We are seeing both England's and Pakistan's batting line-ups struggling in Test cricket.

Which do you think is currently the worst of the 2?

One series doesn't tell the complete tale, you can't take a line up consisting of Root, Stokes, Buttler, Ali, Bairstow lightly. Even with the recent humiliation English top 7 is still miles better than Pak atm.

The technique, Temperament has gone for a toss with English batting. Not enough patience to see of the tough periods. No good technique to survive probing spells. You could blame T20 and all those stuff. But i think it is a result of not having a decent set of openers. They set the tone for the rest. Because of poor openers they think it is important to include several all rounders down the order. BRathwhite put up a brilliant batting exhibition of what is test batting all about in this series. English players constantly try to feel the ball around the off stump. Having grown up in England you would think they are better trained to leave tthe balls. They need someone like Alistair cook up the order.

Fully agree, this just goes to show what an asset Cook was for England.

Pakistani batsmen would have played better than Eng in WI.
English batsmen would play better than Pak batsmen in SA.

Both are fragile batting lineups with not much consistency. Scoring 200 is a challenge. Man to.man England looks a better unit than Pakistan and English have more depth. But don't let the names fool you. These are ODI bashers masquerading as test batsmen in England. Even in India series, it's the tail that saved England. They were routinely 5 down for not much. Nevertheless, Eng batting is just a bit better than Pak lineup at this point just because of capability of playing short balls.

On current form, England is worse. Burns, Jennings, and Denly would not make it into Pakistan's team.

Horrendous top three. Possibly worst in the world. England have a similar problem to Pak, their players don't convert starts into big scores.

I would rather have England's batting line up than ours lol. If England's top 3 could see off the new ball , I think England's middle order would be more consistent.
