These days we see a lot of tailenders who can hang around for a bit and are not completely useless so cricket has evolved in a sense..

However in the past when a team used to be 8 or 9 down the innings was supposed to be over as tailenders were not given much chance.. So in your opinion who have been the worst tailenders ever?

I’ll get it rolling with few names:

Walsh
Ambrose
Mcgrath
Munaf Patel
Mohammad irfan

Chris Martin says hi !!

Lot of people saying Chris Martin don’t really remember him but was he that worse than someone like Walsh also to have unanimous vote for worst batsman ever?

Nah, Walsh was five times the batsman Martin was. Walsh has 8 first class fifties, Martin's highest score in any format is 25.

Ambrose at times was fairly decent.

Phil tufnell and Alan Mullally were pretty bad tailenders!

There are many who have played few Tests (innings). But, among regular players, who has played for long enough, I think the weakest one was Chandrashekhar.

Another guy was Ironmonger, but I haven't seen him. There is a joke about him (may be a pun by his team mates) - in early '30s, with operator handled telephone, it was difficult to connect people. Once Henrey Ironmorger was playing for NSW and went to bat at 11 (he never batted at 10 or above in FC or Test), his wife called him for a reason. One of his team mates took the call and told the lady that Henrey has just gone to bat ..
- "no problem, I'll be waiting ....."

I would agree with the majority on Chris Martin. He was just awful, its like he never batted before in his life.

Chris Martin was bad but also Imran Khan jnr who represented us in tests recently was absolutely dreadful.

Chris Martin, I have seen him he was worse than ever. Walsh was a little better and Irfan is way better then both

Irfan isn't as bad as some people make him out to be, I think he's hit a six before and some boundaries but is a typical number 11. Chris Martin was super feeble, you could get a free wicket every time if you bowled to him.

Devon Malcolm. He couldn't hit the ball even after three attempts:facepalm:

Bumrah must be up there.

People forgetting the Yesteryear Indian Spin trio. Bedi/Prasanna/Chandra. I heard that these guys don't last more than 2 balls.

Surely Mohammad Irfan would be near the top of the list.

In the past, Courtney Walsh, Devon Malcolm and Phil Tufnell are some of the worst I saw.

Surely Mohammad Irfan would be near the top of the list.

I can never forget when Glenn freaking Maxwell with his part time off spin defended two runs in the final over against Irfan and Tanvir.

Chris Martin and Chandrasekhar are the only two cricketers with less runs than wickets. It is hard to look beyond these two. Chandra at least had the excuse of having a weak right arm due to contracting polio in his childhood. Martin had none. I suspect in an XI of the worst No. 11s Martin would still be batting at 11

Afridi, considering his reputation. I'd rely more on someone like Irfan Pathan than Afridi.
