Since there is not much cricket with WTC finals and PSL being done, why not take up this debate.

So we all know India is a better test team than Pakistan in most conditions. However former always struggles in England against Dukes ball with overcast swing conditions as we witnessed on the WTC Finals. On the contrary, Pakistan has got a decent record and mostly does well there.

Assuming both the team plays a 3 match test series in England now...who would win?

Pakistan would win in English conditions anywhere else India are heavily favourites

Pakistan is used to 6 out of top 7 batsmen failing to score 50 in a test innings and still somehow getting a meaningful score out of the innings.. and it happens on a regular basis.

The problem with India is when this happens , it’s like a ‘shock’ to the system and appears to lower their team morale from I’ve observed.

This may be a reason why India struggles in places like Eng and NZ, where the conditions and opposition bowling does not as often allow multiple batsmen to score big and pile up 200 run partnerships.

Next WTC Finals is also in Eng. Considering Pak has an easier route this time, if they win the games they are expected to win...they can reach the finals. India will definitely be there in finals again due to our home dominance.

So if not a series, we may see an Ind-Pak
WTC final test in 2023 in England.

Damn why? :(

It would be a fascinating and hard-fought series.

Bowlers probably on top, with the outcome probably being decided on which side's batsmen can put up some decent totals.

Pakistan has performed better than India in England and I also think if they reach the final they will have no shame in playing a test against Ireland in Ireland just before the final to acclimatise. On the other hand you can expect Indian team to play 3-4 months of IPL and reach England with half of the players with tired bodies. I will give an edge to Pakistan in England. :inti

This would be a no contest. India winning with one innings. Pakistan currently does not stand a chance against India. Forget A team they can’t even beat there E team. India’s batters, bowlers, fielder are far superior.

Pakistan vs India final at Lord's next WTC is a decent possibility. It'll be fun seeing tbe Indian fans sad once again after their team bottles yet another final to Pakistan :P

I'd agree with this, it's as much a psychological problem as a technical one with India when batting in conditions amenable to swing bowling. They are not used to scrapping when the ball starts moving about. Furthermore, there's an arrogance towards batting which serves them well in Asia and Australia, but tends to prove their downfall in England. Sometimes one simply has to bow down to conditions and ignore one's mental conditioning. Easier said than done obviously.

Easy win for India. Becoz the two teams dont play each other players from Pak do not get attuned to pressure of Indo Pak encounters. And when they meet on the biggest of stages like WC they are overwhelmed. CT was an aberration helped by the momentum that Pak had gained during that tournament.
Pak players lack fight. Less talented teams would have defeated India many times in WC but pak havent managed to win 1 due to lack of determination and fight.
Indian players are obviously better at handling pressure.

India quite easily. Better bowlers & better batting line up than Pakistan.

Pakistan in England anyday. Test or ODI. T20s by their nature could be 50-50.

Will be a close and hard fought series and probably India might beat Pakistan 2-1 owing to superior fielding and more options as players. Pakistan will outscore on bowling though

We beat a very strong Aussie side in a test match at Leeds with Salman Butt captaining for the first time and a rookie middle order so I would fully expect us to beat India in England.

Up to 2018 I would have had us favourites to beat them in the UAE too.
We had YK and Misbah who were absolutely destructive against spinners.
Alas that was never to be but still reckon we have enough to beat India even at home

No. Just no.

I know. India would win anywhere in the subcontinent. They just have too many match winners and incredible depth when it comes to playing in the subcontinent.

Sorry but I don't see it.
I don't believe in this Indian hype.

India May win but it's not written

On paper, India are favorites.

But, you can never write off Pakistan. They are always dangerous in England.

India's record in the subcontinent is not "hype". It is the strongest ever home record any team has ever had in test cricket history. India were bound to struggle in english conditions anyway and many Indian fans including me warned about it happening. If anything, I expected a massive first innings collapse but they did well to get nearly 220 runs in very testing conditions against a strong swing bowling attack, and saved their collapse for the second innings!

The same match up elsewhere outside of England and NZ would have had different results. India would steamroll every team in the subcontinent. In England however, it would be different scenario as Indian batsmen, particularly this current generation, has generally struggled in swinging and seaming conditions.

Look I don't blame you for falling for the hype.

India's home record was built on doctored bunson burners played against extremely mediocre players of spin bowling.

Nothing I can say will change your mind so let's just agree to disagree

I'm not basing it just on India's home record but also based on how Pakistan have fared in the past few years in Asia where they have been rolled by Herath a few times and even by NZ once. And yeah, these defeats happened with Misbah and Younis in the team, which is why I believe India would be firm favourites against Pakistan anywhere in Asia with or without Misbah and Younis.

The loss against the Kiwis did not have YK or Misbah in the side.
It was within a month or so of us beating the Aussies two nil.

Those were abberations.

This is the bottom line... you can predict this and that but the beauty of sport is that unless the two teams actually play against each other it's just speculation. Especially when it comes to two countries like India and Pakistan playing against each other.

Who can forget this? Young Amir and prime Asif absolutely unplayable. Such short lived happiness :(

Are people forgetting how toothless our pace bowling was on the most recent tour of England? Shaheen and co all flopped in NZ too so it was no coincidence.

As bad as India are in these conditions we are barely capable of troubling them enough to win a session let alone a series.

That was definitely not an aberration. The Kiwis have had the wood over Pakistan in the last decade. 2011 was the last time that Pakistan beat New Zealand in a series, but ever since then, NZ have had a W/L ratio of 3.5 over Pakistan home and away, and have won the last 4 consecutive test series on a trot.

I got confused between the 2014 and 2018 series, apologies. Misbah and Younis didn't play the 2018 series when Ajaz Patel and Will Somerville rolled Pakistan to win the test series in the UAE.

Misbah and Younis played the 2014 series which was a drawn affair when Mark Craig rolled Pakistan in one of the tests in the UAE, and yeah that side had Misbah and YK in it.

Pakistan generally does tend to have the most optimistic fan base in international cricket and it is of course their right to feel optimistic about their chances of beating India in the subcontinent. But then again, equally so, Indian fans have the right to feel Ashwin and Jadeja are slightly better spinners than Ajaz Patel, Will Somerville and Mark Craig.

I am afraid - Pakistan would not stand a chance.

In 5 test series India will win 5-0 against us in 4 days. There will be 2-3 innings defeat. Our team will not score single 250 in those 10 innings. Imran and Abid will get 6 ducks. Apart from Hasan Ali and Shaheen all our bowlers will be hammerd.

India will whitewash Pakistan in any conditions. They are miles ahead in terms of talent, skill and mentality.

You can fluke the odd win in LOIs but not in Test cricket.

Strangely pakistan have always performed decently against England at their home even though they are no good against swing and seam. Against india also they will permorm better if they have done well againt the home team.

India will demolish Pakistan in any country. All experienced Indian bowles are better than every Pakistani bowler in tests (Bumrah, Ashwin, Jadeja, Shami, Sharma). As for batting, India has a solid openers and middle order. India's top order (3-5) are out of form but still averaging 45-50.

India's B team itself is formidable with batsmen like Agarwal, Gill and Sundar sitting out. Then you have Siraj, Umesh Yadav and Azar Patel...
