Not a day goes by that José Mourinho's name is not mentioned in reference to MUFC's troubles but is he the only one to blame?

It's 0-0 till 65th minute - if MU looses today as well, I guess Mou might not manage the next CL game!!!

The Glazers clearly ruined the club once they didnt have SAF to sort their mess out. It's hilarious.

Mourinho this year, but overall their recruitment has been strange. Thier defence has been awful for a while and i say this as an Arsenal fan. How Phill jones still plays for United is beyond me

Its difficult to say this, but a lot of United's problems come back to the clubs inability to progress as an football organisation under Ferguson.

Ferguson achieved a lot for and with the club, but he did not allow the club to evolve as other clubs have, simply because of his role and presence at the club. He was the ideal version of the 'Manager'.

Ferguson's success and legacy has led the club to try and continue with this set-up. It cannot work in the modern world. Clubs have moved on. Now the role of the 'Manager' is split among various people and departments, allowing them to specialise in what they do best.

Thats one issue.

The next long term issue is the severe under investment in the squad going back to the Glazer takeover. United were able to tread water for a while, but once the spending stakes were upped by the likes of Chelsea, City, Madrid, PSG, and to some extent Barca - United were unable to compete.

Thats the reason the squad Ferguson left was full of the likes of Phil Jones, Smalling, Javier Hernandez, Anderson, Cleverley, etc. Players not quite good enough to compete at the highest level. Every manager who has come since Ferguson has found it difficult to overhaul the squad completely, and a lot of dross and deadwood has been allowed to accumulate. The squad, on paper, was weaker than the likes of Chelsea and City, even during Ferguson's final season.

Next fall guy is Woodward. He took over the reigns from David Gill, and has made plenty of mistakes. Chief of which is being reactive to the problems facing the club, instead of trying to set out to, and stick to a clear plan. His two appointments of LvG and Mourinho were simply a case of hiring the biggest names on paper available at the time.

You need to have a clear vision of where you see the club, and hire the man you deem best suited to carry that out. Hiring managers simply due to their profile does not work, as they may be ill suited to working with the resources available to them. You have invested in Martial and Shaw, discovered a talent in Rashford, and have been chasing Paul Pogba for 2 years. Why then, bring in a manager who does not like working with young, free-thinking players.

The current state, comes down to Mourinho. Yes, he has been dealt an imperfect hand. But he has played that hand poorly. He has made plenty of mistakes, and now deserves no sympathy. Instead of owning up to the fact he is screwing things up, and trying to resolve the issues he has caused, he doubles down, and proceeds to blame everyone but himself. He has to go.

But firing him, and hiring someone else will not solve everything. Just as Imran Khan will not change the face of Pakistan in 4 years.

The owners have to take some blame but, and as an Arsenal Fan, I would love to have an Owner who is willing to spend that kind of money...

But yes the Owners should take the blame for signing Mourinho in the first place and then not sacking him by now.

Jose Mourinho for sure. Even if the players are misbehaving it's for the manager/coach to set them straight. Jose with his glum appearance and attitude is not a motivator. Owners have given lots of money that he wasted on under performing players like Sanchez. Mourinho's teams of superstars is not playing for him due to disunity in the dressing room. They don't have a settled eleven at all.

Woodward and Mourinho.

The former should not have appointed him as coach for 2 reasons:

Firstly Jose's style of football isn't aligned with Man U's footballing philosophy.

Secondly Ed has handled it very badly, he should have known JM is a short term replacement (3-4 years max) whereas Man U needed stability and a long term replacement, so a younger manager would have been more ideal. Also Mourinho should have been told in January earlier this year that he wouldn't be getting budget he wanted in the Summer transfer window.

So ultimately I blame Woodward.

Ed Woodward obviously, same problems happened with every manager that served under him - jose mourinho was brought in to bring quick success and not build for the future but he hasnt been allowed to do that, it seems his hands has been tied and woodward is making the transfers for him who isnt even a football guy - jose seems to have taken the frustration out on the players in his war with the board but the culprit is woodward and he must be sacked now.

Mourinho has to take some of the blame. He has fallen out with a lot of the players, can't get the best out of Pogba ,Sanchez, and Marital, no set style of play, and he has stuck with some average players.

The board have to take responsibility for hiring Mourinho and not hiring a director of football to help with recruitment. Manchester United are in an atrocious state right now and it will take a few years to resolve this.

TBH, i dont think anyone would have got the best out of pogba as a CM, he just isnt diceplined enought, its not Joses fault, However pogba could become a heck of a player if he was playing anywhere across the front 3, i would love to see him as a striker or playing off him on the left.

Sanchez is a fitness issue, last season he probably went into a depression having to be foreced to stayed at Arsenal and it showed in his fitness levels and became so over weight, this season will show how good mourihno is in handling him as he seems to be getting back to his best fitness.

and, martial seems to be an attitude problem, he is a heck of a player, who if left would go on to be better then salah or debryne but martial is not a jose mourinho player, he wants a wide man who can ran back and double up with the left back, martial is not interested in tracking back.

Its easy to blame Jose here but when you hire him you know what your getting and in return in gives you trophies, but for that you have to back him and give him the players he wants, but the board havnt given him it, jose needs full control otherwise hiring him is useless, like he said at the begining of the season he is just a coach here and not a manager and now he has to coach players that dont suit his style, while new transfers is being handled by a guy who has never kicked a football.

Lol Deschsmps,Conte, and Allegri all have got much more of Pogba than Mourinho has. They are defensive managers and they have played him cm as well.

Sanchez is on the decline but his confidence is gone and he is bringing nothing to the side. If you don't want to blame Mourinho for his form, he should be blamed for signing him in the first place.

And why haven't we heard about Martial attitude problems anywhere else ? No other manager has said anything negative about Martial attitude. Don't agree with that at all. Mourinho got the best out of Hazard in his first 2 seasons at Chelsea so he should put his ego to one side and try to get more out of Martial and have more belief in him. If not he should have moved him on and let someone make use of him.

He has been backed. He has been given £400 million. How much more backing does he need ? It was clear after his final run at Chelsea he was on the way down. The board maybe should have backed him more but why would you back a manager who can't get the best out of his players and throws players under the bus after 1 bad performance.

They should have hired a director of football to help out with transfers as recruitment at Manchester United has been awful for a while.

Playing in series A is completly different to EPL, conte or allegri wont get the same performances out of pogba in EPL with him not tracking back, he can get away with it in series A but never in EPL. Yes he did it when it mattered in the WC but outside of the WC he has the same problems as seen this week.

I dnt agree with sanchez on the decline, last season he was out of shape and his fitness was terrible, he should atleast be given this season before we judge him.

Also im not even sure Mourinho wanted him, it looks like woodward was after a marque signing like Bale who he has been after since he got this job and when Sanchez became available he pounced on it.

You talk about him getting £400m new sigings but there is a difference in him being 'backed' and being 'given' the sigings.

Its the same with martial you say he should be sold if he doesnt want him, well its not news that he always wanted to offload him since he arrived.

If you signed Mourinho and want the best out of him, you have to give him what he wants and stop fiddling in his affairs. Otherwise he should never be appointed, woodward looks like he wants to be the manager of the club and let mourihno be a simple coach, which will never work.

Seria A is much more defensive than EPL. He showed in the world cup he is capable of playing without the ball.

I think Manchester United just wanted to get 1 over Man City by signing Sanchez.

And do you have any proof he has been given the signings? He wanted Pogba at Chelsea. He definitely signed Zlatan. Lukaku was surely his buy.

Mourinho should have never been appointeed Manchester United manager. Overall he has been failure.

Newcastle are the most defensive team in the EPL but how good have they been in stopping goals?

Yes Pogba showed in the WC he is capable to play without the ball but only when it matters on a big stage otherwise outside the WC with both club and country he has shown he lacks discipline, when he goes to Selhurt Park on a Saturday afternoon to play crustal palace he will give 2 hoots about running back to stop attacks and this is a problem that cant be cured, so the best is to take him out that role and give him a more advanced role.

As for signings, woodward has always been interested in marque signings which builds the brand image of the club, hes just a wall street guy with no football knowledge and the transfer of Pogba was started before Jose even came to sign a contract with us.

Sure he got some guys like Lukaku and Zlatan but most are not his players, look at Fred we spend £50M on him and why do you think hes not playing anymore? most probably Jose wanted milinkovic savic and woodward said take this guy fred instead hes a better and cheaper alternative.

Its not mourinho thats been a failure its the board that has failed, what is happening now is nothing new, same has happened with every manager appointed by woodward and it will continue happening forever till he is in this position.

Man Utd deny Saudi Arabia takeover bid amid billionaire crown prince Mohammad bin Salman 'interest'

Manchester United have dismissed suggestions the Glazer family are ready to put the club up for sale.

Reports have emerged claiming interest from super-rich Saudi Arabia crown prince Mohammad bin Salman in a prospective takeover, which could be valued beyond the £4bn-mark.

Yet sources at Old Trafford are adamant the club's American owners have always maintained their stake is not for sale, and have no interest in discussing any buy-out of United.

An insider connected to the club questioned the timing of the reports, coming as they do with a diplomatic crisis engulfing the Saudis, after American-based journalist and critic of the regime Jamal Khashoggi disappeared amid allegations he had been murdered.

That has prompted yet more uncomfortable questions about a Saudi regime also under fire for the killing of many innocent civilians following air strikes in Yemen after a military intervention reportedly devised by Prince Mohammad, who is also Defence Minister.

United have rubbished claims they are set to be taken over
The crown prince, who holds the second highest rank in the Saudi government after his father, King Salman, is thought to be interested in investing in a high profile football club following investment ventures in Formula 1 and WWE.

The popularity of Abu Dhabi investment in Manchester City has been seen as a way of improving the as a means to improving the emirate's image, which has been tarnished by questions of human rights abuses.

Prince Mohammad is said to be keen to follow a similar path, but a source with connections to Old Trafford has suggested the controversy surrounding the disappearance of Mr Khashoggi following a visit to the Saudi embassy in Turkey would make any sale impossible.

There has also been talk of investment from Saudi Arabia in Old Trafford following a 'strategic partnership' deal struck with the country's General Sports Authority, which is aimed at developing football within the nation.

United co-chairman Avram Glazer helped strike that agreement after spending time in the middle east recently, and he is expected to attend a future investment conference in Riyadh later this month, sparking talk of a sponsorship arrangement.

Luke Shaw close to signing new deal at Manchester United that will net him £150k a week
United sources though, suggest that is a long way from any sale of the club, and have made clear the owning Glazer family have been firm in their insistence United is not for sale at any price.

The club meanwhile, are close to securing their England defender Luke Shaw on a new long term contract, after finally winning the confidence of manager Jose Mourinho in recent weeks.

Talks are said to be at an advanced stage over a new five year deal, with Shaw indicating he would be prepared to commit to a long term agreement, after his relationship with the United boss thawed this season.

Terms are yet to be finalised, but it is understood Shaw is happy with the outlines of the proposal which will see him receive a significant rise on his current £5m a year deal.

If the fine detail can be agreed the contract could even be signed by the end of the month, which would be a relief for the United board, with Shaw's current contract due to expire at the end of the season.

Previous talks had faltered because Mourinho seemed intent on openly criticising Shaw and also reluctant to offer him a regular first team place. But the defender has emerged this season, with the manager offering praise for his form.

United fans including me were fearing the worst considering the football Sarri's side has been playing this season and would have taken a draw at Stamford Bridge eyes closed if it was offered before the game.
