The Premier League has been blessed with some of the best #9s to ever grace a football pitch, from England and abroad.

These are the top 10 goal-scorers in PL history right now:

1. Alan Shearer - 260
2. Wayne Rooney - 208
3. Andrew Cole - 187
4. Sergio Aguero - 184
5. Frank Lampard - 177
6. Thierry Henry - 175
7. Harry Kane - 171
8. Robbie Fowler - 163
9. Jermain Defoe - 162
10. Michael Owen - 150

Some other names not on that list but certainly deserve to be in the conversation include:

Robin Van Persie - 144
Didier Drogba - 104
Ruud van Nistelrooy - 95
Dennis Bergkamp - 87
Eric Cantona - 70

Just considering strikers and ones that have already left the league, not just including their goal-scoring tally, but taking into account their overall ability, longevity, importance for the team, silverware, even historical impact - who's the greatest in Premier League history?

Discuss!

For me, it's very close competition but Thierry Henry edges it. Totally transformed Arsenal, led us to multiple PL titles and an Invincibles season, Ballon D'Or runner up, broke goal-scoring and assist records.

Whether poaching in the box, dribbling a team from the halfway line or inexplicably finding the top corner from 30 yards with his back to goal, he was totally unstoppable and made a fool of many a defender. He humiliated Carragher so badly that he maintains to this day Henry is the greatest PL player of all time, let alone striker.

The greatest striker in Premier League history.

I’d go with Alan Shearer and Gabriel Agbonlahor

Henry would get my vote, notable mentions for wayne rooney and my personal favorite Ruud Van Nistlerooy.

side question do posters think Shearer would be all time goalscorer if he started in say the early 00s rather than when the premier league era began.

Henry for me, then Shearer and Ageuro not far behind him probably.

Ageuro i believe has the greatest goals per min ratio well ahead of henry in 2nd place

But for me its henry He could do it all Run past 4 players from half way line and score or a 30 yard screamer in top corner

Rooney, Henry, Aguero, Drogba have to be the standouts.

In recent times Kane has broken Goal scoring charts.

But my favourite striker was Fernando Torres for Liverpool, at that time he was the most unplayable striker/ finisher I seen. That move to Chelsea destroyed him.

Harry Kane may well end up the league's 2nd all-time top scorer, but he cost himself a proper say in this conversation by staying at Spurs all his career. He's never won a single trophy, and his career highlight will be getting resoundingly outplayed in a UCL final.

Had he moved to a bigger club and used his amazing finishing to fire a side to PL titles, it would be a different story.

Theirry Henry for me. Followed by Shearer, Aguero, Nistelrooy, Drogba

Kane could still move on this year imo.

Harry Kane is an overrated bum and an insult to the other top scorers, he was badly exposed in the EURO’s. Be honest, who’s climb out of bed to watch him? he’s a glorified goal hanger who happens to be extremely fortunate to score so many lucky goals

Henry, but I think Suarez would have surpassed him had he joined Arsenal in 2013 or stayed at Liverpool until 2017-2018.

Doubt so. City was the only realistic option for him and Pep dodged a bullet. It was a blessing in disguise that Spurs didn’t let him go because he wouldn’t have improved the team.

City is playing some of its best football ever without a ST and if they do decide to sign one, they will go for a quicker and athletic option like Haaland.

United and Chelsea will also look to sign more mobile forwards who can stretch defenses.

It seems like Kane is going to retire at Spurs unless he decides to go to another league which I highly doubt, considering the amount of records he can shatter in England.
