Who should open for Pakistan in ODIs?

What about Shoaib Malik? He's opened before and averages 53 at the #2 position (albeit a small sample size, and he averages 29 at the #1 position). He could open with Sharjeel if he gets cleared, and it would open up a slot in the middle order for someone like Zaman or Salahuddin or maybe even Fawad Alam

You must be kidding. Malik can't play pace. Even when the ball is older, his feet are stuck in the crease while he scores his favorite boundaries through the empty slip cordon. He can't score those when the slip fielders are in for the first few overs.

With Sharjeel gone they need a guy who can fill that void and it should be Shahzaib who gets a chance in ODIs and T20s. The other opener should be Umar Akmal. He is good against pace so him being up the order is better than him being in the middle order.

they are going to WI and it is a good time to test youngsters in that position but now with Sharjeel gone.. azhar will retain his position and there will be fight for the 2nd opener only is what i guess..

2nd opener spot is open and the players in contention will be in the below pecking order..
