Define technically accomplished?

Steve Smith follows no volume of the technique book, but he has been the most prolific batsman since Bradman. Technique is over-rated. All that matter is the runs you score, not how you score them.

OK then, hope you agree Mohammad Hafeez is one of our best-ever openers. :srt

Also I do not appreciate the fact that you edited the OP after I made two posts on the thread already :ashwin

Btw why are Azhar Ali's record from 2013, when he debuted in 2010

dhandli hoi hai...

jeena hoga marna hoga
dharna hoga dharna hoga

Majid Khan. Lillee rates him very highly. Name me any other Pak opener who's been complemented by the best fast bowler of his generation.

Certainly not Professor. Unless you count literally being laughed at :moha :steyn

It will be Azhar Ali once he retires.

That’s if Mickey remembers he’s an opening batsman and not a #3

Why is Saeed Ahmed not even considered when even Ramiz Raja and Imran Farhat are there?

Majid was my favourite batsman for years!

Technically accomplished and hafiz name is there..lol.bigggggggggg lollllllllllllll.

Azhar has only 16 matches as an opener hence need more matches to draw conclusion.
From old times, majid and mohsin were technically right.

Hanif Mohammad must have been our most 'technically correct' batsman. imo Saeed Anwar was our best opener. Both true legends for Pak cricket.

Mohammad Wasim? Was very techincally correct but got hard done by selectors

I think, Hanif was the perfect Test opener; but he played in an era when his game suited. Saeed was probably the most complete opener of 90s, though his stats are a bit misleading. Overall, I'll say PAK’s all time Test opening pair should be Hanif & Saeed.

My personal choice would be different - I’ll open with Saeed & Mazid for Test as well (ODI, almost everyone’ll do). Among all batsmen in history, probably most senior citizens here who have seen Mazid at his best would agree that if stats can be deceiving for a batsman, it has to be Mazid Khan.

Also, Mazid’s reputation in PAK ranks is well proven with the treatment MoHa gets - I have heard from people who have seen Mazid live, that the comparison is almost as good ...... hence that royal status and deserved one as well. In this current PAK team, someone almost as good as Mazid Khan should be treated like national treasure.

He didn't do too well as an opener. However, looking at his stats, it seems as though he was shuffled all over the lineup. Batted multiple times in each position 1-7 in just 18 Tests.

"most technically accomplished"? :afaq

Technically speaking the person who has accomplished the most would be Saeed Anwar since has has scored the most runs, however I do not think that's what your question was....

On the other hand - some of the replies in this thread are a classic example of the cliche statement - "your stock goes up when your sitting on the bench" :))

Azhar Ali... I watch Pak Test matches only to see his straight drive

I would go with Saeed Anwar, but have not seen the openers pre-1990s. However, Hanif Mohammed seems to be highly regarded by his peers and experts; often makes the Pakistan ATG XI as an opener to partner Saeed.

You might enjoy this then. Lillee on Majid :)

Oh this is priceless! Many thanks for that.

The ability to hit shots both sides of the wicket, on both the front-foot and the back-foot, is also a part of "technique". That pretty much rules a stroke-less wonder like Azhar out.

I think the answer is Majid.

I voted Azhar Ali as I was only born in 1999 so haven't seen a lot of the options there actually bat before. He's easily the most technically accomplished opener out of the ones I have seen for Pakistan and his record backs that up.
