In my opinion, it is Hashim Amla because of his stats, calm yet solid approach and his temperament. He has faded away recently though.

You mean to say Asian origin.

It would be between Amla, Chanderpaul and Rohan Kanhai imo.

Amla for me.

They are also of Indian origin players.

On topic excluding Windies, Id say Amla
Including Windies: Rohan Kanhai, Chanderpaul are easily ahead of Amla.

Yeah, true. But some of them migrated in the early before 1900 and unlike Desi's (both Hindu and Muslim) living in other country's, they have had interracial marriages and so don't count.

KingKhanWC Indians are jealous we have The Beard :afridi to be fair I'd be envious to, he's such a magnificent bloke; he needs to tone down his appeal a bit, he can make others feel a bit insecure :broad

Amla is good but if we were counting WI, nobody beats Chanderpaul. He is amazing.

So damn underrated, he had a terrific series here in England during the 2012 Wisden Trophy I believe he was ranked no.1 or no.2 in the world as well at the time

I've heard multiple times that Amla is of Indian origin.:jimmy

Would love him to be Pakistani :kakmal

The only thing Chanderpaul beats Amla at is longevity.

I disagree. Chanderpaul beats him at mostly everything but I think you're undermining how big of a factor even longevity is solely. Just compare their statistics.

Amla has a triple hundred at The Oval against England, a 250* against India at Nagpur, a 196 against Australia at Perth. He's played match-winning and impact knocks in Test cricket in almost every country. All that whilst batting mostly at #3. He has an extremely balanced record in all countries, averaging 45+ in England, India, Australia and South Africa.

Chanderpaul has the disadvantage of playing in a poor team for a large portion of his career yet he still kept hiding at #5 and even #6, and for good reason - he averages in the 30s higher up the order. He has 30 hundreds in Test cricket, only 4 more than Amla despite playing 57 more Tests. He has an average record in South Africa and Australia. The only categories where he beats Amla are average and of course, not outs. But Amla scores a higher number of runs per match. Plus, I can hardly remember any great knocks from Chanders. All his highest scores have come in WI and Bangladesh.

Kind of sad how few ethnic minorities have succeeded in cricket, not just asians. Makes you think, especially when in other sports such as football, athletics etc. there have been so many.

What makes it worse is he cleaned them like tailenders when he was supposed to be a part time spinner. :)

But Mo is Brummie, which is slightly more advanced than Asian ;)

Cant say much with reference to Rohan Kanhai but Amla is definitely a superior cricketer to Chanderpaul.

So, overall its Hashim Amla.

Kanhai, who's massively underrated, and then Chanderpaul. Then Amla and Kalicharan.

Chanders was quality from 1994 to 1997 and 2007 to 2014.

Hashim Amla is the greatest Asian-origin player who plays for a non-Asian team. Great stats, an absolutely outstanding peak where he was the best batsman in the world for half a decade, brought his best against the best and memorable, match-winning innings a plenty. A great ODI batsman as well and the only ATG to fulfill OP's criteria. After him are the West Indian duo of Kanhai and Chanderpaul.

Kanhai didn't do too well against the top teams of his time (Australia and England) and most of his exploits came against the weaker teams he played against (India and Pakistan).

Chanderpaul meanwhile, has great stats but hardly any innings of significance. There was also never a time when he was considered one of the top three batsmen in the world and given his batting tempo and position, would hardly ever dominate games. Still a great batsman and any country would have loved to have him play for them.

I hope the likes of Moeen Ali, Sikander Raza, Usman Khawaja and perhaps Imran Tahir break this Indian monopoly by the team they retire.

Chanderpaul and the likes don't count as they don't have any Asian links remaining.

The others like Moeen, Amla etc are still rooted in Asian culture

Statistically Amla. If we are talking about Asian born then Amla will be out of the picture. Ironically there are quiet a good cricketers were born in India and went on to play for other countries. Nasser, Colin cowdrey, Ranjith singhji, Douglas Jardine, Bob Woolmer etc

I am sure, there was another thread on identical topic, which had lot more detailed discussion. Can the mods merge these two threads?
