As I know there are a lot of tech oriented guys on this forum, I was wondering what are the better SSDs out there? Price under 200 bucks, capacity 128 to 256 GB (I have 1 TB cloud storage from uni so don't need more). This is to install on my laptop so all the files will be on it, except what is stored on the cloud.

I have heard the Crucial MX200 is good but I have never used this brand so I can't be sure.

Samsung.

EVO would do, pro isn't needed. Change your computing life forever.

Crucial and Intel are also decent, but Samsung is the king in terms of reliability as well as performance.

Best investment i ever made . Laptop is blazing fast . Get Samsung Evo or intel.

You're right. HDDs are stone age now. Plus SSDs give a huuuge performance boost.

HDDs are awesome for storing media. You don't need the extra speed for videos and picture. They're significantly cheaper than SSD. Most people I know have a setup where their SSD is the primary disk whereas the HDD (usually 2TB+) is the secondary disk.

As for which disk to go for, I'd suggest Samsung EVO 850. It's probably the best consumer grade SSD. There's also the Samsung EVO Pro but it's more of an enterprise grade SSD even though consumers can buy it.

Depends on what your requirements are. If you need 2 TB space and HAVE to stash your stuff in there, then you can go with HDD for just storage.

why you think you need a SSD?

why you think you need a SSD?

My laptop is getting slower and I thought it may due to the drive being old (as I have an i7 8GB RAM, non-upgradable as the RAM is soldered on).

However, I have looked around and apparently only one type of SSD can be installed in it (Samsung Pro 950 M2 PCe). The one I have right now is called samsung mzntd128hagm (from the system menu). What kind is that?

Anyways, not sure whether I need one or not, I'm not really familiar with this stuff.

Mechanical hard drive died :( (I didn't have a backup ) so took the opportunity to upgrade to a SSD.

PNY CS900 - Not the fastest one out there but got it at a good price. So much better than a mechanical HDD.
