Who would be your ICC World Cup 2023 semi-finalists?

Bangladesh will be a huge threat, people may laugh at me now but this is the best Bangladesh line up I've ever seen. They will do well, I can bet on it.

India have had recent slip ups but given our home record, I find it hard to imagine us not even making the top 4, surely India will make it.

I change my mind regarding South Africa. They don't look like a team that will create much impact.

NZ have stormed back into contention now with KW, Boult and Jamieson all back in the Squad.

Precisely. They are a very good side and should be able to beat their chocking demons.
 
My 4 semi-finalists for world cup 2023 would be India, Australia, Pakistan and England. India usually do well at home so they are very likely to be in the Top 4, Australia usually do in ODI world cups and they have a great looking squad, Pakistan have been doing really well in the last few months and with the kind of fast bowling options they have, they should make it to the semi-finals, England also have great depth in their squad and with Ben Stokes back in the ODI cricket, they are a great force to reckon with.
 
Hashim Amla's prediction in an interview:

"I’ll go with India, Pakistan, South Africa and England."
 
  1. India would be at the top because they have the home advantage and are confident, especially after defeating Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup.
  2. England, they have improved and handle spinners well.
  3. It could be either Australia or South Africa. Both have strong teams, and their players' participation in the IPL gives them an edge.
  4. Pakistan might also make it to the top four, as they can give a tough time to any team on a good day.

Remove England and have Sri Lanka there. Then it would be right.


Also, are we writing off s.africa too early? Their squad on paper looks as strong as aus india and England too. Spin is weak however. Batting all the way down to 9 given mahraj can bat a bit.

Bowling options post nortje injury would be ngidi rabada jansen so still looks good.

Coetze for nortje is decent.

NZ like always will surprise critics. NZ's problem in the recent matches has been top order wickets falling too soon, they are usually 3 down in less than 10 overs. But that could change completely if Williamson is back and all of a sudden the middle and lower middle order will comfortably play attacking game.
 
India, Australia, South Africa and England. Pakistan can reach to semi final if Babar and shaheen will perform well.
 
Looks like 3 of them are more or less certain- England, Australia, India. 4th one would be between Pak and SA. It's a long tournament so teams have to be consistent and the pitches will get slower and lower as the event goes on

India, England, Pakistan and South Africa for me. New Zealand the dark horse.
 
Conway is a beast in Indian conditions in the IPL. Very good on different surfaces against different type of bowlers. WIll be surprised if he doesn't have a box office world cup.

Don't write off Australia .they are just testing their bench strength bro .they will come with full force in world cup wait and watch .

Conway and Ruturaj are the tuk tuk guys for CSK. They will do OK in leagues but will get exposed at the international level. Just check Conways recent stats on the Eng tour. Except for one game - he tuk tuked in all games and a vasy majority were single digit scores. And Ruturaj as well - stat padder tuk tuk - he should be nowhere near the international team when there are way better options

Australia is a beast in world events. Team write off Australia at their own peril. The road to any world cup victory runs thru Australia. From 1996 onwards every team had to beat Aus to win the cup excluding their own victories though

Totally agree . Australia is always favourite for world cup as before 2021 WT20 they were lost to many series but in that event they Play extraordinary cricket eventually become champion .they just know how to handle the big tournament pressure.

Same semi-finalists. This time it'll be an India v England final. Just like the last 3 hosts, the host nation will win the WC again.

India will win it like they did when they last hosted the tournament in 2011.

Pakistan won't win it and is the reason why I won't be taking of my annual leave entitlement to watch any of the group stage games because all we've got is a clique holding each others' nuts, who are led by Captain Milestone.

For 4th spot, most neutrals are picking Pakistan, some are picking New Zealand and Saffers are picking South Africa.

One thing no one is talking about is the age factor in team India. It is an old team, a lot of players have been around for long and except for Gill and Siraj... And may be Iyer/Ishan...there are no fresh faces in the side.

Reminds me a little bit of the 2003 Pakistan's WC squad... Very strong on paper but several players had past their peak. Could this haunt India? We will have to see.

First 2 are favorites. And inspite of having a week middle order and non existence of spin Pakistan will manage to reach semis. And at last it may be new zealand as usual as in every world cup they takes a place of a more deserving team. About england my gut feeling says they won't be able to perform this time the way all are expecting.

5 oldies in the squad - Rohit, Kohli, Ash, Jadeja and Shami. The likes of KL actually haven't played all that much and is till not old enough to have any age-related decline.
 
Kane back and strong performances in warm ups has given me some confidence for a SF spot.
 
India, England and Australia are definitely reaching semis.
One of Pakistan or Newzealand will join them.
South Africa and Bangladesh are real dark horses, and they can challenge Pakistan and RSA for that one remaining semifinal spot.
SriLanka can cause some major upsets on these helpful tracks.
Don't think Afghanistan has a realistic chance for semis.
Netherlands won't win a single game.
 
With this bowling line-up England is not going to reach in semi.

New Zealand are guaranteed to make the semi-finals. This was a hard game to play first up but after they win this, they have the easiest schedule of all the teams.

Netherlands, Afghanistan, Bangladesh in a row which they should all win barring something incredible. Then they play Australia in Dharamsala and on form, their players are far more suited for those sort of conditions than the Australians, although it might be close.

You can lock in the Kiwis for one semi-final spot. The India vs Australia game is huge now.

Funny how everyone now thinks NZ will be one of the 4 semi finalists. Earlier some experts told me NZ aren't good enough to be in last 4.

It's an old story. NZ keep getting underestimated, and they keep proving everyone wrong. They didn't make the last 2 WC finals for nothing.

“So is the case with Australia, I feel they have a balanced team.

“The third one I would say would be England. England again are a very strong team, a combination of experience and some new faces.

“My fourth team would be New Zealand. They have played the finals in 2015 and 2019. If you look at their track record, New Zealand in world championships have always done well and I see them getting to the semis.”

These are not bad picks. India, Australia, and England are almost certain. 4th team can be any team between Pakistan, New Zealand and South Africa.
 
Pakistan is making a strong case for their spot in the semifinals.

India are almost certain to reach the semifinals and as a Pakistani I hope Pakistan can make it to the last 4 as well. In an ideal world for you, what can happen that Pakistan and India don't play each other in the semifinal and India get knocked out by may be Australia, England or perhaps South Africa.

Having said that I am sticking with the following 4 since last two weeks :-

1. New Zealand
2. Pakistan
3. Southern Afrikaan
4. Bharat

A game of cricket doesn’t change our fortunes as people or doesn’t eventually make a huge difference to our nations economy or status.

I know it’s easier said than practicing.

I still feel it will be India, England, Australia and NZ. Pak and SA may miss out. Aus has had a bad start but they have the team to bounce back just like how England did. Even if Aus lose to SA tomorrow, I will still give them a chance to make it to the top 4. Teams can go to semi by sweeping lower ranked teams and winning three matches against top teams. Aus can sweep against, NED, BD SL and AFG and will surely beat two of Pak, SA, Eng and NZ. Six wins will get them to semis..

England and Australia struggling, NZ and S Africa looking good, as of course are India.

With this surprising win of the Netherlands over South Africa. The race to the semifinals has got more interesting as we now have 2 teams level on 4 points and 5 teams level on 2 points. Only India and New Zealand are unbeaten teams now with 3 wins each and they are sitting at the top of the table with 6 points.
