Let's discuss who can possibly break Younis Khan's record in this thread and keep the other one specifically for tributes to Younis Khan.

It's no easy feat to attain so it's really hard to say it will happen for sure, but if there was someone I had to pick it would be either Azhar or Babar.

Babar will do it.

Haris would have done it had been selected 6 years ago when he was 21.

I think 2nd pakistani to score 10000 runs will be Azhar Ali if he plays for another 6-7 years

Azhar Ali is most likely the next person to do so but, he seriously needs to improve his batting against spin. The reason Younis had such longevity and run-scoring ability, he played spin well.

The other reason is Younis Khan's fitness and how he kept himself fit and in great physical condition.Azhar himself is fit just like Younis so that isn't a problem.

One of the traits which Azhar has similar to Khan is his thirst for big hundreds, that will also put him in great stead. Azhar looks to go even big after 100 he looks for 150+ unlike Shafiq

Babar Azam most likely. If he plays 125 test matches.

Haris if he plays 100+ test matches which is very unlikely considering his fitness and age.

We don't play enough test cricket so unless things change, it would have to be someone who comes into the team at 19-21 years old and plays non stop for 15+ years.

So yeah, nobody will do it.

The issue is that we dont play enough Test Cricket. It took YK 17 years to get there. in 08 YKs peak we didnt play Test Cricket. YK has also missed quite a few series due to family bereavement and also suspensions or he would have got to 10K a couple of years go.

An English or Aussie player will reach 100 Tests after 10 years as a Test Cricketer. They play 7 Home Tests every summer and at least 5 away Tests a year. And they have a bigger chance to get 10k.

We play maybe 8 tests a year. would take our players 12-13 years to get 10k thats if they didnt get any injuries or dropped during that time.

Azhar Ali can maybe do it.

I don't see anyone. For someone to score 10k runs, he needs to play for 10 years minimum and 13-14 if he is fit. Let us take Babar's case for example

He is 23 and has played 6 tests and scored 300 odd runs..

If he manages a career average of 50, then for him to score 10,000 runs, he would have to play 10,000/50 = 200 innings, which amounts to minimum 100 tests.

Pakistan would have to play 10 tests every year for the next 10 years for him to achieve that.

Considering the way international calendar is packed these days with mickey mouse leagues and T20 ,tournaments, 10 tests per year looks really difficult.

Plus, he would have to take into account, fitness, loss of form etc etc.

According to me, any non-english player who has debuted after 2012, would find it difficult to score 10k runs. Not impossible, but difficult.

A lot depends on number of matches played by Pakistan in one year. If they keep playing 10 or less matches then it would be very difficult for the next generation otherwise Azhar Ali can do this. Babar Azam is too young and can achieve this milestone if played more than 100 tests.

Only Babar Azam.

Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq are the same age as Alastair Cook, who will retire within a year. Mickey will only give them each 2 more years.

Mickey most likely will not be around by then. Plus Younis and Misbah are playing in their 40's. Provided Azhar keeps fit, he can do it
