Who should be the next white-ball captain for India?

for ODI ..shreyas iyer..he is a good white ball captain good player of spin excellent batting record in ODI
He doesn't have any game for pace.next wc is in south Africa. India doesn't need one more situation like unfit rohit captian of test team and bringing entire team down.

south africa odi and t20 pitches are not very fast they are mostly dry.. shreyas ahs a problem against short pitch ball but that problem is more in test..in odi bounders are not that big a concern for any batter

When India toured sa in 2023 iyer struggled a lot even in the only odi he played.he was not able to take run against burger and resorted to slogging. He will never trust his defence on tough pitches since he does not have it.even in first class matches he follows same mantra . any team can't have a captain who is having a glaring problem and that guy will bring the entire team down.

They should make Sky the next odi captain.. he's already the t20 captain and his captaincy so far has been impressive. Attacking trying different things. Ind only plays dew odis these days. In 2024 they only played 3 ! Its just a dying format outside of the WC and CT. So just make Sky the captain for those fee odis a year. Ensures continuity and the aggresive nature of the captaincy

Sky does not even deserve a spot in the ODI team, how can he be made captain?

Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar, while speaking on a local media outlet:

“Clearly, he [Shubman Gill] is the guy who is going to shoulder the responsibility of the Indian team going forward in years to come. His foundations are really, really strong and add to that the confidence of nearly two-and-a-half years of performing in one-day cricket. In one-day cricket, he’s been phenomenal."

"Now look, the straight drive, the on-drive are the shots wherein you cannot actually hit the ball really hard. But here, he was hitting the ball so hard that despite the mid-off and the mid-on fielder being on that 30-yard circle, the ball was going and hitting them. That’s the kind of timing he possesses,”

India has reached a stage in cricket where coaches, captains, or any other authority figure is almost irrelevant. The role of selectors is also now less important because players select themselves & there are no real bad choices. This is an ideal state for a sporting nation to be in honestly.

Look at their T20I team, Sky captains it but they can also make anyone in the eleven captain & the results will be similar. Their ODI team is also solid & can play in any condition as they have solid bench. The decisions their selectors make are marginal, Rana over Siraj, Rohit continuing, Abhishek & Tilak like dashers only playing T20 etc. are all decisions that can go either way & results would be sort of similar. Jaiswal would be the first name in Pak team if he was Pakistani but in India he is a fringe player which just shows how good the last decade has been for them.

You need strong personalities to start a process but once it is set in motion the gears just continue to move without much external force. They can even do this thing where they appoint a different captain in every match & they'll still have at least 60% win rate against good teams.

Kudos to their system for this, so much for us to learn from.

he seems to have improved in 2025..also short ball isnt a big threat in odi crciket anymore..there is less competition for middle order spot and he is a good captain..no brainer to make him a captain now

It's a pleasant surprise that he worked on his weakness and came out so good.i think bcci made up its mind on Gill and he will be choosen for long term /marketing prospect.

Yeah , Iyer has been mighty impressive and his captaincy in IP as well has been aggressive. Gill will be more of a defensive captain as seen in some match he has captained. But yeah, knowing Ind selectors - they are already grooming Gill to take over ODI captaincy. SKY though is firmly set as T20 captain for the next few years

Jaiswal is not treated well, anycountry would have accommodated him for washed out Rohit and Kohli
Rohit Kohli Jadeja are hogging important places in the side
This is pure injustice to him
