Look, I'm not trying to discriminate here. I'm pretty sure we all consider them the same. Any child is a gift from God, and we don't have the right to discriminate between them. I understand that.

However my question is different. How about someone puts a gun on to your temple and ask you to pick one? What would be your choice?

Wanted a boy.

Got a girl.

I could not have been more wrong about wanting a male. My little girl is the best thing i have in this world. HE indeed knows what is best for you.

I can only judge based on my experience with little cousins, and it makes the choice easy. I would choose a girl.

If I could magically skip the entire baby phase and go straight to a 4 year old I'd pick a boy.

Else I dunno, I freakin hate babies

Haha ... why?

Screaming, crying, noisy, can't communicate etc

No sound worse than a baby crying, when I was at my old job in a supermarket and I could hear one absolutely wailing like an ambulance somewhere in the store my first reaction is always to want to throw the thing away lmao.

Hate holding them too, also hate how people say babies look like their parents. Eh no, all babies look identical, by saying that you're actually insulting the damn parents looks lol.

In short, not a baby guy. Don't mind toddlers or children because at the very least they can communicate.

I'll tell them to pull the trigger.

I have both, girl and boy. On neither occasion did we even once think about wanting it to be a boy or girl. On both occasions our only desire was for the expected newborn to be healthy. We even refused the option prior to birth of knowing whether it was to be a boy or a girl.

Same here.

However, raising girls in today's society is a tough ask for Muslim parents!

What's your motive for starting this thread? Not accusing you personally, but is it due to the propensity of many Indian couples to abort the foetus if the expected newborn is a female?

This is not just in India, but the practice has been carried to the West by those with Indian roots.

TORONTO — Indian-born women in Canada with two or more children give birth to a higher than expected number of boys, suggesting sex-selective abortion may be driving the gender imbalance within this immigrant population, researchers say.

The skewed boy-girl birth ratio has existed for at least two decades and can be seen across the country, according to an analysis of Statistics Canada data published Monday in the journal CMAJ Open.

"The national paper looks at the magnitude of the issue over time and across Canadian provinces," said Marcelo Urquia, an epidemiologist at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto. He led the study and a companion investigation using Ontario data that delved into the possible reasons why the male-dominated gender imbalance exists.

That second study, published Monday in the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ), shows that in most of the world, 103 to 107 boys are born for every 100 girls. The gender split was consistent among Canadian-born women in Ontario, who gave birth between 1993 and 2012 to about 105 boys for every 100 girls.

However, Indian-born women who had immigrated to Canada and already had two children gave birth to 138 baby boys for every 100 girls. If they already had three children, they gave birth to 166 boys for every 100 girls.

Other findings from the study:

— The sex ratio rose to 326 boys for every 100 girls for Indian-born mothers with two daughters who had an abortion preceding the third birth.

— It rose to 409 boys for every 100 girls for mothers who had more than one abortion.

— And it rose to 663 boys for every 100 girls for mothers who had at least one abortion after 14 weeks' gestation.

[....]

'Missing' daughters of Indian immigrants

Urquia and his co-authors estimate there are 4,472 "missing" daughters of Indian immigrants to Canada over the last two decades, largely among couples of two Indian-born parents but also among couples that have one Canadian-born parent

Was about to ask the same as there is this impression.

A healthy, normal child with no birth defects.

Male or female is irrelevant. They are both equally important.

Same here.

However, raising girls in today's society is a tough ask for Muslim parents!
Just to add:

My daughter prefers to confide in me about everything ... her friends, school work, etc.
Whilst my son prefers to confide in his mother.

Now that's not exactly consistent with Muslim parents! :))

You are lucky - my children only confide with their mum; They tell me I dont take anything seriously!

I want 3 kids total
2 boys and 1 girl
Want first child to be a girl, so she is saved from 'rohab' of her brothers.

Just be happy and thankful that you have a healthy child.

I have two girls and a boy and i wouldn't want it any other way.

From experience I would say that as a first time parent, girls are much easier introduction to parenthood than boys.

I am not even close to that moment in my life so to even get there safely will be a huge blessing from God. If I do manage to have a baby with my future wife, then I would hope he/she is healthy and strong. I don't care if the baby is a boy or a girl.

I don't ever intend to have a child. Not really fond of children, but if I must choose, I've always preferred girls. Would like to raise a strong, independent woman who could think and choose for herself.

Personally I'd just want a healthy baby. Tbh I have a bit of bias and would love to have girls (yes more than one :)) ).

But in India definitely male child is considered to be a blessing while female child responsibility. Probably the next generation will not look at girl child the way current and previous gen do.

Anyway, I'd just like to share this conversation I had with my cousin who is now in his 30s, it was on marriage and I was of the view that age is not important but he told me had a very good reason to suggest age plays a big role in how successful a marriage is, I was intrigued so I entertained him. And then he said something that just made me want to bash his skull (and I am a really peaceful guy by nature, really)

So If you get angry easily, don't read ahead. So his reason was, if you marry when you are young, say 23-24, you get a girl that is 18-19. Which is a "ripe" age for marriage for a girl. (He just started but I was about to lose it, but just to see where he was going with it, I asked him, what do you mean by that?) He said that girls who just pass out of school haven't seen the world, they aren't exposed to all that is out there, they are a "blank" page, yes he said that. So you get to mould them, in marriage if wife doesn't obey husband it gets difficult. That is why divorce rates are higher now. (I was lost for words. He went on though) if you get older, say 28-30. You get a girl who's 25 that has probably graduated and has work experience, so she will have her own life. She will have friends, she will want to work rather than be a housewife and not tend to kids and household chores. So you see? He ended.

I knew there was no point in arguing with him and I just didn't respond. But boy life is a great equalizer, that we all know. Today he is a proud father of 2 daughters.

And people will tell you that things are changing etc. But it's not, maybe female foeticide are reducing but a girl child brought into the world with a view that she is a burden and she is a "paraya dhan", she is a cause for worry because what can happen to her if she goes alone outside. It's not really a better alternative is it?

I was part of a big-ish family myself and ghar mein har waqt ronaq lagi rehti thi. Something or the other was always happening. I want the same too.

Having kids of any gender is out of the question. Made this decision last year and it has proven to be a godsend since my parents have been trying to get me arrange married despite my protests(it's just not going to happen) so every time they find a rishta, straight off the bat I ask the girl what her deal breakers are then lay mine on the table, having kids being one of my two deal breakers, and every single time it works. Seven for seven so far.

I have 2 boys myself and love the dynamic of same sex siblings. I would loved a girl child as well. The one thing I do know from seeing my kids friends is when the siblings have completely different personality and can't get along it brings the most discord in the family. I know families with kids who have disabilities and while its hard it brings joy when the siblings love and care for each other. The struggles make them better human beings. My children on the other hand do not know hardship, not because they are spoilt but because of circumstance. I find them not as emotionally mature as someone who has seen some kind of struggle where the family comes together to overcome it.

Do you really don't desire to have kids ?

Or you employ this tactic to avoid arranged marriage ?

If you wish to share, what is the reason you do not want any kids? I know this is a very personal question, just say "don't ask negative questions" if you don't feel like sharing. :afridi

A daughter first then a boy. I prefer daughters over boys. I don't really like boy kids tbh.

Don't want kids. The arranged marriage thing is just an added bonus that I did not foresee when making my decision.

Just don't see the point considering all the hassle involved. The world needs many things but more people is not one of them and besides, my family and relatives would want them raised with very different values to what I would want if I ever had kids and that's a conflict I'd rather avoid. Before someone asks about the specifics of those values, don't ask negative questions. The decision is made easier by the fact that I'm just naturally not keen on having kids.

**A child is a child and that's wonderful in itself**

If pushed, I'd lean towards a girl.

It's just a preference of raising someone other than your own gender. Ideally, you want to experience both genders in your lifetime of course.

I have two boys. Initially I had no preference, but when my first child was boy then I thought second should also be boy so that they can play together.
If I had a daughter first, I would have preferred the second child to be daughter.

So a brother and sister can't play together?

Beta first then beti. 2 at most as three is a crowd in an already over populated world. Having said that daughter's are always more loyal then son's are. She remains a daughter for life where as a son is only that until he finds himself a wife.

My brother has three sons

Then he prayed for a daughter and his prayers has finally been answered.

I want a girl just because I want to name her after my ex- Gf, and post it on Facebook to show I have bigger heart. :afridi

I know we should say we want a healthy child, but I would be lying if I didnt say I preferred a son.

Hey ... No, NO, NO!!! It was just a simple question. Another point, just give me a gun into my hand and I'd gladly shoot such ignorant people who abort their child after knowing that the child to be born is a girl. Frankly speaking, I would prefer a daughter in my case.

My wife is due in about 2 months with our first child. I have always wanted a girl child. However, considering the situation currently in my country for women, I am having big time second thoughts. Imagine having to keep an eye on your child every single day, worry when she steps outside of the house, worry every day when she goes to study, goes for a job. From a 2 month old to 80 month old, a women can never be safe and the parents cannot sleep soundly.

So I dunno. Well whoever is born we will love them all we can.

Hope you have a healthy, beautiful child. Whilst I am sure that you will give your newborn when he/she is born the maximum love, care and attention that any devoting parent will give, please allow me to make a polite suggestion. Please don't be offended. I suggest you get these thoughts of "I am having these big time thoughts" out of your mind immediately as, if it turns to be a baby girl, these "thoughts" may inadvertently create a tiny tinge of disappointment the first time you are told that it's a baby girl. That should not be your first thought upon becoming a father and welcoming your newborn into this world.

I understand where you coming from, but you just have to have a positive outlook ... otherwise you can just worry yourself sick.

In a country like India or pakistan, yes they have to be cautious, and I am sure you will make sure that she grows up aware and prepared, hopefully she will still succeed inspite of these challenges.

4 kids is actually awesome.

2 boys and 2 girls are perfect imho.

Too much population though.

Congrats mate.

Male child as I don't have to worry about too much about what he does and where he goes.

If a girl is sweet, then there is nothing in the world that can beat it.

Not even the most well behaved boy imo.

Bro once they're 4 it's the phase where you just get endless questions, and you have to keep screaming at them to behave. Hate stubborn, disobedient kids who never stop when you tell them to.

Personally I love them when they're small, so tiny and cute. Just wanna squish them:inzi

Well they can but it's likely that they only will until a certain age. Call me stereotypical but boys and girls have different interests, eventually they'll stray away. doesn't mean they don't love each other, it's just not the same.

I have 1 bro and 1 sis. I only joke around with my sister, whereas with my bro I, play video games, play cricket with him.

Difficult question:uakmal Would probably choose a boy, but it's real close lol. I would wish to have 1 boy an 1 girl in my life and that's it.
