pakistan are definitely not better than us overall, they were thumped by a weak NZ side in NZ, drew 1-1 in the UAE and are well behind us in LOI's.
India
SA
Australia
----- big drop off
NZ, Pakistan and England
