Both are great batsmen and both have a different attitude toward playing cricket. When it comes to our future generation whom do you want them follow Virat Kohli or Scahin Tendulkar.

Neither.

Make their own legacy. Sticking to past has limited us for too long.

There always something to learn from the past. Everyone needs some inspirational figure to start with. I agree one should make their own legacy afterwards.

Virat. Everything you can learn from Sachin you can learn from Virat plus how to carry yourself as a player on and off the field. Confident and willing to give it back to anyone who gives it to you. Sachin was too timid and was dishonest at one point too.

Have to agree with you. How he cry for tax issue of his ferrari and his 100th 100 which cost us match , I want someone who play for team and lead by example.

Tendulkar has no legacy outside his achievements as an individual. He was a not a leader, so there's nothing to follow except batting technique.

Tendulkar being the biggest legend in Indian cricket has no legacy?? :))

You need not be a good leader only to leave behind a legacy. Tendulkar has left behind a legacy in batting which is followed by millions in India. His legacy was the reason we got Sehwag then and Prithvi Shaw now. And it will continue to produce batsmen in future.

Can't believe you even bother replying :))

It's gavasker who started batting culture and set a legacy . He is more confident and fearless. He is not as legend as Sachin bcz sachin is star during digital revolution and got more recognition.

Virat can never , even in his wildest dreams , able to match the popularity and the impact Sachin had on Indian cricket fans.

I believe it's Gavaskar who set batting legacy in India rather than Sachin.

Sunny was the first real great batsman we produced. Someone who is till this day revered and adored by the cricket fraternity. But it's Sachin who was the cream of the nation for more than 20 odd years, the one who influenced more young cricketers than anyone else. Anyone who grew up during Sachin's era will know that no cricketer in the past held such an emotional bond with Indian people like Sachin did, not even a quarter of it.

Agreed but most of it's share goes to the digital reveolution in India. At the time of gavasker hardly anyone have TV set but when sachin is at it's peak most Indian can see him Live in TV and that's make them believe he is the greatest batsmen in India . If gavasker is playing during 1990s era he would be a rockstart bcz of his fearless batting and his bold attitude.

True. Gavaskar was the reason we got Tendulkar. And now most young Mumbai school kids want to bat like Tendulkar. Sachin (indirectly) has become batsman producing machine just by legacy.

Kohli will also leave behind a legacy...especially in North India (Delhi Punjab side). Infact, Shubhman Gill already copies Kohli's batting. But there is a downside of following Kohli too. Lets be honest, Kohli's batting is not copy book like Sachin and its more about mental strength, dedication, hardwork at gym etc. These things cant be copied but need to come from inside.Youngsters who try to emulate Kohli, try to copy his magnanamous personality more than batting. Kohli is a once in a generation batsman, so he can manage his personality without affecting his batting. But younsters falls into the trap of copying his looks, dressing style etc and forget about his batting. Prime example being Unmukt Chaand whom we all thought would be next Kohli.

So I would advise youngsters, follow Sachin's batting as it can be cloned. There cant be another Kohli.

Are we discussing their persona or records?

Sachin was also an aggressive ODI batsman during the 90s, a format that Indians loved the most. I doubt that Gavaskar even in an era of widespread television coverage would have got anywhere closer to Sachins popularity or fame among Indian fans. You don't gain a massive fan following by scoring 37 runs in 180 balls.

Not really, but he would have been extremely respected. And that's simply because of the way he played his game, much like Rahul Dravid. The reason Sachin achieved such status back in the 90's is because of the way he used to devour attacks at will. Technical accumulators are respected for sure by Indian fans, but they don't attain the status of Sachin. Dravid being a prime example. Sunny has always been a big time hero for me, always will.

I like your opnion but not completely agree. I believe future generation should copy virat batting style and his attitude bcz he always play and deliever under pressure, which sadly lack in sachin.

I want new India who can handle pressure very well and deliever at the most crucial time. Sachin 100th 100 inn disapointed me as to achieve his personal achievement he cost us match.

I want player who play for country rather than for their personal achievement like kohli , dravid and sehwag.

You are right that many only copy virat looks, dressing style etc rather than his attitude and batting style.

Which World Cup knock out match has virat won for India? Not saying that he is not a match winner but dispute the fact that he always performs when needed. Don't go too far away from the India Australia WC Semi 2015

I guess he play more important inng in 2011 WC final then sachin that we won. We are 2 down with 32 and he is playing his 1st WC final. That partnership between gambhir and Kohli (32) is one of the most important part of that match.

Also 2013 CT final he is only one who took India to a respected score and thanks to our bowler they defend it.

2015 and 2017 he fail but he did deliver in two other final which I mention. I don't remember any sachin inng in WC final that we won.

What's your opinion about 100th 100 sachin inng.

Everything which includes their attitude, persona, records and their approach towards the game and how they inspire others.

We we have enough threads about records etc so lets look at other aspects

I hope Virat doesn't lose us a match against Pakistan in the world cup, like the CT and Asia Cup final. That will harm his legacy more than anything.

For 20 years Tendulkar ensured we won high profile games against Pakistan.

Who was Virat’s inspiration? That will answer your question.

Sachin was the undisputed king for those who were young/growing up in 80s to 2000s. He was setting new benchmarks for that generation in India - confidence, consistency and to be the world’s best without losing his core aspirational class values - humility, respect for others, impeccable public behaviour and fiercely private life.

Virat is representing the value system our youth today love and aspire for - aggression, fiercely competitive, outgoing, living his live in public eye and of course peak fitness.

That was a natural social evolution. 10-15 years from now someone else will be there in Kohli’s place showing the way to the youth of that time. I sincerely hope that someone is a multiple Gold medal winning Olympian and not a cricketer.

People follow who they want to follow. Who are we to conclude here who is worth following and who is not. It’s funny how important some people think they are over here.

True, If India can produce inspirational figure like half of Michael Phelps, that will be a great achievement to India.

Kapil Dev's instead. No one in India has come remotely close to him even after 25 years.

Nobody rates Sachin as high elsewhere in the world, except within IND, 1 billion people.

I mean, of course his technique was excellent. But when comparing with Kohli, he's just not there.

Like someone said, you get everything in Kohli that SRT had, plus a lot more goodies as well that SRT never could have or did have!

Dominance, clutch Gene, taking attack to the opposition in pressure situations, not caring about personal milestones, confidence.

Personality is something different where he's ahead again.

Sachin dominated WCs, Kohli has done nothing in world events and was humiliated on one of the biggest stages - Final against Pakistan.

Never seen a top player collapse like it before in the field then with the bat - he was out twice in two balls, looked like like a deer in headlights :amir2

The man lost you a CT Final, it wasn't just that they lost, he was in amazing form then got completely owned by Amir.

Made to look like a fool and dismissed twice in the span of two balls.

Then there was his performance as captain, allowing Pakistan to score as many as they did in a Final is inexcusable.

I dont think coaches give kids red pill (Sachin) or blue pill (Virat) to choose legacies.

Its more probable that kids will follow players (Kohli) they can see on Tv rather than documentaries (Sachin)

Always better to create a legacy instead of wanting to be someone else. If Virat scores more runs then Sachin then he should be the one to overtake. The ultimate aim of any newcomer should always be being the highest run scorer for his country. Should create his own image in the media and field of play. Whoever is the highest scorer at the time Sachin or when Virat is finished should be the man to beat for future batsmen. One thing they can do is study the techniques and stroke play of these two great batsmen and try to implement it in to their game.

Nothing can beat sachin's dismissal in wc 2003,the biggest disappointment an jndian fan ever had, ct final is not even close.

Tendulkar has only created a legacy of scoring runs. Virat, in addition to a batting legacy, will also create a fitness and match-winning legacy.

Sachin will always be the benchmark as far as I am concerned. He played in a different era when fitness did not seem to be that important. He did not feel the need to have a six pack in order to be a great batsman. Unless Virat scores more runs then Sachin the latter will always be the man to beat.

It's not only about batting. It's also about helping to create a winning culture in the team. This is where Kohli is miles ahead of Sachin .

Sachin has won plenty of matches for India on his own. Sachin is still much better then Virat Kohli as a batsman.

Winning matches based on individual brilliance is different to creating a winning culture in the team. Sachin may have won more matches for his team than Steve Waugh for example, but the latter was better at creating a winning culture.

Kohli’s inning yesterday was a batting master class. This is exactly how one must play against top-class bowing. This inning should be recorded in coaching manual for future aspiring batsmen.

:)) Are you sure? Or are you now going to prepare your conspiracy theories in advance to counter what I'll be up with?

Kohli is a bloody Dynamite, will probably end up among the top 5 best batsman ever.

Sachin had a better technique and more talent but Kohli is something else. It's his bloody minded attitude that should be an example for everybody who wants to play international cricket. Be the best you can by working the hardest and always play for the team. Also, it doesn't hurt to flaunt the riches, be flamboyant and show some swag.

I know what you're going to quote. Won't change that perception.

Today, Kohli is admired by everyone, every country. Sachin never that going for him and some of his antics or weaknesses were always criticized.

He wasn't what Kohli is, at another level. He too was a great. But we're comparing with Kohli here!

Sachin was both. Created a winning mentality and was a class apart batsman. Tell me how great Kohli is when he has overtaken Sachin's record.

Dhoni created that mentality, just Kohli fans are trying to pass it off as his. Dhoni's team won a WC and CT, Kohli's lost a CT to Pakistan in the Final in humiliating fashion.

Are you going to stick to it?

Tendulkar is history now and nobody has the time to sit back and watch yesteryear matches of Tendulkar's. The next generation will follow Kohli.

Kohli will surpass all Tendulkar's records. He is batting royalty, but on a personal note I just wish we had the same caliber of bowling in Kohli's era as to what it was in Tendulkar's.

Tendulkar mastered this bowling era:

Donald
Pollock
Wasim
Waqar
Shoaib
Walsh
Ambrose
McGrath
Warne
Muralitharan
Saqlain

I have no doubt that Kohli would have done well against these bowlers as well, but it's such a shame that we're seeing Kohli bat against bowlers who will probably never be able to match that bowling era. Even Steyn's peak was more against Tendulkar than Kohli.

We really need bowling superstars in this era, otherwise the game will drift further towards the batsmen.

IMO SRT never dominated the series in the manner Kohli has done. He scored a hundred and couple of 50s by the time series was done. Sure he didn't go missing averaging 10 runs per series either but he didn't impact the end-result as often as Virat did.

Future Generations will follow Kohli because he is more recent for one. Also he has set a perfect example with his fitness levels, rotating the strike and scoring at a high strike rate mostly through grounded shots.

Little kids are growing up watching Kohli like we grew up watching Sachin. It is natural for them to follow Kohli's legacy.

Kohli would be never able earn the respect of the opposition like SRT did.
Not after this series where he has behaved like a pre pubescent juvenile.

After Virat retires, I have no doubt in my mind that he will most likely take over Sachin skill/run wise. If a generation needs to follow a cricket athelete it's Virat. Sachin was a phenomenal batsmen but had a body of an typical uncle. Compare that to Virat, attitude of a tiger (though sometimes needs to calm down) and body of a true athlete.

What?

If anything, he's one guy who is actually respected all over the world, unlike SRT, who still had critics about his not so impactful batting, poor leadership, etc.

To give you an idea, people in PAK would go to lengths to defend and admire VK. It's not easy to win our confidence in that way, especially since many of us feel kind of jealous if a top bat comes up in IND.

In the start, when people weren't sure of just how good VK is, some would still criticize him.

Now he has universal acclamation everywhere.

Of course, everyone knows he plays with emotions. So him being on top of opposition is actually admired. He would not have been admired if he was timid like SRT.

Kholi is a good batsman but his aggression isn't something you would associate to a person with a class. Guy screams and swears at every opportunity and have seemed classless many times. While Sachin was the other extreme end, too calm and composed for the future generation. Find the middle ground....be humble and have rational aggression.
