Lot riding on this match and could well spell trouble for either if they lose.

I expect India to win this but could NZ spring a surprise?

Experienced opener Martin Guptill has been rendered a doubtful starter for New Zealand's Super 12 match against India on Sunday after he suffered a toe injury during their clash against Pakistan in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Guptill hurt his toe after being hit by a Haris Rauf delivery during his side's five-wicket loss to Pakistan here on Tuesday night. New Zealand head coach Gary Stead said Guptill, who scored 17 runs from 20 balls before being cleaned up by Rauf, was not feeling comfortable after the match.

"Guptill was looking in a little bit of discomfort at the end of the match and the next 24 to 48 hours will be decisive," Stead told reporters after the match.

"We'll see how he scrubs up overnight. He looked in a little bit of discomfort at the end of the game and it might take 24 to 48 hours to see how he goes."

If Guptill is ruled out of the India clash, it will be a big blow for the Kiwis, who had lost their pace spearhead Lockie Ferguson before the Pakistan match due to a calf muscle injury.

New Zealand named Adam Milne as replacement of Ferguson, who has been ruled out of the tournament, in the squad.

Playing their first match of the tournament, New Zealand were restricted to 134 for 8 after being invited to bat and Pakistan chased down the small target in 18.4 overs to claim their second win in as many matches.

The win placed Pakistan on top of the Group 2 points table and Stead feels New Zealand's next match against India in Dubai on Sunday will be crucial if the team has to qualify for the semifinals.

"You would imagine that Pakistan are now the hot favourites in our group to be the number one seed and the rest of us are fighting it out for the next spot, which makes the India game pretty critical," said the coach.

"You sometimes have to lose one to find out the important things for you. If we can go and beat India then we certainly put ourselves back on the right track."

New Zealand will win and I'm not saying this to jinx NZL or anything, I genuinely belive NZL will win and we are in for an early exit from the tournament.

NZ have a very one dimensional batting this tournament. Neesham is probably the only who can go after bowling from ball 1 but even he isn't that polished. All of their guys need time to settle in. Grandhomme could have been very useful on these pitches as Weise has shown so far but NZ instead chose the likes of Chapman or Mitchell. Ross Taylor could have also been very good on these pitches with his power slogs something Chapman, Seifert, Mitchell and probably Conway lack. Conway and Seifert both are playing out of their positions. Phillips is the only dynamic batter in the team apart from Guptill who's been in awful form of late.

I hope India loses this!! Only way we can get rid of kohlis captaincy...
Most of the matches we lose because of his wrong selections!

The soon he goes the better...

india are usually a different animal when there backs are against the wall, defo expect them to bounce back

If NZ use some common sense and fix their batting lineup, they are favourites for the encounter.

Their bowling clicked against Pakistan, and their fielding has shown why they are a danger.

India vs New Zealand is happening at Dubai International Stadium, meaning that the batting lineups could be strong but it will ultimately be the bowling that wins the game.

For India, I'd play the following team:

Ishan Kishan
Rohit Sharma
Virat Kohli
KL Rahul
Suryakumar Yadav
Rishabh Pant
Shardul Thakur
Ravichandran Ashwin
Rahul Chahar
Jasprit Bumrah
Mohammad Shami

NZ has plenty of LHB for Ashwin to exploit, and Rahul Chahar is there because NZ struggle to play leg-spinners.

For NZ, their lineup should be:

Martin Guptill
Devon Conway
Kane Williamson
Glenn Phillips
Tim Seifert
Daryl Mitchell
Jimmy Neesham
Ish Sodhi
Tod Astle
Trent Boult
Adam Milne

They have plenty of bowling options, so their spinners should be attacking options in my opinion.

This will be a good match to watch, because New Zealand under pressure hardly crack.

Hopefully India win so we can beat them again in the final.

INDIAAAAAAAAA INDIA!!!

On the other hand, it would be interesting to see what ICC does if India doesn’t make it to the SF.

Will they increase the next WT20 to 3 teams qualifying and included QF’s?

Will they now make sure India and Pakistan aren’t in the same group?

Maybe give India 3 reviews and other teams 2 reviews😜

The fixtures for India and NZ (and Pakistan though they have virtually qualified) are such that they are in for an early QF/Exit. Unless Afghanistan steps up and bring something to table, this group is actually the group of death. India/NZ would have preferred the other group where there's better chance of having more combinations of wins/losses between teams so the interest would be stayed till the end of the league!

In fact the other group is such that each team is capable of beating the other team on a given day! (All 6 teams have attained test status long back! Sri Lanka & Bangladesh are a good force on slow pitches!) I wonder how there is such huge imbalance in parity between these groups & how it ended this way! After this match (NZ vs India) all the remaining matches of these two teams are dead rubbers regardless of whether they win/qualify or not!

Please knock us out, New Zealand.

Let everybody see the reality of the IPL.

IPL is not the reason for this! Let the captaincy & head coach change, you will see the difference...

How is IPL not to blame?

The players are mentally fatigued, how do you expect them to basically carry on like this for the next 6 games? They have to win every game from here on to win the World Cup, which is the least expected thing considering they are hosting and also the most acclimatised due to the IPL being in Dubai

IPL certainly deserves the blame -- the fatigue caused by playing so many games, so close to the world cup (even at the cost of the fifth test against Eng, some may say) is clearly visible.

But the team management ignored the standout performers of IPL (Chahal, Venkatesh Iyer, Ruturaj Gaekwad, Avesh Khan etc) and went ahead with out-of form players (Bhuvi, Pandya, Rahul Chahar etc).

So the team management (Kohli, Shastri, Dhoni, Selectors) also share the blame because of poor selections and poor strategies against Pakistan (no answer to Shaheen, bowling on leg-stump to Rizwan, Bumrah bowling only 1 over in first 10 overs, etc).

I voted Pakistan as the winner of the last India vs Pakistan match poll correctly, and as much as I hate to say it, I have a feeling this is going to be one of those nightmare world cups like 2007 and we'll get booted out of the group stages.

It's strange because I thought we actually had a pretty good team heading into the tournament. Fast bowling is a bit light and spin attack is inexperienced in the world stage, but I thought our batting was strong after a long time. In contrast, I thought we went in with a garbage team to the 2019 world cup and deserved our semifinal exit. Perhaps, the players feel burnt out after shuttling from bubble to bubble, in Australia, India, England, immediately to UAE in the IPL and then immediately to world cup. It's unbelievable how much cricket the Indian cricketers play because I checke the schedule, and immediately after the World T20, they head to India to play the Kiwis in T20, ODI and Test series and then probably leave for South Africa to play the test series.

The year long non stop bubble cricket has perhaps taken a toll on the players but on the positive side, a group stage exit would heavily increase the chances of Rohit leading India in the home world cup in 2023 as the Mumbai lobby would starts its work, and it is a cause I support the Mumbai lobby for once.

I don’t think the Afghans should be underestimated but they shouldn’t be overestimated either.

They are the ones who are under pressure knowing Pakistan has won its two big games and the match between them and Pakistan is not in Sharjah, a ground they would prefer.

Dubai is not going to suit their 1-2 good hitters

I think NZ will win and it may not be bad for India because they will get a wake up call about the reality of T20 leagues and can fix their team for the 2023 world cup.

Very interseting match it's 50-50 game both teams loose their first game so they will come back hard.

I have a feeling NZ will edge this.

Also hope the same. Don't want to meet India again. The happiness could be very short lived.

I agree with street this has 2007 written all over it… the body language of players is just not right.

Rooting for NZ but I do not see India losing this one. The Indian side is far too talented to lose to NZ who has looked quite ordinary till this point.

We will win need to replace Kishan in place of Hardik and Shardul in place of Bhuvneshwar kumar. Hardik has been poor for long time now and also at international stages his impact performances when it mattered have been close to nil

New Zealand are the better team

They have better bowlers, but India has better batsmen. I would pick India personally, I think they were caught on the hop by Afridi's extravagant swing with the new ball. Will be close though, as both teams are excellent sides in this tournament.

India of course.

NZ are not the nice guys for Pakistanis anymore.

That's like a Man Utd fan saying they'd cheer for Arsenal against West Ham, or a Yankees fan saying they'd cheer for the Red Sox against the Blue Jays or a Scot saying they'd cheer for England against Spain. Never in a million years should a Pakistani cheer for the rival team and it's not personal, just the principle of rivalries. :afridi

If NZ beat India, that means that NZ, India and Pakistan will have all played against each other, and if NZ and Pakistan win there remaining matches, then Pak and NZ will go through.

It will be decided based on boundary count assuming that the rule has been removed by ICC only for ODIs and they forgot to do it for T20s.

Going by the games against Pakistan each team has played New Zealand seems to have the better bowling attack which is why I would say they look the better team for these conditions. Despite the IPL India have selected a line up which has a relatively long tail which to me is a big disadvantage for them

India vs Pakistan Final is on the card. NewZeland will win the Sunday game than Afghanistan will beat the NeaZeland, India will qualify on run rate.

I don't think they are overrated on these pitches.

They can beat any team if pitch is assisting the spinners.

I think we are forgetting that Afghanistan batsmen will also be facing the same spinners from the opposition team.

Last time I checked the Afghan batting line up didnt contain any Haydens, Babars or Rohits of this world.

Its all well and good when you smash & bash Scotland, Namibia or an unmotivated WI bowling attack. Its a complete story when you face a quality opponent.

Bangladesh has been shown their true worth at a world stage in this tournament. Afghanistan will be also be shown a mirror soon.

whoever bowls first wins the match...that has been the trend so far in this edition.

India need to make a few changes. The team against Pakistan just didn't look right. Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar will struggle again unless they have the right conditions. Hardik Pandya is another one they need to make a decision on. NZ batting looks weak though.

If NZ win, it will mean they have eliminated India from the ODI WC 2019, World Test Championship 2021 and WT20 2021 .. those are the pinnacle of the three different formats.

Kiwis are clearly India's bogey team

nz bowling attack is very orthodox, they need to win the toss and chase. india whilst a bit more varied is pretty much orthodox too.

also need to select jamieson, southee or boult are not very penetrative in these slow conditions if the ball isnt swinging.

Can't see India losing this. NZ are pretty average in these conditions.

Don’t forget Afghanistan - they are perfectly capable of beating India or NZ or both :)

Just saw this article on espncricinfo.."Hardik Pandya: 'When I walk in, I always feel I have an aura'"

I hope Hardik is selected again and his ego is ground to dust. :wy

Very confusing, who won and who lost?

With an aim to end their winless run against New Zealand in T20 World Cups, India will face the Black Caps in their 2nd fixture on Sunday (October 31). Both the teams lost their respective opening matches, against Pakistan. Both India and New Zealand failed to defend the targets to kick off the tournament on a disappointing note.

The losing team of the fixture will have a tough road going ahead. Ahead of the all-important fixture, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has suggested two changes in Team India's playing XI for the all-important tie.

Speaking to Sports Tak, Gavaskar has asked for Ishan Kishan's inclusion in the playing XI if Hardik Pandya continues to stay away from bowling. Apart from that, he has also asked for 'thinking' of Shardul Thakur.

“If Hardik Pandya is not bowling – due to that shoulder injury he sustained in the match against Pakistan – Ishan Kishan has been in brilliant form so I will surely consider him ahead of Pandya. And perhaps, you can think of Shardul Thakur in place of Bhuvneshwar Kumar. But otherwise, if you make too many changes, then you will show the opposition that you have panicked,” the India legend told Sports Tak.

It is to be noted that Pandya bowled on Thursday evening and this could be an indication that he might bowl soon. Though there is no confirmation regarding it. As for Ishan, he has been selected as a reserve opener and the chances of him batting in the middle-order are bleak.

Talking of Bhuvneshwar, he went for 25 runs and couldn't take a wicket in India's first fixture. It remains to be seen if the team management makes a change and ropes in Shardul Thakur or not. The bowling all-rounder replaced Axar Patel in the original squad.

Despite the defeat, Team India isn't expected to make many changes in the playing XI and an unchanged XI could also be on the cards. The match will be played in Dubai.

Wish India wins it, but on the other hand, India definitely deserves to lose the match, & be booted out of the tourney.

Since murmurs about Hardik Pandya's selection have been doing the rounds, Kaptaan brainless shall now force him to bowl, & use it as an excuse to select Pandya over Kishan :facepalm

Backing India to smash kiwis. Send them back to NZL and show their real aukaat, that in these conditions we are the master of urs. Sharma and Pants will hammer them. Be ready Indian fans win is on the way.

You are all missing the bigger picture over here.

The question is not that who will win the game, the real question is who will win the toss.

And knowing Kohli's luck in toss...
All Indian supporter here, should be more concern about that only.
