Who would you pick between Imad Wasim and Faheem Ashraf against Sri Lanka in current ODI series?

I think Pakistan team management is not doing right thing by picking imad in playing 11 The reason is simple their are 6 leftie handed batsmen in current SL batting lineup which means imad bowling is useless (as we all know he struggle against left hand batsmen) .We should pick fahim our imad who can bowl medium pace and very handy batsmen who can hit big shots in last 10 overs.Hafeez is doing wonderful job as a fifth bowler he should bowl 10 overs and if he is or any other bowler is expensive fahim can be used as a backup

I wonder when this poor lad will get chance .fahim should play in current series he needs proper chance to develop

I think Imad is someone who is an important member of our ODI team but we need to fast track the development of Fahim, these series could be the opportunity to do so; him warming the bench does not benefit us in the long run

saeed5646 I don't think they will play Fahim unfortunately unless there are some dead rubbers or an injury

Imad is a very good and important player but I'd play Faheem Ashraf in the next match since he needs to be tested out and we need to see if he's actually the explosive batsman that he's made out to be.

Of course, this is considering if Imad isn't made to open. I am of the opinion that Imad should be experimented as an opener for this ODI series that we will win anyway. Before you target my suggestion, I've presented the reasons in this thread: http://www.pakpassion.net/ppforum/showthread.php?265760-Imad-Wasim-as-LOI-opener.

Most fans are dying to see Fahim Ashraf have a run in the ODI side. He has bags of potential and is the type of player Pakistan have been calling for. It is frustrating to think that you finally have a potentially great lower order hitter at number 6-7 but he cant make it to the side for whatever reason.

I would honestly consider Shahzad to be dropped and Sarfaraz to open with Fakhar. Fahim to be slotted in at 6

Definitely pick Faheem Ashraf, a mentally strong pinch hitter is the need for Pakistan team and Pakistan fans who enjoy hits around the park. But doubt he is selected soon. Imad Wasim will phase out from the team in long-term, his bowling has been found out. He darts the bowl in and if an opponents analyst has worked out his line and don't play for non-existent spin, they will battered him all around the park. Imad lower down batting is also not impressive. Both are bowling all rounders, so they need to do well in bowling where imad lacks big time.

Faheem ashraf looks to be a reliable hitter who can score 30 off 12 regularly. Imad is hit or miss with the bat. So i would go for Faheem.

Ashraf's bowling is very poor. He bowls too short and often too wide.

He really needs to improve his bowling to be considered a replacement for Imad.

Imad has done enough to be a permanent member of the LOs team.

I am imad fan too but seeing his bowling yesteraday against left hand batsmen(which sl have 6 in top 7) he was totally toothless so won.t be bad idea to test fahim inplace of him in current series

This series should be used to try our bench strength

What are we going to learn by playing the usual first x1 playerz?

they don't need to decide between the two. they can play both.

SIMPLE solution: drop shehzad and hafeez and push everyone else up the order

fakhar zaman
sahibzada farhan
babar azam
shoaib malik
sarfraz ahmed
imad wasim
fahim ashraf
shadab khan
hasan ali
ramman raees
junaid khan

but of course why would we drop seniors who have not performed for 10 years when we can keep them in the team and keep debating which youngster to sacrifice.

I think it should be common knowledge that Imad will play every game, Faheem will come in only for Shadab when we play on a pitch that doesn't really support spinners.

But, yes, if we win this series early, then I wouldn't mind giving opportunities to the youngsters (Haris, Faheem, Usman) in the dead rubbers.

We really need to blood him in... but dont expect anything sensible from PCB... ideally Shehzad should go out and get Hafeez to open, bring Faheem in and lower middle order looks much better, plus u got another bowler, he isnt a dud in fielding... but alas.... shehzad will play all the odis.... maybe not the last one...

mind you, Harris also needs to get in... its tough... he never faultered when he was playing... only went out due to injury...

If Imad is to bowl 1 overs on such wicket, then better to drop him. Fahim shouldn't come for Imad - 35 pacers in UAE is wastage. Ideally, JK/Raees/Shinwary should be rotated for last 3 matches (& Hasan rested for last 2 matches) and Fahim should play every match. Hari comes for Imad.

why there is a stress on faheem? we have major problems at the top of the order. Why not bring in Imam and Haris in place of shezzy and Imad. This 'll give Imam a couple of games and we can see what he has to offer at the top

Do you rate Fahim?

Do you rate Fahim?

Not seen much, but he is the type of player I would like to see in UK WC. Good, hard hitting left handed batsman at 7/8, and can be useful as 4th seemer. Don't know who'll be best by then, but I'll take one of Yamin, Hammad, Fahim or this new guy Bilawal Iqbal for No. 7/8. Imad has very little to offer with ball & at alarming rate he is proving that his 40/100 batting stats is a fluke.

Fahim won't be of much as bowler in these conditions. However could play a big role as a late order hitter at 6. Could drop Shehzad and bring someone up the order to open with Fakhar.

Imad won't be dropped as he is one of Mickey's favourites.

So is Shaun, they both are playing because of their English skills...

Fahim, will get one chance this series, let’s hope with bat he makes enough impact to displace Immad, otherwise he has to wait for PSL3 to prove his all round credentials, that is only way to get into the team. New guys are not going to get any chances...

In my opinion Imad can be replaced with Haris Sohail, he will provide you extra batting strength along with he can bowl 3,4 overs too.

We've waited a long time for someone to actually have a good average and a decent strike rate at 7. And finally we have that in Imad, 36 and SR 99 is very good. At times yes he doesn't look like a proper batsman, but he consistently makes runs lower down and bolsters our total.

Imad's bowling in ODIs is OK, not terrible. On some days he looks innocuous. An average of 36 with the ball at an economy of 4.6. He's generally good at keeping runs down though, you don't expect him to go for much. Arguably his bowling may be worse as a result for so many options in ODIs he doesn't get to fit in his quota most games. In ODIs his main job is with the bat. In T20s, 7 is quite low so he often won't get much time to bat, his main job is with the ball.

Fahim could be better, but with the ball while alright, did look like he'd be hit more than imad. And while we don't necessarily have a standout spinner (Shadab is still very new), we have four pacers that most will agree are better than fahim with the ball.

Fahim with the bat could do well, but it's a bit debatable. He only averages 15 and 10 in list A and T20s respectively. Perhaps he should be given a chance to show he can do well with the bat in domestic limited overs first.

You can take a risk with Fahim, but I don't see it likely he'd outperform Imad, especially with the ball. And Imad definitely is an asset at the moment. It seems a bit strange to base it around one knock which many are doing, that too a in a warm up against a weak Bangladesh bowling attack.

Very good post. For the sake of the team, I'd be more than delighted if Fahim outperforms Imad in both facets of the game but as of now, the fact remains that Imad is a very good batsman and a very hard to pick bowler, especially when conditions suit him and for non-Asian sides.

Imad's batting strike rate is misleading. He is not a natural striker of the ball. He is not a reliable hitter..

Imad can't strike at over a 100 most of the time. We need someone who's capable of scoring at 140-150 consistently.
