Although the wicket-keeper commands the most important and demanding position in cricket, the men standing next to him have an important supporting role to play.

A large percentage of catches behind the stumps are taken by slip catchers, who have to rely on quick reflexes, good judgement and a slice of luck to ensure the catches that come their way are pouched cleanly and safely.

The retirement of Younis Khan and Misbah ul Haq has not only robbed the game of an all-time great batsman and an all-time great leader, respectively, but the cricketing community also lost two masters at the art of slip-catching.

So who remains? Who are the best slip-catchers currently able to play international cricket?

Is it the young and atheletic Ben Stokes? The experienced veteran Alastair Cook? Or is it the deceptively agile Hashim Amla? There are many other strong contenders like Kohli and Warner but who is the best in your opinion?

P.S. Mods can we get a poll? Thank you.

Not Asad Shafiq. :hafeez

Faf is the best catcher everywhere, I think.

Rahane is exceptional in the slips.

Faf and Rahane are probably the best two.

kohli should stay away from slip, sillypoint, leg slip .

for a superb outfielder and catcher his catching is atrocious at above said positions

Amla and Kohl? Nope. Amla is safest, but still not even in the top right now. Kohli, no way.

I agree, Rahane-Spinners are the reason why we closed/dominated so many matches.

It was Kohli who probably cost us the test at GABA by dropping the catch of Smith in the last innings. Horrible slip fielder.

Stokes maybe he has bucket hands and is a great athlete.

Amla is underrated as a slipper but wouldnt say hes one of the best.

YK and Inzi were great slip catchers. YK n Dravid are probs my favourite slip catchers.

Jimmy Anderson has always been a safe pair. Cook drops one every match recently. Rahane is pretty safe too and Faf takes some blinders, he's a bit of a super athlete

Rahane and Smith. Btw Misbah didn't field at slip often and when he did he certainly wasn't one of the best slip fielders lol.

I don't know the best two but go with Smith , Stokes, Faf and Rahane as great one right now .Amla is also very safest option.

Smith takes spectacular catches but has also missed many straightforward ones.

Rahane is the best. I can count the chances he's missed (including half chances) on one hand.

Kohli though a good fielder otherwise, drops a lot in slips.Rahane is the best from India.

Dang it. :yk

Nearing a 100 catches is the Mighty #.

Yes, Misbah was a regular in our cordon and took some pretty good catches. Don't know why you don't remember this.

He gets my vote too. Very exceptional and I haven't seen him drop a single catch.

Yeah, I forgot about Rahane. He's the best from India.

Kohli dropped a dolly too against New Zealand. McCullum went on to get 300 after that drop. NZ was 95/5 when he dropped the catch. He is a good ground fielder but a poor close in catcher.

Rahane for me as well. He has been brilliant for India.

Rahane and Smith are exceptional.

Brilliant reflexes.

PAK is going to miss YK for this reason.
