Who should pay the expenditures of the Umar Akmal fiasco?

So Umar Akmal was wrongly deemed fit and was selected by the selection committee for CT. He went to UK where he failed the fitness test and was sent back to Pakistan.

1 or more people screwed up in this whole matter and cost PCB money (travel + living expenses of Umar Akmal). With PCB in red they should get this money back. So who should pay it?

I would dock the player himself. He was clearly told that the reason he was being dropped from the previous tour was because of fitness reasons and he still had the nerve to turn up unfit for the next international tournament he gets picked for. Have to hit his pockets hard to really drive home the message

need to investigate first did he really passed the fitness test or the report was dodged...

many things are possible..

Passing fitness test to get selected and then going back to the nihari and karahis
Or inzi and NCA being lenient on his fitness test to select him somehow on a quota..

It is the player himself first for being unfit and the selectors +NCA possibly added if proven to have dodged the report...

both cases didnt knew that a fitness test will be conducted by the team management in england...

I've been critical of MA but I must commend him for this spectacular action of not taking Inzi's shoddy selections sitting down and returning an unfit player back to Pakistan.

No one - these are operating system loss, for a corporate.

Ideally, the people behind selecting him (passing him as fit), should be shamed, by being asked a written explanation. For the fairness of the process, it has to be cross-checked that Luden's fitness test wasn't harsh or vindictive to get Umar out as well.

Having said that, I am sure, Inzi & the doctor didn't keep records of his fitness test - they wanted him to be in the team; that test was just a cover-up. Inzamam should be charged for incompetence & nepotism, not for the expenses.

At the Champions Trophy there will be journalists there on PCB paid holidays - flights, hotel stays, travel etc etc all paid for by PCB.

I don't understand why his fitness could not have been borderline when it was done at nca. If the guy then celebrates his selction with a week of Biryanis niharis n parathay and seesee his fitness has dropped a tad. Ie now below borderline

If Umar Akmal ate a jalebi every time he was called talented, he'd be...actually I think that's exactly what he does.

Haven't posted on this forum in quite some time. What a sad decline this man has gone through. I remember watching him in 2009 vs. NZ and Australia and thinking we finally have a batsman that is international quality and can compete with the best of them. The downslide that has happened is just astonishing. I have been in and out of following cricket over the past couple years and my dad just told me we have slipped to #9 in the ODI rankings. Absolutely surreal the path Pakistani cricket has taken in the last several years. Kudos to the test team of course, but our limited over capability is arguably at an all time low or what? Is the lack of a professional domestic system finally catching up with us or is this just a dry talent phase we are going through. Pardon the ignorance, but when we are relying on Shoaib Malik for runs outside of the SC I know something has gone very wrong.

Based on the reports Inzi and the other selectors watched over the tests while the NCA trainers supervised it. Inzi in the press conference said that UA was tested 2-3 weeks ago which he had cleared. The onus was on UA to maintain that fitness throughout and not just one day get fit for the test and then let himself go. There must be a strong reason why Arthur and company deliberately held final fitness tests in England just before the tournament, he must have seen the collusion that goes on between the players and the NCA trainers and is now driving home the message that this will no longer be tolerated. He has already driven the message to Sohail Khan, Mohd Irfan and now Umar Akmal.

Inzi says UA's test was taken 3 weeks ago under the supervision of the NCA trainers and the selectors which he cleared. The onus was on UA to now maintain that fitness if not improve it, if UA decided to let himself go during this period then Inzi cannot be blamed, these are professional players who shouldn't really need baby sitters.

I remember your excitement when he scored that century against Sri Lanka in 2009 and those sixes he hit against Malinga who was in his prime as a death bowler. I remember your words "He is the real deal".

It is sad to see such an astonishing decline 8 years later and it is all because of bad life style choices, choice and circle of friends and acquaintances off the field. Just looking at this guy, you can just tell that he does not have the work ethic which is necessary to jump up from a gifted player to the best in the business. He doesn't even make an effort to keep himself fit and i doubt he does the necessary work on his batting either.
