Voted for Fawad Alam and Iftikhar Ahmed.
Fawad Alam is a no brainer.
Want to vote for Haris Sohail but he is injury prone and just came back from injury so he should spend at least 1 year in domestic FC first before being consider for selection.
Pakistan need a batting all rounder at #7 and Iftikhar Ahmed fits the bill. Dont want to select Mohammad Hafeez.

Agree with your analysis, what I love is you're not a fan-boy and are objective in your assessment; I love Haris as much as the next guy but you need to earn your way into the team and Usman/Fawad have paid their dues, plus would not be wise to throw an inactive cricketer at the deep end immediately. The less said about Umar the better, I love him to but sadly don not see him ever changing his ways; one of the toughest things in life is having a capacity for self reflection, it just doesn't come naturally to Umar.

we need a 5th bowling option in the next test that we play. and if there is no pace bowling all-rounder ready by that time, sadly it has to go to hafeez. he is a useful spinner and can help the attack immensely especially in uae.
sami has to open - do not even know why he was dropped. sharjeel was a better prospect than sami but sami is miles ahead of people who played as the second opener in west indies. shehzad and shan add nothing to the test team so they make way for hafeez and sami.
azhar returns to number three. babar at four. the five spot is open - i would select one of haris, salah ud din, and fawad. id give more priority to haris and fawad because they left handed.
shafiq gets one more series but only because we have invested so much in him. he plays at six. sarfraz at seven.
the bowlers are two of amir, wahab, hassan, and abbas. wahab because uae still needs one pace bowler who can get people out without the pitch. give him two test a series.
yasir selects himself. shadab is not ready and probably not even going to be ready for the next four years. usama and asghar will be my other two spinners.

azhar. babar. haris. fawad. usman. shafiq. sarfraz
amir. hassan. wahab. abbas.
yasir. asghar. usama.
that would be my 16 for the next tour. i do not need a third opener because we have azhar who is a capable enough opener. actually the best in the world rn but still.

These are excellent points. Yes Umar has to go against his basic nature. Don't want to insult him but his mental maturity & IQ EQ is very average or below average. So it would need whole lot reformation.
For Me Haris is superior than Fawad & Saud is superior than Usman wrt natural ability & skillset but Merit has to prevail. Usman & Fawad deserve it more than anyone else.

Seeing Usman Salahuddin technique, especially the fact that he plays with straight bat and has one of the highest averages in FC, he should be the first one given a chance...and he is in the squad as well. Fawad Alam must get a few series to make a case for a permanant position. Harris Sohail only after one year of cricket. Imam and Saud Shakeel as backups.
NO to Umar Akmal unless he loses 10-15 KG first, straighten his act, promises to stop tweeting silly comments/videos, and starts acting his age; after all he is not 19 any more!

Looks stylish & he was part of one of the best U19 teams ever - Shan, Ahmed, Amin, Umar, Usman, Imad, Amir, JK has so far played for PAK, add to that Shahzaib, Md. Rameez, Adnan Raza, & few others I forgot.
However, as their replacement, I'll STRICTLY pick couple of left-handers for sure. With ICC being harsh on off-spinners, most teams these days will go for a leggi or a left arm spinner as back-up, therefore it's foolish & criminal not to pick couple of left handers in middle order. On top of that, No. 6 has to be a batting all-rounder, preferably 2nd (3rd in Asia) spinner. Therefore, the combination of PAK for me should be -
1. Azhar
2. Sami/Butt/Imam/Shan or even Amin - in that order, but it has to be a lefti
3. Babar/Amin
4. Babar/Haris
5. Haris/Fawad/Usman/Asad
6. Aga Salman/Saud - or MoHa
, but a batting all-rounder is must. OR, may be they can use Haris/Fawad for 20 overs7. Sarfraz
8. Amir
9. Yasir
10. Abbas
11. Asghar/Hasan/Wahab/Rahat/Shadab
May be, when PAK tours outside Asia, Haris/Fawad can be used as 5th bowler (2nd spinner) to support Yasir & 3 pacers.

thanks for mentioning me,,i will take it as a great honour for me....for me the potetial replacement are usman salahuddin,,fawad alam..haris sohail and umar amin....the latter three are left handers with ability to bowl few overs....salahuddin and fawad alam desrves it on pure merit but problem starts that both of them are slow and we need a batsman with a bit of intent and ability to acclerete when the ball gets old...hasris and umar amin can do it but haris has not played 4 day games for the last 2 years so it will be premature to give him chance now..umar amin is good choice but i doubt his ability to play long innings...ss atm usman at 6 and fawad at 4 are the best option with umar amin as resrve ..sami and azhar as openers with babar at 3 fwad at 4 shafiq 5 usman 6 and sarfo at 7 and they can move sarfo up the order according to match situation.......imam ul haq should be selected for next tour as resrve opener too with saud shakil and few other may brek into the squad in next 2 years...

I agree with you; Haris Sohail shouldn't just walk into the Test XI like that after barely managing to become fully fit. As you say, he hasn't played a FC game in three years and so, I'd start by recalling him into the ODI side and letting him settle there before he can be moved up to Test level (following good progress in ODIs).
Fully agree that Usman, Fawad, and Sami need to be selected. Initially, I posted in another thread that I'd have Rizwan over Haris in the squad, mainly because he can serve as a backup WK for Sarfraz. However, if such a situation arises, I guess Rizwan can just be called up (like Sarfraz was when Adnan was injured) and if it is an injury right before/during a game (God forbid), Shafiq can take over temporarily. Therefore, I'd put Haris in the squad and on the bench as you say.
Amin & Saud should both start from ODIs and then climb their way up. Agree with your assessmnet on the openers.
However, I wouldn't drop Shadab; we MUST play with 5 bowlers (Amir/Yasir are gonna run into the ground sooner or later) and considering Hafeez's age, Imad's lack of suitability to Test cricket, and the recent developments surrounding Nawaz, one of Shadab/Yamin have to be in the XI in SL, as a #6 batsman and a 5th bowler. That's why I say that Usman Salahuddin and Shadab Khan should replace Younis and Misbah.
Agree with what you have to say about Umar Akmal. As you probably know he's still one of my favourite players but in spite of this, he simply does not deserve selection unless he takes some extremely necessary steps (as you have outlined). Team comes first.

Haris and Salahuddin are definitely the players that will get a chance first but with management having an affection for experience players it would be no surprise if Asif Zakir and Mohammad Hafeez get chances as well. I personally would bring Azhar to No.3, Babar to No.4 and Shafiq to No.5 with Amir Yamin coming in No.7. But from the looks of it Salahuddin and Haris will be given go.

Fawad Alam has to be in the team, it's so disappointing jealousy and favouriting has stopped him from having an international career. He can become the new Misbah in terms of his batting and the other can be between Haris and Usman. 18 months ago it would have been Haris no doubt but due to his fitness and lack of batting since his comeback against quality bowlers it begs the question whether others should be given a chance e.g. Usman and Amin

The moral of the story is always be grateful and appreciate those players in the Pakistan cricket team who take so much pride in their own performances and their team’s performance , as they are rare.
In the last 20 years in particular , how many Pakistani players promised so much but they disappointed for one reason or another - I can remember the excitement when Yasir Hameed, Salman Butt, Ahmad Shezad, Nasir Jamshed, Sharjeel Khan, Sami Aslam, Fakahar Zaman came on the scene and each time we felt maybe , just maybe we might finally have found that opener we were looking for after Saeed Anwar - Sohail retired.
Yet each one of those players have disappointed in their own ways.
Same with middle order batsmen in Umar Akmal, Sohaib Maqsood, again what talent those two had and they too disappointed.
We had a wicket keeper batsman who had fighting qualities as a batsman that reminded you of Miandad in Safraz Ahmad , yet he too disappointed.
As for Pakistani fast bowlers , I’ve only ever been impressed by two who debuted in the last twenty years , one was Mohammed Amir and the Mohammed Asif. Thankfully they didn’t disappoint and went on to take 800 test wickets between them, or at least we wish they did - They were the biggest disappointments in the history of Pakistan cricket , what potential they had and they messed it all up.
Babar Azam you are the man and you really have the game to go to the very top, please don’t disappoint !

That’s true, but even to see one or two Pakistani players reach the very top and be talked about among the worlds best , well it gives us something to cheer about in between all the torture - wouldn’t it be great if Babar continued with his current run scoring spree for a few years and we see Kohli v Babar threads on here - like the old Lara v Tendulkar threads you might remember Saj on the old rivals.net forums many years ago
Incidentally just been watching a football match and seeing a team with great individual players get humiliated - I was almost thinking if the Pakistan cricket team played football, this is how they would play on ‘bad’ days.

Babar will feel like tendulkar did in the 90s and lara did in the late 90s and early 2000s. A star batsmen trying to make a name for himself in test cricket and at the same time having to carry a woeful team with him.
