Who is your favourite commentator of all time?

Nasser Hussain. Intelligent, unbiased commie with a sense of humour.

Geoffrey Boycott. David Lloyd if we're only considering those who are still active. Haven't seen Boycott in the comm box in ages.

Tony Greig was brilliant especially during the dramatic moments of a match.

Special mentions also to Tony Cozier and of course Richie Benaud.

Jim Laker on the BBC.

The greatest off-spinner in the history of the world, and a wonderfully warm and perceptive commentator.

Am I too old? There is hardly any mention of Richi here. Tony & Lawry as well. Another gentleman I can name - none had so much passion for WI cricket - Tony Cozier.

The worst I can recall - the greatest cricketer to me, but Imran couldn't get the control of this trick.

All time favorites: Richie Benaud, Bill Lawry, Tony Greig and Boycott.

Current favorites: Rameez, Nasser Hussain, Mark Nicholas and Harsha Bhogle

Assault on my ears: Danny Morrison, Athar Ali Khan, Arun Lal, Ranjit Fernando, Chishty Mujahid, Wasim Akram, Imran Khan and above all, Peter Bacela (does anyone else remember him)?

There are quite a few for different reasons, some are insightful, some are funny, some for being unbiased.

Following for being insightful and for being unbiased

Boycott
Nasser
Ian Chappell

Hearing that man makes me sick.

2 of the most biased and retarded commentators on this planet

Not at all. Not everyone might agree with their views, but they are not biased. In fact Ian Chappell is one of the least biased cricket pundit on the planet. Yes, they are very patriotic.

i guess your obsession with Hitman is also real....

Peter Bacela (does anyone else remember him)?

Ah Peter Bacela. Why does he sound coked up on helium whilst commentating ? Take a drink every time he says "failing to stop it" - a shame everyone "failed to stop" him from entering the commentary box.

3:10 is where he loses it completely - "Oh that one is in third man is it over third maaaan is it overrr Lance Klusener HE DRAAAPS IT ! He held it in his haaand and it went in and out" :)))

Other Bacela gems -
Bacela described a boundary as "the four legs of a cow running away" and a six as a ball being hit "right into heaven"

I don't know the name of my favorite commentator, but you'll hear his voice when you watch Afridi's 88 vs South Africa or Razzaq's ton against SA in 2010.

Shastri is a preening peacock & head cheerleader for the BCCI. Chappell is very perceptive-although like Boycott tends to romantacise the old days although without his colossal ego.

What language is he speaking? He sounds like Benny Hill doing the Chinese man impression mixed with a parrot squawking.

I have learned from other sports like Wrestling & Snooker that just because you are a great player or even a great promo does not mean you will make a good commentator.

He's quite the character. Bacela is a mainly Xhosa speaking commentator in South Africa.

Bacela is in the unique position of being at the forefront of developing cricket terms for Xhosa where precise expressions like “silly point” don’t exist.

In Xhosa we say uphantsi kwempumlo for silly point,” explains Bacela, which literally means “fielding under the nose.”

A maiden over becomes abenzanga zi-runs kule (no runs scored in the over), a Yorker is simply yibhola esezinzwaneni (ball pitching on the toes), while iqanda or idada translates as “nought” (duck). A pinch-hitter is known as umxhomi.

Short-leg is usemsileni wenkomo, which literally means “behind the cow’s tail”.

ah man Chisty is boring, he just tries too hard, a commentator needs to natural at speaking english.

Danny Morrison is ok too some extent, hes different kind of commentator, he doesnt get involved into discussion of certain players, just stays to the basic, commentate on the current game.

I do enjoy Rameez, but Hasha Bhogle is my all time favorite. He always has something nice to say about Pakistan.

Danny tries too hard to be funny and comes across as a complete joker at times. When he sticks to cricket in a dignified manner, he's okay but that is a rare occurrence.

David Lloyd, no doubt about it. Funny as hell and loves Pakistan.

Also, he just beats Tony Greig for me.

Good commentator but extremely biased. Hypes every decent South African cricketer to moon.

Im not concerned about biased. Its more about the fact that there voice should add a thrill to the game. Hayesmen is a GANGSTA at making things epic

The most charming voice and use of flattering English is David Gower.

in Urdu commentary i enjoy Tariq saeed, his voice is very good for commentary.

Saleem Elahi. Could have been good or world class if Pakistan persisted with him the way they did with so many other failures

I miss Chishty Mujahid. Hope he commentates during our series against Sri Lanka so we can all get our eight hours of sleep.

I like Ian Chappell, Michael Clarke and Mark Taylor from current lot

Also missed Arther and Hussein from England

Ian Chappel and Mark Taylor, seriously?

Chappel isn't the popular choice I know but he speaks his mind and he can be quite insightful at times..

Taylor is pretty unbiased and fair unlike some of the other channel 9 guys like Healey and Warne

Laxman Sivaramakrishnan for his understanding of the game and command of the English language. Also a very nice man who unlike the likes of Ravi Shastri doesn't get involved in silly quarrels or make sarcastic comments. Shiva knows when to speak and when to keep his mouth shut.

Ian Bishop.

I am someone who isn't too much into the razzmatazz and shouting in the comm box and trying to make yourself look silly.I like someone who gives us insights into the game, someone who is brilliant at analysing the game brilliantly-it's technical and tactical aspect and then explaining it brillaintly not someone who tries to sound funny and witty but in originality in is a nothing commentator.Reason I will always take Bazid over that Shastri guy any day of the week who adds absolutely nothing towards the match other the bleeding my(with others) ears.

In that regard I think Bish is the best commentator currently. He is absolutely brilliant at analysing the game(bot technically and technically) and then able to express it fantastically well.He also happened to be someone who changed my perception about Mankading.I remember watching an U19 game in which WI beat Zim by mankading a Zim player.Watching that I was really enraged and thought that to be garbage but after watching the post match show(in which Pommie was almost in tears) my perception about Mankading changed. He actually explained it so well that even Pommie had to give in.

Other than Bish I really like the whole Sky team(Holding,Nas,Athers,Bumble). They add so much to the viewing.I find their insights to be compelling and wanting to listen to them even more.On the other hand I find Channel 9 commentary to be absolutely embarrassing. They add absolutely nothing to the game and keep on blabbering about every other Aussie cricket player.
