A lot has happened since the Pakistan squad was first announced and seems that the focus seems less on the series but on the personnel changes!

So lets get back our attention to the series and see what XI Pakistan can play given the addition of 3 more players to the squad

Pakistan wins when it has no other choice but to win.

England thrashing means that they have to win at all cost.

Still can’t believe we have picked 19 players for a 2 tests series and also have Zahid Mehmood in the squad.

They had no choice but to win the 2nd test vs England, still lost.

We’ll probably win though but it’s because NZ is weaker than England by quite a bit.

NZ is at its weakest right now. Ranked #8 on the WTC table. Pakistan should win this one

Babar Azam at presser:

“We haven’t finalised the playing XI. We will do that after discussion with the chief selector [Shahid Afridi], who will meet us today. We will try to select the best possible XI"

“Pitch looks good. I think we can say that it is similar to the ones in Australia. As you know, here [in Karachi] the behaviour of the pitch changes every day,”

“Yes, we had a discussion on it [inclusion of three additional players]. Obviously, they have their own mindset. I gave them my opinion and, in the end, we did what was best for our side"

“I accept that we didn’t play good cricket at times. There were things that we should have executed in a better manner but we couldn’t do that,”

"I feel no pressure because pressure brings your game down. I'm a confident captain and I have confidence in my players. We will try our best to make a comeback in the series, since it is a new day and a new team"

“A lot has been changed in the last three to four days, but as a professional, you’ve to face these things"

“Our job is to put our efforts in the field - These are off-field developments while our sole focus is on the ground”

Tim Southee speaking to the press:

“For us as foreign teams, the sub-continent is so foreign to us and I think England played an incredible style of cricket to come over here and win three Test matches. The way they did was very impressive, but the way they've been playing it seems to be working for them"

“We will be trying to look for ways that have worked for us as a side and hopefully we can put on a performance that that works for our side,"

“I think England played some pretty special cricket in this series, Pakistan is a very good side, as they have shown for a long time, especially in these conditions. We're looking forward to the challenge. It's a new series and I’m sure, Pakistan would be looking to bounce back after a tough series against England"

“I think when you come to this part of the world, you tend to think that spinners will have more of an impact than seam but as England showed that there's still place for the pace bowlers as well"

“Ajaz [Patel] has been around the Test group for a while. Obviously, in New Zealand, it's tough to force his way in the conditions that we played at but he's been a real treat for us when we've come to this part of the world. So, he'll be looking forward to getting back playing Test cricket and playing in these conditions, which he's done well, and it's a great opportunity for Ish Sodhi to come back. I'm excited to see what he's going to bring to the side"

I’m assuming the Karachi pitch is going to resemble a hard and bouncy Oz pitch with some movement? Although not all Australian pitches are the same

Lets hope the wicket has bounce and breaks up and is abrassive and takes turn and also allows for reverse swing.

Might be a momenuntm swing now Afridi has that effect on Pakistan. If we bowl well can win 2-0.

New Zealand will win or it will be drawn tests.

Pakistan does not have the bowling to bowl New Zealnd out twice, even if they somehow conjure up a bowling attack, I just dont think they will pick the right one.

Well, that all depends on Babar actually humbling himself and handing over the reigns to Afridi/Razzaq to pick the XI

NZ complete final practice ahead of the 1st Test

Get them with reverse swing - get hassan ali in and get them with spin -Abrar should be too hot for NZ to handle.
NZ have a new captain and am not sure Tim southee is that good a tactitian , that in itself is a massive disadvantage to start off with

Babar the real power man, got rid of Rameez and Wasim let's see, lot of changes in squad as well

Probable 11

Imam
Shafiq
Shan
Babar
Rizwan
Saud
Sarfraz
Sajid
Hamza
HassanAli
Abrar

The likely XI to start Deigo Armendo Afridi's reign

Lets see if there is any changes to the pitch quality ie leave a little more grass on. Because if its the same as against Eng, and we lose the toss, we are in trouble. Ayaz Patel is a better spinner than anyone we have unless the Abrar mystery continues

As long as we keep it simple, I recon we will be fine

Just pick your best domestic performers because that way you have given yourself the best opportunity

Hamza
Abbas
Kamran
Sarfaraz

These 4 should be in the side. Whoever you want to replace them with is up to you

New Zealand are no England. There's no Bazball.

I think Pakistan should win.

Ajaz Patel is a good bowler

I see that the off spinner who bowled well in the tri series is also in the squad

Glenn Phillips is the Harry Brook of NZ

Yeah. Kiwi spinners are okay. I was talking about their batters.

New Zealand are likely to bat in traditional manner. No Bazball. It can allow Pakistani bowlers to attack better.

Depending on how flat the pitch is, it will either be a draw or NZ win.

NZ is too seasoned a side to throw wkts away to likes of Abrar and rest of Pak's bowling can't take 20 wkts cheaper than NZ

Inspite of getting bazballed by England, Pakistan will once again start on equal footing or as favorites against NZ. It comes down to how well NZ negotiates Abrar.

This picture - wonder why both look so worried!?

Pakistan will win the series 1-0. England's attacking approach makes it hard to adapt to their style. But New Zealand play more conventional cricket and Pakistan have home advantage

If I were in NZ camp would try my best to emulate England method with available resources as much as possible, because on these flat roads vs this third grade Pak bowling any half decent Batting unit can maintain minimum 5 rpo without much fuss. Robot captains like Babar won't change anything, and it should be cake walk for NZ. only their timid approach can allow this Pak team to dictate terms.

Nz can set the tempo of whole series in just 6 deliveries, attack for an over and Pak will be on ultra defensive for next possible 899 overs, simple as that

I don't think the Kiwis have the resources to play the same style of cricket as England. Stranger things have happened especially recently, but I wouldn't bet on them winning a test.

Pakistan should be heavy favourites to win this. 1.5 years ago NZ had better versions of Southee, Wagner and Boult and had Kyle Jamieson in the lineup as well.

Now those guys are either absent or have aged and KW is in horrible form.

NZ should be thrashed into submission.

Good attempt to JinX

NZ drew 1-1 in Lanka and that was a couple of years ago when they were stronger. Since WTC final, they haven't managed to beat BD in a home series.

If Pakistan lose this home series to NZ, PAK should just quit Test cricket.

Bhai we are already at our worst i think in test history at home, i know test series loss vs Zim and all that but we all know there were more out of the field reason for that, we lost 2 damn test ever vs England at home, and last month lost 3-0 a first eve clean sweep in test series, now all bets are off, with current team even a minnow team would fancy their chances, that's how rubbish this team is overall, more than talent they lack heart and never say die attitude, and these fate pitches are cherry on top.

Rumours that Sarfaraz and Mir Hamza in tomorrow's XI - Wonder if these 2 can turn things around for Pakistan.

Why are Imam and Shan being preferred over Kamran? They are inferior batsman to him!

Pakistan well placed at the moment - another 150+ runs and they will become firm favourites

Pendulum swinging NZ way if they take a 100+ lead tomorrow

NZ should aim to bat for 5 sessions from hereon. No demons in pitch and NZ doesn't play bazball so chances of collapse are low.

Don't be surprised if Pakistan lose by an innings

We have seen it happen so many times. I wouldn't be surprised if NZ pile on another 150 odd runs with the tail wagging.

Then Pakistan will be under the pump from ball one, and I can already see Ajaz Patel and Co running circles around our batsmen.

Don't be surprised by what unfolds before your eyes tomorrow.

Match slipped away from Pakistan now - only positive will be a draw now

This team does not deserve to get away with a draw. New Zealand thoroughly deserve to win this test match.
