If asked to mention one team whom you think is going with the favourites tag as far as WC is concerned, then who it will be? One team you would be ready to bet on?

My bet will be on India. No bias here but I just feel given the performance and skill-set Indian team and their bowling in particular has, I think India will go with the favourites tag. Kohli, Rohit, Dhawan, Bumrah, Kuldeep are serious threats to any opposition today.

England are close but inability to win any major 50-tournment till now makes me doubt on their success in semis or final.

Might have gone with Pakistan but India is that one team who can beat Pakistan anywhere, any day, no matter how bigger is the stage.

So, mention one team whom you gonna bet for as far as WC' 19 is concerned? Discuss!

If England don't win it this time around, it will be considered an upset.

India are too flawed to be winning this time IMO. Score 300, get us to 100/3 even, and then it's game over.

India.. don't think there'll be many 300 scores in upcoming WC, bowlers gonna rule that world cup :akhtar..

England might be the best team, but they're not ahead by much. It certainly wouldn't be an upset if they didn't win, we're not talking about 00s Australia here. They even lost to Scotland and Sri Lanka recently.

If we somehow get sharjeel back in the team asap i think we will definitely be strong favorites to win 2019 WC we just lack a strong opener who can partner fakhar otherwise our team is complete..
Fakhar
Sharjeel
Babar
Sarfraz
Malik
Hafeez
Shadab
Faheem
Hasan
Amir
Shaheen
Bench:
Junaid
Imad
Haris
Asif ali
Shinwari/Abbas
This is the squad which i feel can give us hope.. Changes in the final eleven can be made according to pitch conditions and form of players.. This squad has allrounders fast and spin plus Good FAst bowlers just need amir and hasan to be back to their best and regain form and also good enough batting in the squad at the stop sharjeel to go all guns blazing and fakhar to rotate strike and play his normal game and he will not fell under pressure once there is sharjeel as his partner.. These two will allow middle to bat easily in middle overs without taking any risk just rotate strike, the likes of sarfraz, malik, babar can rotate strike in middle part and hafeez at NO.6 to give finishing touch and if fails to do so then we can get asif ali at no.6 to finish the good work done by openers and middle order also faheem can give some lusty blows at the end.. so all in all a perfect combination and well balanced side for the big event like World cup.. I think this squad could be the closest to the 1999 WC squad in terms of combination only not quality which was near perfect with all basis covered and team full of legends and superstars..

World cup is different game altogether and a lot of factors count. however, on paper India & England have better chance of winning this time. Pakistan & Australia also have potential of winning but less likely than India/England.

How many matches did Sharjeel win for Pakistan before his ban? I still don't understand why PPers are going gaga over an unfit hack. When best Pak players like FZ and Babar are struggling to score consistently, how would this Sharjeel who didn't play cricket for more than an year would set the stage on fire? Looks like anybody who's not playing in Pak current team is a Match Winner! He's just an unfit version of Asif Ali and I saw enough of skills during WT2016 and Asia Cup 2016. Top teams would love to bowl to hack like him anyday!

Well the great Aussie team lost to Bangladesh once. And got whitewashed by NZ before winning a third consecutive World Cup.

England are in red hot form - unless they get stuck up on a below-par pitch like the one in the CT 2017, I'm backing them.

Varun England bowling is average,u can't compare current English team with 2003 Australian team, that team had best bowler & batsman.

I guess you did not saw him in Australia.

The thread would have been interesting to follow for the next few months had people stuck to what was asked by OP - name ONE team. The essay writing contest has ensured this thread would be like 10s others.

If it isn't obvious enough already, my one team is = England.

To each their own.

England without a shadow of doubt. India a distant second, and the rest will need a few magical games to get their hands on the trophy.

Essay writing is fine as long as posters clearly choose that one team as well.

See his improvement under Mickey Arthur he was expanding his game in every side of the wicket and was looking much solid in technique than the previous one which he had. Just Watch or google his scores on England and Aussie tour he scored 3 fifties against Aussies in 5 odis against Starc, hazlewood and co.

Lol England will never win the odi world cup. They just don't have it in them to win a 50 over world cup, regardless of where it is being played. They'll likely be beaten by Pakistan and/or India. I'd genuinely be really shocked if England makes it to the final.

India are a batting powerhouse, their top 3/4 will win them games over 90% of the time. They should be in the finals, and funnily enough the only team that could beat them in English conditions, in a semi final or final could be Pakistan.

In this order, as it stands:

England - strong favs, home advantage.
India - proven winners, also strong favs.
New Zealand - Black Horse, every aspect of team covered, usually always reach Semis.
Pakistan - Usually turn up in England. Team is settled for once. Good bowlers. Need Ramadan luck.
South Africa - Good team but has been carrying the chokers tag. Also ABdV is gone. Amla on decline.
Australia - Will be very difficult without Smith and Warner.
West Indies - Will surprise many teams, but they aren't quite there yet IMO.
Bangladesh - Only good in Asian conditions. Might upset a big team in a game.
Afghanistan - Turning out to be a good team, English conditions are a whole new challenge though.
Sri Lanka - Completely down and out rn

England.

Quality wise, this WC could be very poor since except England, every other team is the poorest in their recent histories.

Its going to be a very open world cup. Unlike other recent editions, this one will give all the teams ample opportunities to come back from early losses since all teams will get 9 games each. So overall the most consistent four teams will make it.. this will be more of a marathon than a hundred meter sprint.

India, England, NZ and SA would be my top four.

No real favourites this time around.

India has a good chance though because they have got almost all bases covered apart from their middle order.

Quality top order.
Quality pacers.
Quality spinners.
Quality lower order hitter in Pandya.
Quality fielders.

Apart from a settled middle order they have everything.

England dont have a bowling attack.

South Africa dont have a reliable batting line up especially under pressure.

Australia are struggling overall.

Bangladesh has a decent team overall but dont look like their talent is enough to challenge higher ranked teams.

Westindies are strangely becoming stronger now but their batsmen are succeptible against spin.

New Zealand also have a good chance this time around but i dont know why their team doesnt inspire confidence. Its like you feel that their batsmen will always fall short.

Srilanka arent good enough. Sorry to say. They have bigger problems than even the world cup. Their struggle is for survival at the moment. Ridiculously short of talent these days.

And finally, you cant really say anything about Pakistan. They have some good players, some mediocre players, combination issues, non performing captain etc. But history advises you against making any predictions regarding Pakistan.

Right now its India. England's bowling is too weak. Pakistan can be considered favourites if we manage to get rid of deadwood before the world cup.

All I know is that the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup is not “coming home”.

With that being said, either India, West Indies, or Pakistan can pull it off.

Very hard to say. England will and should top the group stage as the majority of the pitches should be flat and that suits them more than any other team. However, like we saw in the Champions trophy semi final, one pitch that is not flat and they could look hopeless in a knockout match.

This time format is different its not easy peaking at right time will be crucial every team plays everyone once upsets are on the cards so not easy to predict i think it will not be England nor India not Pakistan even New Zealand may be.

It depends. This World Cup, unlike the 1999 World Cup which had 17 venues for 41 matches, has only 11 venues for 48 matches. Multiple matches on the same venues and sometimes just 2-3 days apart as well. Even the 1st semifinal between qualifier 1 and qualifier 4 will be on a pitch that would have been used just 2 days previously. If England just happen to meet a team like Pakistan on such a wicket....

India are favourites with their star players all being in the prime of their careers. However, I'm looking forward to them choking in humiliating fashion in the semi-finals.

Won't they likely use different pitches for each game? This is the World Cup, after all. No one wants to see a World Cup match played on a used, lifeless wicket.

The very reason Pak beat Eng in CT semi finals was bcoz it was played on used slow pitch. So you should thank your stars...else CT had Eng written all over it :)

If only the final was also played on a used, slow pitch. :(

I can't say for sure. But there's a good chance that we will see used wickets in the latter part of the tournament especially at venues like Trentbridge. Should favour SC teams more and favour england's batting lineup less i reckon.

I'm a little skeptical about our chances this time around. And that's mostly due to our fragile middle order. Anyways, if not us, I'd like to see England or South Africa win it.

Pakistan hardly reached quaterfinal last time and you are calling it world champion lol
Australia is world champion
India is asia champion as it won asia cup twice in a row

But Pakistan won the champions trophy. Which is a WC but better as it doesn't welcome trash.

:sa

Favourites are England.
2nd favourite next to england is India.
South Africa and Australia are dark horses.
India won't win due to middle order,so goal is semis and keeping the streak vs pak.
As long as Australia and Pakistan doesnt win i'll be happy with whoever plays best.Any of NZ,ENG,SA will do if India cant win it.

India are favourites with their top 3 + Bumrah and Kuldeep. England will crumble under the pressure of a semi or a final and their pace attack isn't all that.

Pakistan.

Our batsman just have to show up! The bowlers will do the rest.

Amir, Shaheen, Hasan, Abbas, JK, Shinwari
^ They should be able to defend/restrict to 250~280ish. And I believe we can do it 💪

Looks like we will have a new champ this time around, not England though, as except for India no host has ever won the cup, -so odds are against the strongest team England, it is going to be South Africa!

Australia won WC in Australia in 2015.

India.

England, Australia and potentially New Zealand are the only other teams that there competing with the for the Cup.
