Who has been Pakistan's best fast bowler during the last decade? (2010-20)

As with the title thread - I guess these are our best choices:
1) Amir
2) Wahab
3) Gul
4) Junaid
5) Abbas
6) Mohd. Irfan
7) Hasan Ali
8) Shinwari
8) Imran Khan Jr
10) Rahat Ali

As you can see the choices aren’t great after the top 5 - but I would give my vote for Umar Gul. Remarkable bowler and terribly underrated - outstanding consistency and a knack for doing well across all formats..
 
Hard to say because None of them have been consistently good for a long stretch of time. They burst on the scene and do well initially and then fade away in a year or so. Or go through a cycle of being real good and then being downright horrid. Describes Junaid, Wahab, Rahat , Irfan perfectly.

I’d have to say Amir or Hasan- it has more to do with the dearth of consistent performers than solely their achievements, but they helped us win our only major trophy in that decade.

Umar Gul 2012 onwards just kept getting worse and worse, at first it was a slow decline and then at the 2014 world t20 I think he got torn apart and never recovered in any format. Partly due to his knee problems. But mid 00s-2011 Umar Gul was a beast.

While Gul was pretty good at his peak but he unfortunately was finished by 2013 due to injuries which only covers 3 years of the last decade. If he would have remained fit he could have taken more than 200 wickets in both tests and ODIs.

Easily Umar Gul, and its not close.

He's not perfect by any means, but a high impact bowler who basically wrote the book on how to bowl in T20's.
Inconsistent, but solid ODI and Test performer too

His longevity is unmatched amongst Pakistani fast bowlers of the 2010's, and his stats easily better that anyone else on that list
 
It is sad that none of these pacers could even reach 200 test wickets when some of them showed good potential early on in their career.
 
Wow, I just never realized the seriousness of the fast bowling crisis in Pakistan until this thread. There's really not a lot there. It's like picking the least worst bowler. I don't even know whom to name here.

What are Pakistani management doing with fast bowlers?? They have too many but can’t pin down one to lead the attack regularly like Boult or Steyn!

This last Decade should be a big wake up call and they need to keep mainstay Pace bowler. Hopefully SSA stays fit and bowls 350-400 overs for Pakistan

That SR is phenomenal for a bowler who does not play shorter formats that much.
 
Riaz is the only one who has played the full decade although Irfan popped up at the start of the decade also but was in and out more often than Riaz.

Unfortunately, Riaz never lived up to his immense potential and was very wayward at times. I can only conclude that Amir would be the best bowler. He only played last four years but still it was during the last decade.

However, due to his longevity and not fading away or getting banned like the others, Riaz is still a good shout. So just like Mo Hafeez was touted as the best batsman of the decade, you could have Riaz as the best bowler.

Shows what a horrific decade it was. Glad its over, but PK think tank need to rectify and improve all these deficiencies that we witnessed in the shambolic last decade.
 
Goes to show the reputation of our fast bowling has been living off past glories for a long time.

Those are truly shocking numbers.

Batting stats probably aren't much better. Worst decade in the history of Pak cricket maybe

The bowlers are good but there are too many chops and changes. None of these blokes can nail a spot in the side for more than 2-3 years.

Let me think of the various bowling attacks I remember since 2010,

There are more and more. It’s a bit ridiculous, Amir’s 5 years out and then his retirement from Tests is a reason why he isn’t in the top 5-10, otherwise he is no doubt a good bowler

The last decade has been the difficult time for Pakistan fast bowling mainly due to us playing in UAE and us going spin heaving which has been equally been bad. Our spinners outside the sub continents have awful records. Basically the last decade has been awful for our bowling with sprinkling of good spells such as Yasir in 2018 in UAE or Hasan Ali in 2017 CT.

Each time some posters will start calling Pakistani attack as among the top 2-3 attacks. If you ask for track record then same old story about how they are all new, have huge potential and how they belong in top tiers.

To be a gun attack , you need to have few bowlers with 150-200+ wickets. Otherwise it's pie in the sky story.
 
Our bowlers were horrible. Pakistan had the bowlers in Sadaf hussein and tabish khan, asad ali. They just never played for pakistan, asad played a few matches though.

Hopefully this decade will see a brilliant era of fast bowling spearhead by Shaheen and Naseem. The management is picking young fast bowlers for a change.
 
Fitness had something to do with it as well. Rarely Pakistani pacers bowled with aggression in their 2nd and 3rd spells. It hard to last for 200+ wickets if you lack in fitness.

That is more matches than anyone else from that list - which is frankly surprising..

No one has played 244 tests.
 
Our bowling has been overrated for a long time. Just a lazy cliche that we always have a good bowling attack.

Hopefully Shaheen develops into a top class bowler.
 
I recon we need a long haul attack of Shaheen, Naseem and Hasnain. These 3 need to play in all formats for a decade now.

Hasnain is underrated here. He has show that he can go away and work on his shortcomings, he will improve InshaAllah
 
T20i cricket is pointless IMO

It takes a whole day in any countries international calendar and doesn’t provide bowlers with an opportunity to take 4-5 wickets in an innings regularly enough. This is another reason why we are not seeing great numbers in wickets tally overall.

Personally, I would leave T20 Cricket to be restricted to IPL, PSL, CPL, BPL only
 
Abbas in tests. Aamir in ODIS , Wahab in t 20. Fairly limited choices but gul was a choker while aamir turned up in CT 17 and in the World Cup. Wahab has been brilliant in t20's especially at the death ( brainless bowling to Steve Smith excepted). Abbas was directly responsible for the result of 3 series in a short period of time and was undoubtedly the leader of the attack for a while.
 
Not a very high bar, but I would say Amir. In addition to his excellent bowling in 2010, he has been the best performing bowler in matches from 2016-2019 especially 2016 Asia Cup, 2017 CT, and 2019 WC.

If you include one extra year before 2010, i.e 2009, you can also count 2009 T20 WC.

Got player of the tournament Dilshan for a duck in the final and arguably changed the entire complexion of the match.

This is his record in the decade 2010 to 2019:

In England 2010: 30 wickets in 6 Tests at 19.80
In England 2016: 12 wickets in 4 Tests at 42.41
v West Indies in UAE 2016-17: 6 wickets in 2 Tests at 38.50
v NZ away in 2016-17: 7 wickets in 2 Tests at 28.57
v Australia away in 2016-17: 5 wickets in 3 Tests (on a twisted ankle) at 61.60
v West Indies away in 2017: 13 wickets in 3 Tests at 17.46
v Sri Lanka in UAE in 2017-18: 1 wicket at 164.00.
In England and Ireland in 2018: 12 wickets in 3 Tests at 18.42

Interestingly though, never quite lived up to the hype when he came back and now has lost interest.

I used to believe Rabada was better than Shami until I saw him being taken apart by Hitman and Aggarwal in India. This is supposed to be his prime. Highly unlikely that he will ever to recover from that, basically a dud in Asia.

Cummins is nice, I like him actually, no homo, but he's not at Shamis level in terms of skill level and ability to dominate.

My actual favorite bowler from this generation is James Pattinson. Raw talent wise he's to fast bowling what KL Rahul is to batting in this generation.

Cummins is >> Shami, only you cannot see that. The bloke was incredible during the ashes and is generally incredibly consistent. Plus those balls to Root. Pattinson isn't even in the convo, Cummins 3 times the talent and bowler

Cummins is good bro. I will not put him down just because Shami is better.
