Might as well ask the question. Modern cricket might be getting a bit too modern these days when guys with zero coaching badges are being made head coaches of National sides like India and Pakistan.

I know the Indians and Pakistanis have both had enough. But which board will blink first and make the right decision?

Shastri's contract expires in about 9 months and I doubt it'll be renewed.

Misbah is here to stay till the 2023 World Cup, I reckon.

Misbah is running the show. Won't be sacked and will leave on his own terms.

Turning out to be quite a huge clown.

Ravi Shastri will get sacked first. For now we will accept these results. Appreciate the hard work that went into the games instead of caring for the result.

Shastri, Indians are generally more educated to read the situation and replace someone better whereas Pakistanis will wait longer with their cultural excuse "Oh Misbah has done so much much for his country" "Misbah ul Haq hamaray liay qabil e ehtram shaks hain unhon ny Pakistan k liay serve kia hai" Emotional fans emotional public and emotional PCB management...:moyo2

Shastri will again be reappointed if India somehow reaches the semi final of the upcoming T20 World Cup.
And him and Misbah both will be kicked out after both india and pakistan's group stage exit from the 2023 WC.

Misbah will get sacked first because his tenure depends on Pakistan cricket teams on field performance.

Ravi Shastri is there not for cricket but to cater personal need of captain and being an yes man. So his position will never be challenged as long as Kohli is captain irrespective of how many matches India lose. And Kohli will remain captain across format till retiement. So in a nutshell Shastri is going nowhere.

PCB can sack Misbah anytime they want irrespective of how Babar Azam feels about him.

No one in BCCI (including Ganguly) has the guts to go against Kohli and sack Shastri. BCCI may boss around with other boards but become scared cats infront of King Kohli.

Shastri may not survive 4-0

Why would Shastri be sacked?

Have Old Monk run out of ingredients?

Ravi 'Vladimir' Shastri is here to stay until the cows come home.

Interesting thread. Both were appointed without any prior coaching experience but, atleast Shastri has got on job training over the years. Shastri had Kohli's backing while Misbah had his own backing I guess. :haider

As Shastri's contract is expiring soon so he has a better chance.

Both teams need either a coach from the system or a qualified foreign coach. Inexperienced coaches have more tendency to falter in the basics.

Neither of them will be sacked especially Shastri when he's got around 9-10 months in his tenure to go.

I think Shastri is held in higher regard at BCCI than Misbah is at PCB.

I know PCB were not impressed with him during the tour of England where he didn't give too many younger players a chance. Subsequently he was told that he would have to choose between Chief Selector or Head Coach role.

India won in Aus without their best player and their captain.

Pak hasn’t won away since the England tour?

Tough one, I think Misbah beats him, by the barest of margins.

Yeah, why Shastri has to go away? Even if India loses next two tests, his position is in no danger given how the side has lost half their best players.

On the other hand, his tactics have been spot on in this series, the leg side attacking was on display right from the tour games and helped Indians to grind down the Aussie batting lineup.

Shastri cannot be blamed for the poor show by batsmen.

Good to see India placing priority on test cricket and not take knee jerk decisions after a loss in ODIs. In world cup too India were largely dominant till they had one poor hour against NZ which did them in, also thanks to weather.

Something catastrophic tonight might put Shastri in the lead...

Sastry is safe, he has enough godfathers. Even if India gets few more 36 all out in this series, he will be untouchable.

Can Mods add Justin Langer to the poll and thread title?

He’s been quite poor in this series with this performance

There is a difference between a proper coach and wanna be coach. Misbah can learn lots of things from Sastri. Regardless people believe or not but Misbah is not even good for school coach let alone national coach of an international team.
You cannot handover a senior managerial post to a person who just finished his study and applied for the job.

Oh really? What did Shastri study? Jumped straight out of an average playing career into the commentary box - droned on for 20 years - then decided to push out Kumble and become coach with his buddy Virat. Very academic!

Shashtri once again proved why he is one of the best managers out there.

He is shepherding a team riddled with injuries and hasn't let it take away the teams focus here. Credit to him.

Coach's role in Indian cricket has always been minimum. Its the captain who runs the team and rightfully so. It was always Ganguly's team, Dhoni's team and now Kohli's team. John Wright, Gary Kirsten, Duncan Fletcher etc. were just assistant to the captain. The only Indian coaches that tried to be the boss i.e Greg Chappel and Anil Kumble got fired immidiately.

I am always a firm believer that captain should be the leader of the team and not the coach. Though I dont like Ravi Shastri one bit but he fits into Indian set up perfectly. Dont mess too much with players, gives them space, few pep talks before the game, pat on the back of players struggling for form ...thats all. Actually thats all is required from international coach TBH. You dont expect coach to hold your hand and teach you how to play bouncers or a pull shot at this level.

What's wrong with Shastri? The win% under him is arguably our best ever

Shastri is not the best coach and India deserves better but even a Shastri hungover on a gallon of old monk has ten times the cricketing IQ of someone like a Misbah or most Pakistani captains in the recent past.

The problem with Shastri is his stubborn attitude towards new ideas and methods imo. The problem with Misbah is that he is equally stubborn but with a much lower cricketing IQ.

Only that that matters is results! India had a great, trained, scientific coach in Greg Chappell. What good did it do? Captain & BCCI have confidence in Shastri, and results support his appointment; then who are we to question?
