Heard Wasim Akram mention that a decent amount of the audeince at the MCG in 1992 were Australians supporting Pakistan.

Will Aussies be supporting Pakistan again?

What about Indians? Do you support your arch rivals to beat the team that knocked you out and bring gold to Asia?

Or do you support England to defeat your arch rivals? Historically, there’s enough tension for India with England and Pakistan

What about everyone else?

All this Ind-Pak hate is only limited to online. Except maybe Britian (that too only recently) , I have seen Indian and Pakistani fans get along and support each others teams in many venues as long as it’s not against each other.

Just want a good game of cricket and will enjoy the winner regardless. Pakistan has an exciting bowling attack and England has an explosive batting line up.

However, then there is chacha easily my top 3 current favorite cricketer in the world. I mentioned in the other thread, he has an xfactor about him. So leaning towards Pakistan.
 
A lot of SL, Zim, WI fans would be supporting Pak.

South Africans would be 50 50 I guess.

Afg certainly won't be supporting Pak.
 
In my opinion , country wise support.

Supporting Pakistan : SL, Australia, NZL, WI, SA, Zimb, and our great friends : Dutch

Supporting England: India , BD, Afghanistan
 
In bilaterals, I’ve found myself enjoying Pakistan do well.

But no way in a tournament where India has been booted, can any Indian who lives in India and has an account on PP support Pakistan. It’s just not possible :)

Normally, any team that plays England is my team, despite liking England players as individuals. But these are special circumstances and am hoping on Sunday, the game is worthy of retaining the full match recording to go with last year’s semifinal va Australia :srt

Also, any Indian here pretending to support Pakistan is likely doing it to hide their deep disappointment and curry some favour in the hope that they can lie in the shadows unscathed :))
 
Pakistan without a shadow of doubt. Always support the dark horse who is clawing and hustling every inch of the way.

English fans are more grounded, they will celebrate for a few days and move on.
 
As your arch rival, I will support everyone who plays PAK and was never happier when ZIM beat Pakistan :srini But I can't bring myself to support England lol :91: Gonna stay neutral. :inti

Although I do think England are favourites.

Not too long ago you were busy making fun of Pakistan's opening batsmen, calling them stat padders etc. Now how does it feel to support them in the final against England? Still can't believe you are supporting Pakistan over England. Plastic fan. :inti
 
No real indian cricket fan will support Pakistan in a final. They are our arch rival. Those who are supporting Pakistan now will change their colors after England wins the World Cup. Have seen these things multiple times. :inti

You are not really in a position to give advice to neutrals as you are not neutral yourself. A Pak victory would indeed be your worst nightmare, just imagine they fluke another cup win.
 
Tough one. Well I watch a fair bit of PSL every year, so I do like the current Pakistan cricketers and would prefer them to win over England but damn the rubbing in from rival fans make it so hard. It will be turmoil online for an Indian cricket fan like myself
 
Majority Indians and minority unfortunate Pakistanis won't be supporting Pakistan for sure. Sad but its true. Different agendas- economy, money, bragging, brownie points on a forum etc.

Doesn't matter. Pakistan dressing room isn't take any outside noises and the boys will give it their absolute all for the nation.

pakistan, because i developed my cricket addiction whilst i was a young boy in pakistan.
 
Pakistan for sure. Everything else aside, it’ll mean more to Pakistanis. For England it’ll be a back page curiousity before everybody starts getting distracted by the three lions and the football WC buzz.

Wasn’t there some kind of test proposed by a British politician at some point targeted at Brit Pakistanis? Where apparently it’s supposed to show how loyal you are to Britain based on if you would support England or Pakistan if they were to play cricket?

Either way, yet to meet a British Pakistani who wouldn’t support Pakistan over England. England is an exciting LOI team now, but were MAD boring to watch up until they revamped their whole modern cricket strategy post 2015 WC.

That has to be the greatest limited overs revamp in history.

World has changed a lot from 1992-2022

That is 2 generations have changed, back in 1992

Lord Botham Was still playing cricket & he used rub the Aussies a lot then that Allan Lamb-Bruce Reed carnage in 87 ( kohli-nawaz type )
+ Gatting’s reverse sweep blunder in Eden Gardens 87 and Gatting’s away Ashes win 87 + Border’s away Ashes win 89

That era between Aus-Eng was not friendly at all.
And all those moments were very fresh

Media was limited , there were no franchise leagues.

Aussies in 92 supported Pakistan but it is going to be minor muted support this time ( silent support & even that will be very less)

On top of it Imran was an icon for Aussies back then, which Babar is not.

Sarfaraz nawaz spell of 1979 mcg was still fresh.

More importantly we did not pay back the Aussies at all. In 1996 world cup final
Mark Taylor was expecting support from 60000 people in Gaddafi stadium, yet we supported Sri lankans. I was there in the stadium i know wht i saw.

Australians do not hate English players now as much as they used to hate them in 1992.

So pakistan shall rely on it’s own support.

Aren’t Haris Rauf and Mohammad Hasnain household names in Australia at this point? They probably remind Aussies of Imran Khan with BBL heroics.

Yet another reason to play Hasnain. Home field advantage

V Good names but not household name like
Imran was v iconic due to him being Test player for 21 years + oxford & 1976 sydney test heroics by him and by the time 92 final came
Aussies hatred level for English was very high

Its non existent now

No comparison.

Cricket is very important to them but does not dominate the way it does in the sub continent.

Neutrals don't care if Pakistanis celebrate the win for years. Id want Pakistan to win as a neutral simply because cricket is a bigger deal here, most people in England dont even know theres a cricket world cup going on, for ordinary Pakistanis this win would be celebrated for a while, the national team would be considered heroes.

its one of the reasons that I always root for countries where cricket is a huge deal such as South Asia, id want India or Sri Lankan to win over New Zealand or Australia because it would mean more for people in those poor areas.
 
Walking back from the semi final in our Pakistan shirts....and Aussies were happy that Pakistan was in the final. The Australians are unlikely to support England.
In regard British Pakistani some are choosing to support England due to Moeen and Adil.
 
People who believe in spirituality may support Pakistan, because our entry into the final is nothing short of a miracle. People who support good cricket would and should support England.

I will support Pakistan obviously. Contrary to what people believe, the miracle is not a blessing for us, but a reason to get complacent and lose an opportunity for introspection.

Only against AFG because of how foolish their fans act at times. Refer to them throwing chairs at Pak fans after losing in Asia Cup.

We love Bangladesh though. If BD beat Pak and qualified for Semis, I would be rooting for them to lift the cup.

The match is at the MCG, Haris Rauf's home ground with the Melbourne Stars. They love him in Melbourne.
He has had a hat-trick at the MCG.
 
20% of Indian's will be supporting Pak for sure. I think Rishi Sunak will be supporting England:sharjeel
 
I am one of those who would be happy with whosoever wins. I had backed Pakistan to win the tournament after it lost to India and now that they have reached finals, i have squared of my bet partially and so i am winning regardless of whosoever looses. Though i feel it would be England lifting the trophy.

Muslim or not if any country doesn't support support Pak then I never support them. Many Indian Muslim's do support Pak though for some reason. I have heard that firecrackers go off is some parts of India whenever Pak wins.

Even Crystal Palace footballers on majority are supporting Paksitan, mainly the non white players. So for sure neutral cricketers care andmany support Pakistan.

Neutrals would be anyone but English and Pakistanis. The largest in numbers would be Indians if you wanna call them Neutrals. You do the math who they would favor:asif

It barely registered with most of the population...which is a shame. Cricket isn't a popular sports like football is. Similar to Rugby

It was Norman Tebbit, a politician who served under Maggie Thatcher and looked like Count Dracula.

I can understand where he's coming from to be honest, problem is it has to be two ways. British Pakistanis have to feel they are accepted as British, and at that time they weren't. Even now when so many advances have been made, there are cultural differences which haven't been bridged.

It's an interesting subject but maybe better discussed on TP.
 
Think it's natural to vouch for the underdogs unless they are your bitter rivals. Like it was with WI in 2012 and 2016, SL in 2014

Cricket fans in England are very different and the English football fans are like Pakistan cricket fans!

Good match but didn't become interesting at any stage baring 2 overs from pakistan innings - 12 and 16. Only at the end of those 2 overs it looked Pakistan could get to 155+ and that would have become a tight game.
