It was really beyond my thinking.

Amin was their best bat among Pak players in Quetta squad. Yet, Sarfraz benched him for the WHOLE PSL.

Who did he give a chance to instead? Shafiq, Anwar Ali, and Shehzad.

Will he also try and block Umar Amin's selection in the national side?

as a supporter of Sarfraz i will stay that was the most damning decision of the PSL. Amin isnt bradman but its obvious he is better than Asad and i voiced that at the time as well

I like Sarfi but was a poor choice. Sick of seeing Shafiq anywhere near T20s or ODIs.

The first day pitch at Dubai and the initial pitches at Sharjah were good surfaces. Amin could've really set the stage on fire from Pak batsmen' side.

Shocker of a decision to not play him even in the finals. :)))

Well if Umar was up to standard Safraz wouldn't have been able to keep him out. Maybe some injustice was done but it's hardly threadworthy given it's no loss to Pakistan cricket.

Its a very good question, he should've been tried atleast once in 10 games... its the PSL afterall..

But then me thinks why didn't Fawad Alam get one game for Karachi Kings in the first edition of PSL, when he was the only player who actually was from Karachi... while Malik was captaining the side, and led the team to an atrocious position in the table... with the whole middle order not performing besides Ravi Bopara..

Dr. Nauman once mentioned after the PSL that Amin was one of the informants of the spot-fixing scandal and instead of commending or facilitating him the PCB management barred QG from playing him. Similar to Shahzaib Hasan who didn't feature after the first match iirc.

I would however take everything that Dr. Nauman says with a truck of salt.

Fawad Alam doesn't really belong in LOIs. But then, he has a clone in Malik who was captaining the side. :srini :malik

Lol. That's a hilarious story. Irfan was even investigated, yet he played.

Sarfraz just kept him out for Saad Nasim/Shafiq/Anwar/Shehzad.

is this based on the inning today?

no. everyone was angry during PSL as well when Umar amin was sitting out for a certified LOI failure Shafiq. Amin is much much better LOI player than Shafiq.

It was a shocking decision from Sarfraz and the rest of the team management - something that he should have been questioned about in interviews.

thats factually wrong. although not much of a comparison

Rawalpindi is > 1000 miles from Karachi.
If Misbah. Could not live without Hafeez, Rahat and co, Sarfaraz Is doing the same for his Karachi buddies.

Not giving a single game to Amin in PSL is really regrettable.

I don't think Sarfraz had complete command on who plays & whom not in PSL. As Captain, he had some stake, but there was Moin as well. Amin picked wrong team (not his fault, in draft system one hardly can chose team, unless he is a "Star"), and landed into 2nd team of Karachi, coming from North PAK, with few of Captain's buddy in that squad & the Coach also from Karachi. Besides, I am not sure how smart & qualified Moin is to realize the value of a 6'1" left hander, who can time it well, loft it long, hit it in gaps & through off side - against new ball. It's quite easy to pick Asad over Amin for those who manages cricket by memos & phone calls.

There's something peculiar about Umar Amin and his name popping up among the bookie circles isn't much of a surprise.

On that ill-fated 2010 England tour, he was seen spending a lot of time with Mazhar Majeed and Salman Butt. In fact, I think Salman Butt was instrumental in bringing him into that team ahead of more deserving players. It's also not a good sign that he is currently playing for a team that also has Salman Butt and the Akmals.

Umar Amin needs to find himself better company because he has spent a lot of time around shady people. He is a talented cricketer but like Nasir Jamshed, he has never seemed entirely focused on just cricket.

That may be a reason for keeping him out of the team and Sarfraz may have just protected Amin from himself.

That being said, Sarfraz is a man with strong convictions. He kept Luke Wright out of the team as well quite a bit this season. This can be a good thing. People with strong convictions have generally proven to be better cricket captains (Imran Khan, Dhoni, Ganguly etc) and that's another reason why I have no qualms about Amin being kept out of the team. It is Umar Amin, after all, not Virat Kohli. The strong convictions can also backfire terribly if Sarfraz doesn't learn quickly as well.
